In the drama club's rehearsal room, the setting sun cast mottled shadows on the floor through the blinds. The air was filled with a faint scent of oil paint and the freshness of wood.
Li Xunwan took a deep breath, trying to calm her nervous emotions, her fingertips repeatedly brushing over the handmade bracelet on her wrist. Today, they were rehearsing the highlight of the school drama festival—the balcony scene from "Romeo and Juliet."
"Are you ready?" Zheng Kaiwen's gentle voice sounded beside her.
Li Xunwan looked up and was met by his deep gaze, her heart racing suddenly.
"Um..." she replied softly, her voice barely above a whisper.
After several rehearsals, Li Xunwan always found herself flubbing her lines due to nerves. Whether it was stiff movements or missing the perfect moment, she struggled. Zheng Kaiwen patiently demonstrated again and again, correcting her posture with his hands. His fingertips lightly brushed against her waist, and his warm breath tickled her ear, sending shivers down her spine.
"Relax, follow my rhythm," Zheng Kaiwen whispered in her ear, his voice laced with a hint of seduction.
Li Xunwan felt her cheeks grow warmer and her heartbeat quicken. She could feel his strong chest pressed against her back, his solid arms encircling her waist. It felt as if she were about to suffocate.
As the official performance began, the spotlight illuminated the stage, and every seat in the audience was filled. Li Xunwan tried hard to immerse herself in her role but couldn’t shake off her inner tension. When Zheng Kaiwen walked toward her with heartfelt intensity, her mind went blank.
His gaze burned like fire, as if he wanted to melt her away. When his lips gently touched hers, time seemed to stop. The originally intended fleeting kiss transformed into something passionate and lingering in that moment. Zheng Kaiwen's kiss held a hint of aggression yet was tender enough to be irresistible. Li Xunwan's mind went blank as she passively surrendered to this sudden kiss.
His lips were soft and warm, carrying a hint of minty fragrance. She felt his tongue gently pry open her lips, exploring her mouth. A shiver ran through her body, her breath quickened, and her blood surged in a way that made her feel lightheaded. This kiss was deeper and more passionate than she had imagined.
As the kiss ended, Li Xunwan suddenly snapped back to reality, hurriedly pushing Zheng Kaiwen away and fleeing the stage as if escaping. She covered her burning cheeks, her heart racing as if it might leap from her chest.
Backstage, Liu Sitian watched Li Xunwan's flustered demeanor, a sly smile curling at the corners of her mouth. "Oh, what's wrong with our Xun Wan? You're as red as a tomato!" Liu Sitian teased, her eyes sparkling with mischief.
Li Xunwan was too embarrassed to look up, stammering and unable to find her words. Her body seemed to have a mind of its own, behaving oddly. Seeing this, Liu Sitian laughed even harder.
"Stop pretending; I saw everything. That kiss with Zheng Kaiwen didn’t look like acting at all," she continued to tease the innocent girl, unrestrained as if it were just the two of them in the theater troupe.
In a dark corner, Xie Qinghuan observed everything unfold. She clenched her fists tightly, her nails digging into her flesh. A strange aura enveloped the space. It wasn’t jealousy but an odd scent that lingered in the air. This scent was hard to define. Well then, let’s just call it a strange smell.
