The lighting in the backstage dressing room was dim, casting a soft glow on Li Xunwan's flushed face, adding to her shyness.
Her hands moved with a hint of panic, her fingers trembling as she tried to straighten her costume, causing the collar to become slightly wrinkled.
"Xun Wan, are you okay?" Zheng Kaiwen's voice came from behind her, laced with a barely noticeable concern.
Li Xunwan turned around abruptly, meeting Zheng Kaiwen's gaze before hurriedly looking away.
"I'm... I'm fine," she stammered, her heart racing as if it might leap out of her throat.
Zheng Kaiwen stepped closer and handed her a cup of water. "Here, have some water."
Li Xunwan took the cup, her fingertips accidentally brushing against his, sending a jolt of electricity coursing through her body and making her even more flustered.
She lowered her head, sipping the water in small gulps, too shy to look at him.
Liu Sitian appeared at the doorway, arms crossed and a teasing smile on her lips as she watched the two. "Oh, our Romeo and Juliet! The play is over, but why are you still so caught up in it?"
Li Xunwan's face turned even redder; she wished she could find a crack in the ground to hide in.
"Sitian, stop teasing me," she murmured, her voice barely above a whisper.
Liu Sitian walked over and draped an arm around her shoulders. "Oh come on, don’t be shy. That kiss earlier really stirred my heart!"
Li Xunwan's heart raced even faster as she stole a glance at Zheng Kaiwen, who was also looking at her with a hint of gentle amusement in his eyes.
"Actually... I..." Li Xunwan wanted to explain something but didn't know how to articulate it.
"You enjoy it too, don't you?" Liu Sitian interrupted her with a teasing tone.
Li Xunwan's face turned crimson, and she bit her lip, remaining silent.
"Xun Wan, you don't need to feel embarrassed," Zheng Kaiwen said as he stepped closer, gazing at her tenderly. "I also... feel quite different."
His words made Li Xunwan's heart skip a beat. She looked up and met his deep gaze, as if she were being drawn in.
"Really?" she asked softly, her voice laced with anticipation.
Zheng Kaiwen nodded, a gentle smile curving his lips.
Liu Sitian watched the two with a knowing smile. "It seems our Romeo and Juliet are about to embark on a love story offstage as well."
Her words made both Li Xunwan and Zheng Kaiwen feel a bit shy, yet deep inside, they were filled with sweet joy.
In the following days, there seemed to be an unspoken understanding between Li Xunwan and Zheng Kaiwen. Their rehearsals flowed more smoothly, and their glances exchanged were filled with tenderness.
Li Xunwan found herself increasingly attentive to Zheng Kaiwen; every look and smile from him sent her heart racing.
She recalled Liu Sitian's words; perhaps she had truly fallen in love with Zheng Kaiwen.
This thought filled her with both excitement and fear.
The excitement came from finally discovering her own love; the fear stemmed from not knowing if Zheng Kaiwen felt the same way about her.
Li Xunwan decided to test Zheng Kaiwen's feelings.
One evening, after rehearsal, Li Xunwan intentionally lingered behind, waiting until everyone else had left before approaching Zheng Kaiwen.
"Kevin, I have something to tell you," she said, mustering her courage, her voice trembling slightly.
Zheng Kaiwen stopped in his tracks and turned to look at her. "What is it?"
Li Xunwan took a deep breath, striving to remain calm. "I like you."
Her voice was soft, yet it clearly reached Zheng Kaiwen's ears.
Zheng Kaiwen was taken aback, his eyes filled with surprise.
Li Xunwan's heart raced in her throat as she anxiously watched Zheng Kaiwen, waiting for his response.
