We hurried into the secret passage, the sounds of shouting and clashing swords echoing behind us. In the dimly lit corridor, only a faint flicker of fire illuminated our path. I supported Xie Wuyuan, feeling his body tremble. His injuries had not yet healed, and each step he took felt like dancing on the edge of a blade.
"Be careful!" I suddenly shouted, pulling Xie Wuyuan back. A dark arrow whizzed past his sleeve, embedding itself in the wall. Xie Wuyuan looked at me, his eyes filled with confusion.
"I can foresee the future," I explained softly. No sooner had I spoken than the ground ahead suddenly collapsed, revealing sharp stone spikes. I was prepared; I pulled Xie Wuyuan against the wall, avoiding this deadly trap.
Xie Wuyuan stared at me in surprise, a complex light flashing in his eyes. "How many secrets do you have?" he asked in a low voice.
I smiled wryly and shook my head. "More than you can imagine."
We continued forward, navigating through the treacherous passage filled with traps. Some floors flipped unexpectedly, while walls closed in suddenly. Each time danger approached, I could foresee it in advance, guiding Xie Wuyuan safely through. Gradually, he began to trust my judgment completely, no longer questioning my decisions.
During our escape, we found more opportunities to talk. Xie Wuyuan told me he had joined the Righteous Path to search for his long-lost sister. I shared the pain brought by my cursed abilities. We confided in each other, and the distance between our hearts unknowingly shrank.
Suddenly, hurried footsteps echoed behind us. The Righteous Path's pursuers were closing in! We found ourselves trapped at a crossroads, unsure of which way to go.
"You go first!" I urged Xie Wuyuan, giving him a push. "I'll hold them off."
Xie Wuyuan hesitated for a moment but nodded after seeing the determination in my eyes. He turned and ran down the right passage while I faced the left one, ready to confront our pursuers.
The pursuers quickly appeared before me, led by an elderly man with white hair wielding a Qingfeng Sword. I recognized him as the renowned "Sword Saint" of the Righteous Path.
"Young girl, surrender," the Sword Saint said calmly. "You can't escape."
I let out a cold laugh, my hands forming seals. Waves of dark energy surged from my body, coalescing in the air into sharp Black Blades. The Sword Saint's expression changed, clearly not expecting such formidable power from me.
The battle was about to erupt. My Black Blades rained down upon the Sword Saint, while his sword light hung like a galaxy in reverse. We engaged in fierce combat within the narrow passage, each strike aimed to kill.
At that moment, my precognitive ability suddenly activated. I saw Xie Wuyuan facing an even stronger enemy, alone and struggling to withstand the assault. A tightness gripped my heart; I knew I had to end this fight quickly to save him.
Gritting my teeth, I resolved to use forbidden techniques. My eyes turned pitch black, and the air around me seemed to freeze. The Sword Saint's movements slowed, and I seized the opportunity to strike him squarely in the chest.
He was sent flying back, crashing into the wall. Without pausing, I turned and ran towards Xie Wuyuan.
When I arrived, the scene before me nearly stopped my heart. Xie Wuyuan was covered in blood, barely holding himself up against the onslaught of three Upright Masters.
Without hesitation, I charged forward, positioning myself in front of Xie Wuyuan. "If you want to kill him, you’ll have to get through me first!" I shouted angrily.
The leader among the Upright Masters was a middle-aged man who looked at me coldly. "Witch, do you really think you can protect him?"
Before he finished speaking, his longsword lunged at me. I foresaw the future and knew that this strike would pierce Xie Wuyuan's heart directly. Without a moment's thought, I threw myself in front of him to block the fatal blow.
Pain surged through me as I felt my life ebbing away. I turned to look at Xie Wuyuan; his eyes were filled with shock and anguish.
"Why?" he asked tremulously.
I managed a faint smile. "Because... you are worth it."
Xie Wuyuan let out a furious roar, unleashing an astonishing power. With one arm holding me and the other wielding his sword, he carved a bloody path through our enemies. We finally escaped the secret passage and found ourselves in a hidden cave on the back mountain of Yin Ming Hall.
Xie Wuyuan carefully set me down, trembling as he reached out to check my injuries. I weakly grasped his hand and whispered, "Don't worry, I'm fine."
His eyes were filled with guilt and pain. "It's all my fault," he choked out. "If it weren't for saving me..."
I interrupted him, "This was my choice. Xie Wuyuan, you need to remember that your life is more valuable than you think."
He held my hand tightly, tears glistening in his eyes. In that moment, something between us seemed to change forever.
I closed my eyes, feeling the ebb of life. But I knew this was not the end; it was a new beginning. For in the visions of the future, I saw us standing side by side, facing even greater challenges together.
This was just the beginning.
