Liu Rumeng stood in Gu Han's study, tightly gripping a stack of yellowed letter papers, her eyes filled with disbelief. She had only intended to help Gu Han tidy up the room, but inadvertently discovered these letters hidden in a concealed drawer.
The papers were filled with Gu Han's hasty handwriting, each line revealing deep regret and self-reproach. Liu Rumeng trembled as she read the shocking contents word by word.
"I hurt her... I hurt the one who loved me most... I'm a bastard..."
Countless images flashed through Liu Rumeng's mind, the details she had once overlooked now crystal clear. Gu Han's indifference towards her, his suppression of her career, even those vague threats... everything suddenly made sense.
She felt a wave of dizziness wash over her and had to steady herself against the desk. She had never imagined that she had been deceived by Gu Han's facade all along. The man who had been so gentle and considerate in front of her had committed such cruel acts against those closest to him.
Her heart was filled with guilt and self-blame. She recalled my warnings and the seemingly insurmountable chasm between us. It turned out that everything stemmed from Gu Han.
Taking a deep breath, she resolved to come clean to me. She could no longer endure this world woven from lies.
I was busy in my studio when I suddenly received a call from Liu Rumeng. Her voice sounded unusually urgent, even tinged with tears.
"Sister, can we meet? I have something very important to tell you."
I was somewhat surprised but agreed. Half an hour later, we met at a quiet café.
Liu Rumeng's face was pale, her eyes red-rimmed, clearly having cried. As soon as she saw me, she couldn't help but throw herself into my arms, sobbing uncontrollably.
"Sister, I'm sorry... I'm so sorry... I never knew..."
I gently patted her back, filled with confusion. Once she calmed down a bit, we sat together as she recounted everything she had discovered that day.
Listening to Liu Rumeng's account, I felt a wave of disorientation. Memories I had buried deep within me surged forth like a tide, bringing back past pain and despair.
"So... is this why you have never been able to forgive me?" Liu Rumeng asked through her tears.
I paused for a moment before gently shaking my head. "No, Rumeng. I don't blame you. You are also a victim."
We sat in silence, the air thick with a bittersweet tension. Years of misunderstanding and estrangement finally began to dissolve in that moment. I reached out and took my sister's hand in mine.
"From now on, let's not allow anyone to hurt our feelings again," I said softly.
Liu Rumeng nodded vigorously, tears streaming down her face once more. "Sister, I've decided to break up with Gu Han. I no longer want to be with someone like him."
I didn't try to dissuade her; I simply gave her a warm hug. I knew this decision was difficult for her, but it was also the first step toward a new life.
Just then, my phone rang. It was Lu Jingshen calling. His voice was laced with barely concealed excitement.
"Darling, guess what? Your design has made it to the International Design Award shortlist!"
I was momentarily stunned, then I exclaimed in joy. Liu Rumeng also felt happy for me, a long-lost smile appearing on her face.
After hanging up the phone, I looked at Liu Rumeng and suddenly realized something. "Rumeng, this time, I didn't use any Golden Finger."
A flicker of surprise crossed Liu Rumeng's eyes before she broke into a reassuring smile. "Sister, you finally started believing in yourself."
From that day on, I began to focus more on improving my own abilities. I no longer relied on Golden Finger; instead, I continuously broke through in my career through my own talent and hard work.
Months later, I stood on the awards stage, holding the heavy trophy in my hands, filled with pride. Below the stage, Lu Jingshen looked at me with admiration in his eyes, his face beaming with happiness.
After the award ceremony, Lu Jingshen threw a grand celebration party for me. Amidst the clinking of glasses, our gazes kept meeting, and we shared an unspoken understanding.
As the party was coming to an end, Lu Jingshen suddenly took my hand and led me to the center of the stage. He knelt on one knee and pulled out a delicate ring box from his pocket.
"Darling, will you marry me?"
I gasped in surprise and covered my mouth with my hand as tears welled up in my eyes. The guests around us held their breath, waiting for my answer.
"I do!" I said excitedly.
The crowd erupted into enthusiastic applause and cheers. Lu Jingshen joyfully lifted me into his arms and spun me around before kissing me deeply on the lips.
At that moment, I caught a glimpse of Gu Han standing in the corner. His face was etched with regret and pain, and his eyes were filled with a complex mix of emotions.
I chose to ignore him and focused all my attention on the person I loved most. I knew that the shadows of the past had dissipated, and the road ahead would be filled with sunshine.
Liu Rumeng walked up to me and gave me a warm hug. "Sister, I wish you all the best," she said sincerely.
I smiled back, my heart brimming with gratitude. The misunderstandings of the past had vanished, and we had finally rekindled the closeness of our sisterhood.
After the party, Lu Jingshen and I walked home hand in hand. The night sky was dotted with stars, as if blessing our happiness.
"Do you know?" Lu Jingshen suddenly said, "From the first time I saw you, I knew you were the person I wanted to cherish for the rest of my life."
I leaned against his shoulder and softly replied, "Me too. Thank you for always being by my side and giving me the courage to pursue my dreams."
Lu Jingshen lowered his head and kissed the top of my hair, gently saying, "Our future is still long ahead; I will always be with you, watching you shine your brightest."
We exchanged smiles, our fingers intertwined. I knew that no matter what challenges lay ahead, as long as we were together, nothing could bring us down.
In the distance, Gu Han's lonely figure gradually faded into the night. He finally understood that he had missed not only me but also true love and a beautiful life.
But for me, that no longer mattered. My life had turned a new page, filled with hope and happiness. I knew that the best days were still waiting for me ahead.
