The call of Gu Heng pulled me out of the chaos.
I saw the emotions swirling in his eyes and felt his heated breath so close to me.
I realized that we were about to cross a forbidden line.
A sense of desolation surged in my heart like a tidal wave, and tears fell silently.
He didn’t love me; he only saw me as a shadow of Xie Yu.
" Wan'er, what's wrong?" Gu Heng noticed my unusual behavior, a flicker of panic crossing his eyes.
"I... I regret it," I choked out, struggling to form the words. "Let's... end this."
Gu Heng was taken aback, the light in his eyes dimming bit by bit.
"Why?" His voice trembled with disbelief. "Don't you like me?"
I do like you, but this affection is too heavy, too painful, like shackles that bind me tightly.
I couldn't bear it; I would rather have never started.
Suddenly, the door was flung open with a bang.
Xie Yu and Ruan Lang stood at the entrance, their faces filled with shock and anger.
"Gu Heng! What are you doing?" Ruan Lang shouted.
He rushed forward and pulled me away from Gu Heng with such force that I stumbled back a few steps.
Xie Yu also came over, looking at me with concern. " Wan'er, are you okay? Did he do anything to you?"
I looked at the chaotic scene before me, despair wrapping around me like a vine.
I took a deep breath and mustered all my strength to say, "It was me... I was the one who set up Gu Heng."
The room fell silent, everyone staring at me in shock.
"What did you say?" Ruan Lang couldn't believe his ears. "You... you framed Gu Heng?"
I nodded, tears blurring my vision once more.
"It was me. I put drugs in Gu Heng's tea and brought him here."
"Are you out of your mind?" Ruan Lang pointed at me, trembling with rage. "How could you do something like this?"
I closed my eyes, shame and regret clawing at my heart like wild beasts.
"I know I was wrong."
Gu Heng stood up and walked towards me, his gaze filled with complexity and pain.
" Wan'er, why did you do this?"
"I..." I opened my mouth but no sound came out.
I couldn't tell them that I acted out of jealousy, that I wanted to possess you, my love, as humble as dust.
"Gu Heng, stop defending her!" Ruan Lang interrupted angrily. "What is there to explain after she did something like this?"
Xie Yu looked at me with disappointment, his eyes filled with helplessness and concern.
" Wan'er, how could you have become like this?"
I gazed at Gu Heng, a whirlwind of emotions swirling within me.
How I wished he could understand me, forgive me, even just a little bit.
But his gaze grew colder and more unfamiliar, like ice shards piercing my heart.
"I'm very disappointed in you," he finally spoke, his voice icy and devoid of warmth.
He turned and left without a hint of hesitation, his resolute figure resembling an insurmountable chasm.
My heart shattered into pieces.
Xie Yu gently patted my shoulder and sighed.
" Wan'er, you should reflect on yourself."
With that, she too left the room, taking away the last trace of warmth.
I stood alone in the empty room, tears silently streaming down my face like pearls that had come loose from their string.
I had lost Gu Heng, and I had also lost the trust of my loved ones; I had lost everything.
What should I do?
What else can I do?
