Time passed unknowingly, and my relationship with Shen Yi was quietly changing. The initial awkwardness and unfamiliarity had long vanished, replaced by a comfortable and natural way of being together. We began to date like real couples, going to movies and sharing meals.
I remember one time when we went to see a popular romance film. The cinema was dark, and the flickering images on the screen captivated me. I stole a glance at Shen Yi beside me. He was intently focused on the screen, his profile appearing particularly striking in the dim light. For some reason, my heart suddenly raced.
"What's wrong?" Shen Yi seemed to notice my gaze and turned to ask softly.
I hurriedly shook my head, "N-nothing."
He smiled and gently took my hand. At that moment, I felt my cheeks warm up.
As we spent more time together, I gradually discovered many of Shen Yi's endearing quirks. For instance, this seemingly cool and handsome guy actually collected figurines and enjoyed reading shoujo manga.
One day, I accidentally stumbled upon his hidden collection of comics deep within his bookshelf.
"This is... Little Sweetie?" I exclaimed, picking up a pink-covered manga.
Shen Yi's face instantly turned bright red. "Um... I just think the art style is really cute..."
Seeing him flustered made me unable to hold back my laughter. "I never expected the esteemed Young Master Shen to have such a cute side!"
He scratched his head, looking a bit embarrassed. "Please don’t make fun of me."
"I think it's great," I said earnestly. "It shows you have a soft heart and appreciate beautiful things."
At my words, a glimmer of surprise flashed in Shen Yi's eyes, and the corners of his mouth lifted slightly.
Thus, my feelings for Shen Yi subtly transformed. He was no longer just a figure in our pretend couple scenario; he had become someone who made my heart flutter.
Shen Yi became increasingly gentle and considerate towards me. He remembered what I liked to eat and would silently stay by my side when I was feeling down. Once, when I caught a cold, he took a day off without hesitation to take care of me and even made a pot of warm chicken soup.
"How did you know I like chicken soup?" I asked in surprise.
He smiled and said, "You mentioned it last time. I remembered."
The feeling of being cherished warmed my heart.
However, it was an unexpected incident that made me realize I had fallen in love with Shen Yi.
That day, we were out shopping together. As we walked, a runaway bicycle suddenly came rushing towards me. I froze in fear, knowing it was about to hit me. In that critical moment, Shen Yi pulled me behind him, but he was struck hard in the waist by the handlebars.
"Shen Yi!" I exclaimed, quickly supporting him as he stumbled.
He gritted his teeth against the pain and asked with concern, "Are you okay?"
Seeing his pale face made my tears flow instantly. "You fool, why did you do that..."
"As long as you're fine," he said softly, a gentle smile tugging at the corners of his mouth.
At that moment, it felt as if something had struck my heart fiercely.
In the following days, I took care of Shen Yi without leaving his side. I helped him bathe, changed his bandages, cooked for him... and I did it all willingly. Watching him smile because of my care made me suddenly realize that, unknowingly, I had deeply fallen for this boy.
This feeling came unexpectedly yet felt so natural. I began to feel anxious, fearing that this was just my one-sided affection. After all, we had initially been just a pretend couple.
However, fate always loves to surprise people.
On the day of Shen Yi's recovery, we took a walk by the seaside together. The sun was setting, the sea breeze gently caressed us, and the waves softly kissed the shore.
"Lin Wei," Shen Yi suddenly stopped and looked at me seriously, "I have something to tell you."
My heart raced, "What is it?"
He took a deep breath, "Actually... I have liked you for a long time."
I widened my eyes in surprise, unable to believe my ears.
"I've liked you for a long time. It's just that... I never dared to express it. I was afraid you would only see me as a pretend partner and that it would ruin our relationship." Shen Yi's voice trembled slightly, "But this experience of being injured made me realize that some things in life, if not spoken, might never have another chance. So... Lin Wei, I like you. I really like you. Would you be willing to be my real girlfriend?"
I felt my heart racing as if it would leap out of my chest, and joyful tears welled up in my eyes. I threw myself into Shen Yi's arms and nodded vigorously, "I will! I like you too, Shen Yi."
Shen Yi held me tightly and whispered in my ear, "Thank you, Lin Wei. Thank you for accepting the real me."
Just like that, we finally transformed from a pretend couple into a real couple. Looking back on all the moments we've shared during this time, I felt like a princess in a fairy tale, filled with happiness.
The afterglow of the sunset bathed us in warmth as the sea breeze gently blew around us, as if witnessing this hard-earned love. I knew our story was just beginning, and there would be more beautiful moments waiting for us in the future.
