I stood in front of my mother's door, took a deep breath, and nervously knocked.
"Come in," my mother's voice came from inside.
I pushed the door open and saw her sitting at the vanity, organizing her jewelry. She glanced at me through the mirror, her brow slightly furrowed. "What is it? Do you need something?"
I bit my lip and gathered my courage to say, "Mom, there's something I want to confess to you."
My mother set down the necklace she was holding and turned to face me. "What is it? Go ahead."
I took a deep breath and slowly began, "Actually, I was in a relationship with Shen Yi as a Pretend Couple at first..."
Before I could finish, my mother's expression changed dramatically. She suddenly stood up, disbelief and anger evident in her voice. "What did you say?!"
I was startled by her sudden reaction but continued to explain, "Mom, please let me explain..."
"I don't want to hear it!" she interrupted me. "Lin Wei, how could you do this? Do you even realize what you're doing? Deceiving your own mother!"
I hurriedly defended myself, "Mom, I know I was wrong. But now Shen Yi and I truly love each other..."
"Truly love?" My mother scoffed. "You've been fooled! That Shen Yi is just playing with your feelings!"
I was taken aback by her harsh judgment of Shen Yi and felt a surge of urgency. "No, Mom! Shen Yi isn't like that. He treats me well, really..."
But my mother refused to listen, her anger seeming to grow stronger. "Enough! Lin Wei, you have disappointed me greatly. I will not allow you to associate with that fraud any longer. If you insist on being with him, don’t blame me for severing our mother-daughter relationship!"
I was stunned by my mother's words, unsure of what to do. I loved Shen Yi, but I didn't want to lose my mother. Tears welled up in my eyes as I felt an unprecedented despair.
At that moment, a familiar voice came from the doorway. "Auntie, I'm sorry."
I turned in surprise and saw Shen Yi standing at the entrance. When did he arrive? How did he get here?
Shen Yi stepped into the room and bowed deeply. "Auntie, this is all my fault. It was my idea for us to pretend to be a couple; Lin Wei was just dragged into this by me. Please don’t blame her."
My mother glared coldly at Shen Yi. "How dare you show your face here? Get out!"
Shen Yi did not back down; he looked directly into my mother's eyes and sincerely said, "Auntie, I know you are very angry right now and find it hard to believe me. But please give me a chance to prove that my feelings for Lin Wei are genuine. I promise I will treat her well for the rest of my life and never let her down."
I looked at Shen Yi, touched by his words. He always appeared when I needed him most, giving me strength and courage.
My mother's expression softened slightly, but she still coldly replied, "Anyone can say pretty words. You young people have no idea what true love is."
Shen Yi stood firm and said resolutely, "Auntie, I understand that you don’t believe us. But please give us a chance to prove our feelings through our actions."
I quickly chimed in, "Yes, Mom. We will cherish this relationship. Please trust us."
My mother fell silent for a moment before finally sighing. "Alright, I'll give you both a chance. But if I find out that there’s anything wrong between you two, I will not hesitate to be harsh."
I excitedly hugged my mother. "Thank you, Mom! I promise I won't let you down."
Shen Yi also let out a sigh of relief and bowed to my mother again. "Thank you, Auntie. I will take good care of Lin Wei and won't betray your trust."
My mother waved her hand. "Alright, you two can go out now. I need some time alone."
We exited the room and closed the door behind us. I looked at Shen Yi, filled with gratitude. "Thank you, Shen Yi. If it weren't for your timely arrival..."
Shen Yi gently took my hand. "Don't mention it. We are one; your matters are my matters."
I leaned on his shoulder and whispered, "We still have a long way to go."
Shen Yi smiled. "It's alright; we'll walk together. No matter what difficulties lie ahead, we can overcome them."
I nodded, my heart brimming with warmth and hope. Although my mother had not fully accepted us yet, at least we had taken an important step forward. I believed that as long as we joined hands and worked together, we could create a beautiful future that belonged to us.
Looking into Shen Yi's determined eyes, I suddenly felt the courage to face everything. I knew that with him by my side, we would eventually carve out a path of happiness that was uniquely ours.
