I stood in front of the mirror, gazing at myself in a pure white wedding dress, my heart filled with excitement and anticipation. Today was the big day for me and Shen Yi; we were finally about to step into the sacred hall of marriage together.
The makeup artist applied the final touch of lip gloss, and I took a deep breath, trying to calm my nervous heart. A gentle knock came from outside the door; it was my mother coming to get me.
"Wei Wei, are you ready?" Mom pushed the door open, and the moment she saw me, her eyes instantly filled with tears.
I turned to face her and softly asked, "Mom, do I look beautiful?"
Mom stepped forward, took my hand, and choked out, "Beautiful, so beautiful. My daughter has grown up and is getting married."
Seeing my mother so emotional made my own eyes well up with tears. Over the years, she had worried and worked hard for me; now that she finally saw me find someone I could spend my life with, the weight on her heart had finally lifted.
"Mom, don’t cry; you’ll ruin your makeup," I said, holding back my tears as I gently wiped the corners of her eyes.
Mom took a deep breath and forced a smile. "Okay, no crying. Today is your big day; Mom needs to smile."
I linked my arm with hers and slowly walked out of the dressing room. The wedding venue was decorated warmly and romantically, filled with pink roses, and a faint floral fragrance lingered in the air. Friends and family were already seated, and as I appeared, everyone stood up to applaud and offer their blessings.
My gaze swept over the crowd until it landed on Shen Yi at the end of the aisle. Dressed in a sharp suit, his handsome face radiated happiness. Our eyes met, and it felt as if the entire world had quieted down, leaving only the sound of our heartbeats.
As the melody of "Wedding March" played, I began to walk slowly toward Shen Yi. Each step felt like a stride toward our shared future, my heartbeat quickening with the rhythm of the music.
Finally, we stood together. Shen Yi gently took my hand and whispered in my ear, "Lin Wei, you look so beautiful today."
I couldn’t help but smile back at him and replied softly, "You look very handsome too."
The officiant began to host the ceremony as we exchanged rings and made promises for a lifetime. When Shen Yi tenderly said "I do," I felt as if my heart was melting away.
"The groom may kiss the bride."
Amidst the cheers of the crowd, Shen Yi gently lifted my veil and tenderly kissed my lips. In that moment, I felt as if I could hear the sound of happiness blooming.
As the wedding progressed to the speech segment, Shen Yi's parents took the stage. With smiles on their faces, they said, "Lin Wei is the best daughter-in-law we have ever seen—smart, kind, and understanding. We are so happy that Shen Yi has found such a wonderful partner."
Hearing those words warmed my heart. Gaining the approval and affection of my in-laws had always been my wish.
When it was Shen Yi's turn to speak, he gazed at me with deep affection and said, "Lin Wei, meeting you is the greatest fortune of my life. From now on, I will spend my life loving you and protecting you. In both good times and bad, I will be by your side, giving you the warmest embrace."
Tears of joy streamed down my face as my heart overflowed with happiness and sweetness. I knew I had found my soulmate, someone with whom I could share my life.
After the wedding, we began our new life together. To bring some liveliness into our home, we decided to adopt a puppy. I remember in the beginning, Shen Yi was a bit scared and would often avoid the little dog.
"Shen Yi, really? Are you afraid of such a cute little guy?" I couldn't help but tease him with a laugh.
Shen Yi scratched his head awkwardly and replied, "I've been afraid of dogs since I was a child; it's not something I can change overnight."
I encouraged him, saying, "It's okay, take your time. I believe you can overcome this."
With my encouragement, Shen Yi began to try approaching the puppy. At first, he was still a bit nervous, but gradually he learned how to interact with the little dog. Now he can play with it joyfully.
One day, I accidentally discovered Shen Yi reading a shoujo manga. He panicked and tried to hide it, but I laughed and said, "So you like this too? We can read it together."
Shen Yi let out a sigh of relief and shyly said, "I always thought you would find this childish."
I shook my head and replied, "Not at all! Everyone has their own interests. I'm happy to share joy with you."
From that day on, we often watched comics together and shared our feelings with each other. These little moments deepened our bond.
Life inevitably has its ups and downs, and we experienced arguments and misunderstandings. However, every time we calmed down, we would communicate openly, understanding and accommodating each other.
I remember one time when I lost my temper at Shen Yi due to work stress. Afterward, I felt regretful and was about to apologize when Shen Yi spoke first: "I'm sorry, I should have been more considerate of you."
I was taken aback, and tears streamed down my face from the overwhelming emotion. We embraced tightly, expressing our love for one another. In that moment, I became even more certain that our love could withstand the test of time.
Days passed in a simple yet happy manner. Shen Yi and I experienced the bittersweetness of life together, but our love remained steadfast and unwavering.
Every morning when I woke up and saw Shen Yi sleeping beside me, I felt an immense sense of peace. His breathing, his warmth made me feel secure.
I gently caressed his face, filled with gratitude. I was thankful that fate brought such a wonderful person into my life and that life granted us this happiness.
This is the happiness I desire—simple yet beautiful. It doesn't need to be grand or earth-shattering; it only requires an understanding and loving person by my side in ordinary days.
I know the road ahead is long, and we will face many challenges. But I believe that as long as we stand together with a united heart, there is no difficulty we cannot overcome.
I look forward to growing old with Shen Yi, anticipating that our love will age like fine wine, becoming richer with time.
This is my happiness—the sweetness in the mundane, the beauty in simplicity.
