Finally, Gu Yan and I officially started dating. Looking back at everything that had happened before, I couldn't help but find it a bit amusing. The once sharp-tongued and indifferent Gu Yan had now become my boyfriend.
On the day I moved into Gu Yan's apartment, I felt anxious. After all, it was my first time living with a guy, especially someone as godlike as Gu Yan. But he seemed completely at ease, as if we had been living together for a long time.
"Put your things over here," he pointed to one side of the wardrobe, "I've cleared out half the space for you."
I was taken aback; I didn't expect him to be so considerate. "Thank you," I said softly, feeling warmth in my heart.
Living together turned out to be even better than I had imagined. Every morning, I could smell delicious aromas coming from the kitchen. Gu Yan always woke up earlier than I did to prepare breakfast for me. Sometimes it was fragrant fried eggs, other times fluffy pancakes, and each time it surprised me.
"When did you learn to cook?" I couldn't help but ask one day.
Gu Yan raised an eyebrow. "What? Do you think I only know how to be sarcastic?"
I stuck out my tongue. "I thought you only ordered takeout."
He chuckled lightly. "To avoid letting some little fool starve, I've put in quite a bit of effort."
Even though he still teased me with his words, I could feel the tenderness behind them. This side of Gu Yan made me more and more enchanted.
On weekends, we would snuggle on the couch watching movies. Sometimes it was a thriller that scared me into his arms; other times it was a heartwarming romance that left me teary-eyed. Whenever I cried uncontrollably, Gu Yan would silently hand me tissues and gently pat my head.
"Silly girl, it's just a movie," he would always say, but his eyes were filled with affection.
I also began to learn how to be a good girlfriend. In the past, I loved playing pranks and teasing Gu Yan. Now, I would actively help with chores and try to manage our home. Although I still fumbled sometimes, Gu Yan never complained about me.
Once, I wanted to surprise Gu Yan by trying to cook dinner myself. The result was nearly a kitchen disaster; it almost caught fire and left everything in chaos. Sitting on the floor in despair, I stared blankly at the charred pot.
When Gu Yan came home and saw this scene, he didn't get angry. He crouched down and gently wiped the smudges off my face. "It's okay; we'll clean up together. Next time I'll teach you."
Under Gu Yan's patient guidance, my cooking skills gradually improved. Although I still couldn't compare to him, at least I no longer turned the kitchen into a complete mess.
We would also take walks together, aimlessly wandering around the neighborhood. Sometimes we chatted, sometimes we enjoyed the silence, but it always felt comfortable. Gu Yan's hand would often inadvertently find mine, our fingers intertwined as if it were the most natural thing in the world.
When work got busy, Gu Yan would take the initiative to pick me up after work. No matter how late it was, he would be waiting for me at the company entrance. Every time I saw his figure, my weary heart would be instantly healed.
"Why are you working late again?" he would ask with a furrowed brow.
I would lean against his shoulder playfully and say, "Just trying to meet the project deadline."
He would sigh and drape his coat over my shoulders, saying, "Don't overwork yourself."
In those simple words was a deep concern.
On my birthday, Gu Yan mysteriously took me to a grassy field in the suburbs. As night fell, the stars twinkled above us. Suddenly, brilliant fireworks lit up the sky.
"Happy birthday, Su Qing," Gu Yan whispered in my ear before handing me a delicate box.
When I opened it, I found a beautiful necklace with a small star-shaped pendant.
"From now on, I will be your star," Gu Yan said earnestly.
I was so touched that I couldn't find the words to respond; I could only hold him tightly. In that moment, I felt like the happiest person in the world.
The biggest change in my life came with Tang Dou's arrival. It was an adorable Corgi that we had chosen together.
"Why did you name it Tang Dou?" Gu Yan asked curiously.
I smiled and said, "Because it's sweet and round, like a Tang Dou."
Gu Yan shook his head helplessly, "You..."
Tang Dou brought a lot of joy to our lives. It was always full of energy, running around the house. Sometimes, Gu Yan and I would take it to the park to play. Watching Tang Dou's cheerful antics made us smile as well.
"I wish Tang Dou could talk," I mused one day.
Gu Yan raised an eyebrow, "If it could talk, it would definitely complain about you always stealing its dog food."
I pretended to glare at him in mock anger, "I do not!"
He laughed and ruffled my hair, "Alright, alright, you don't."
And so, our lives were filled with little bits of happiness. Sometimes I thought to myself that I wished these days could last forever.
At night, lying in bed, I often turned to my side to look at Gu Yan, who was fast asleep. His long eyelashes cast a faint shadow in the moonlight. I gently placed a kiss on his face, my heart full of gratitude.
Thank you, Gu Yan. Thank you for helping me meet the best version of myself and for being the best version of yourself. This is the life I want—ordinary yet happy, simple yet beautiful.
Every day with you is the most precious gift in my life.
