My name is Zhao Yue, and I am the class monitor of Class 2-3. To be honest, I’ve earned this title. My lively and cheerful personality is my trademark, and in the eyes of my teachers, I am their reliable little assistant. 0

One day after school, Teacher Wang suddenly called me to her office. I thought she was going to assign some class duties, but instead, she mysteriously said to me, "Zhao Yue, I have a secret mission for you." 0

"A secret mission?" I blinked in confusion. 0

Teacher Wang lowered her voice and said, "It's about Qin Feng." 0

Upon hearing that name, I immediately became interested. Qin Feng is quite the figure at our school—his academic performance is astonishing, and he’s handsome to boot, having captivated countless girls. Unfortunately, this top student has a reclusive personality; he rarely speaks and spends all his time buried in books. 0

"Please tell me more, Teacher," I leaned in closer, afraid of missing any important information. 0

"Here’s the thing: I hope you can help Qin Feng integrate into the group. He’s too withdrawn, and that’s not good for his development. As the class monitor with your outgoing nature, you’re the perfect person for this task." 0

I nearly burst out laughing. Me? Get close to the Cool Academic? Wasn’t that like a sheep walking into a tiger's den? But then again, it could be an interesting challenge. 0

"Don’t worry, Teacher. I’ll do my best," I promised confidently. 0

As I walked out of the office, my mind began to strategize how to approach Qin Feng. This was no easy task; careful planning was essential. 0

Back in the classroom, I stole a few glances at Qin Feng. He still had that distant demeanor, head down as he worked on his assignments, not even sparing a glance at his classmates. 0

"Hey, Zhao Yue, what are you staring at?" my good friend Li Ting nudged me. 0

"Nothing," I quickly averted my gaze. "By the way, do you know what Qin Feng likes to do in his spare time?" 0

Li Ting looked at me suspiciously. "Why do you want to know? You’re not crushing on him, are you?" 0

"Get lost!" I shot her a glare. "I just want our class to be more united; we need to understand each other better." 0

"Sure," Li Ting rolled her eyes. "But Qin Feng is all about studying. I heard he loves going to the library in his free time." 0

That was useful information. I made a mental note of it and planned to find an opportunity to "bump into" Qin Feng at the library. 0

In the following days, I began to observe Qin Feng, both intentionally and unintentionally. I found that he was quite an oddball; he never daydreamed during class, didn’t chat with anyone after class, and whenever he had free time, he would be engrossed in a book. 0

I pondered how to approach him. I couldn’t just walk up and say, “Hey, let’s be friends,” could I? That would be too awkward. I needed to think of a way that felt natural and wouldn’t lead to rejection. 0

Finally, on Friday, I had a lightbulb moment. During the break, I walked over to Qin Feng’s desk and casually asked, “Um… Qin Feng, have you finished the Physics assignment due next Monday?” 0

Qin Feng looked up at me with his deep black eyes, making my heart skip a beat. He replied calmly, “I’ve finished it.” 0

“Oh… um…” I stammered a bit, “I have a question about one of the problems. Could I ask you for help?” 0

He was silent for a few seconds before nodding slightly. “Sure.” 0

Oh my gosh! He actually agreed! I nearly jumped for joy and quickly pulled up a chair to sit next to him. 0

“It’s this problem…” I pointed at a challenging question in my exercise book. In reality, I already knew how to solve it, but to get closer to him, I had to play dumb. 0

Qin Feng examined the problem seriously and began explaining patiently. I deliberately asked a few “dumb questions,” and he answered each one without showing any impatience. 0

“So that’s how it is! Thank you, Qin Feng.” I feigned enlightenment. “You explain really well—better than the teacher!” 0

Qin Feng nodded slightly in acknowledgment. Gaining some courage, I added, “Um… if I have more questions in the future, can I come ask you again?” 0

He glanced at me and softly replied with an “mm-hmm.” 0

Yes! The first step was finally a success. Feeling pleased with myself, I returned to my seat and secretly gave myself a thumbs-up. 0

After school, I purposely waited at the school gate. Sure enough, I saw Qin Feng walking out alone. Taking a deep breath, I approached him as if by coincidence. 0

“Qin Feng, you’re leaving at this time too,” I said with feigned surprise. 0

He glanced at me and nodded as a form of greeting. 0

“Um… my house is in the same direction as yours. Do you want to walk together?” I mustered up my courage to ask. In truth, I had no idea where he lived, but it didn’t matter; getting closer was what mattered most. 0

Qin Feng seemed a bit surprised, hesitating for a moment before saying, "Alright." 0

And so, we walked side by side on the way home from school. I chatted away, pulling at various topics, while Qin Feng mostly listened, occasionally responding with a word. Although the conversation was quite one-sided, I felt it was a good start. 0

"By the way, Qin Feng," I suddenly thought of something as we reached an intersection. "Tomorrow is the weekend. How about we go to the library together to read?" 0

Qin Feng paused for a moment, seemingly taken aback by my suggestion. He hesitated briefly and then nodded gently, "Sure." 0

"That's great!" I almost jumped up in excitement. "So, see you at the library entrance at nine tomorrow morning?" 0

"Okay," he replied and then added, "This is where my home is." 0

"Oh, alright." It was only then that I realized how far we had walked without noticing. "See you tomorrow!" 0

Watching Qin Feng's figure disappear at the entrance of his neighborhood, I let out a long sigh of relief. Today's "chance encounter" plan had finally succeeded. Although the process was a bit winding, the outcome was quite good. 0

On my way home, I began to think about how to proceed with my next plan for tomorrow. The task assigned by the teacher was no easy feat; getting an introverted person to open up is no small challenge. However, I, Zhao Yue, have never been afraid of challenges; I must complete this task! 0

Lying in bed, I reflected on my interaction with Qin Feng today. That seemingly indifferent boy turned out to be unexpectedly gentle. As I thought about this, a strange feeling welled up inside me. 0

Never mind; I shouldn't think too much about it. Tomorrow I need to get up early for the library, so I should get a good night's sleep. With anticipation for tomorrow in my heart, I slowly drifted off to sleep. 0
