I stood at the door of the hospital room, my fingers tightly gripping the doorknob, yet I hesitated to push it open. Jiang Chen lay inside, gravely injured because of me. This realization pierced my heart like a sharp blade.
Taking a deep breath, I finally mustered the courage to open the door.
What greeted me was Jiang Chen's pale face; his eyes were tightly shut, and his breathing was faint. My heart twisted painfully, as if someone had gripped it tightly.
I tiptoed to the bedside and carefully took his hand. That once strong hand now felt so fragile. I couldn't help but whisper, "Jiang Chen, I'm sorry. It's all my fault."
Tears fell uncontrollably, landing on the back of his hand. In that moment, I finally understood my feelings. Unknowingly, I had deeply fallen in love with this man.
I stayed by Jiang Chen's side day and night, taking care of him. Each day, I wiped his body, changed his dressings, and fed him water. Though it was exhausting, I found joy in it. Looking at his face filled me with tenderness.
Finally, on the morning of the third day, Jiang Chen woke up. He weakly opened his eyes, his gaze somewhat dazed. When he saw me, a flicker of surprise flashed in his eyes.
"Tang Shi... why are you here?" His voice was hoarse but sent a shiver through me.
I tightened my grip on his hand and gathered my courage to say, "Jiang Chen, I've been thinking about something these past few days."
He furrowed his brow slightly, seemingly waiting for me to continue.
Taking a deep breath, I looked directly into his eyes and said, "I want to tell you that I've fallen in love with you. Not because of the App's arrangement, but because I truly love you as a person."
As soon as the words left my mouth, I felt my heart race. Jiang Chen's expression became complex; I saw surprise, hesitation, and a hint of an emotion I couldn't quite decipher.
Silence spread in the hospital room, and my heart felt like it was lodged in my throat. Just when I thought I had made a fool of myself, Jiang Chen suddenly spoke up.
"Tang Shi, actually I..." He paused, seemingly weighing his words. "I have fallen in love with you too. Not because of the app, but because you are you."
I looked at him in surprise, tears streaming down my face once again. Jiang Chen struggled to lift his hand and gently wiped away my tears.
"Don't cry," he said softly. "We have finally found true love."
I could no longer contain myself and leaned in to embrace him tightly. Jiang Chen held me back with all his strength, and in that embrace, we confirmed our feelings for each other.
However, the bubble of happiness was quickly burst by reality. We both thought of the app that controlled our fate.
"Jiang Chen, what should we do?" I asked softly. "We can't let the app control us forever."
Jiang Chen pondered for a moment and said, "We need to find a way to break free from its control. It won't be an easy road, but we have to try."
I nodded, resolute. "I heard there is a Resistance Organization; maybe we can join them."
Jiang Chen looked worried. "It's dangerous. Are you sure you want to do this?"
I replied firmly, "For our future, it's worth a try."
And so, I began to secretly reach out to the Resistance Organization. Although Jiang Chen couldn't participate directly due to his injuries, he supported me from behind, providing various help and advice.
However, the good times did not last long. The developers of the App seemed to have caught on to our actions. Our daily lives began to be disrupted, and we even encountered inexplicable "accidents" from time to time.
One night, just as I was about to leave for a secret meeting, I suddenly found that the door to my home was locked tight. I tried various methods to open it, but to no avail, and I had no choice but to cancel my plans.
The next day, Jiang Chen's medical records mysteriously disappeared, preventing him from receiving timely treatment. We realized that these incidents were not coincidences but rather warnings and suppressions from the App.
Faced with increasing pressure and danger, we had to be more cautious than ever. Yet we did not give up; instead, our resolve to resist grew stronger.
"Jiang Chen," I said, holding his hand, "we must change this world. Not just for ourselves, but for everyone controlled by the App."
Jiang Chen nodded firmly. "We will face this together. No matter how many difficulties lie ahead, I will fight by your side."
We exchanged smiles, our eyes filled with determination and hope. Although the road ahead was fraught with peril, I believed that as long as we stood united, we could overcome any obstacle and achieve true freedom and happiness.
Looking out at the sunlight streaming through the window, I silently vowed: no matter the cost, I would join Jiang Chen in breaking free from the App's control and creating a beautiful future that belonged to us.
