“City Bureau here, I can’t trust anyone easily right now.” Ji Tianming pondered for a moment before continuing, “Yesterday, my master called me and said that the Provincial Department also received related reports. Tomorrow, I’ll visit the Provincial Department to discuss things with my master. We need to see if we can form a special task force there to bypass the possibly infiltrated City Bureau and conduct investigations and subsequent arrests directly.”
I nodded. “Yes, I think I can visit the Mind Reshaping clinic again, pretending to agree to their conditions, and see if I can extract any information…”
“No!” Ji Tianming interrupted me sharply. “That’s too dangerous! Li Li, you’re a journalist, not a cop! We’re up against a massive interest group; one misstep could lead to irreversible consequences!”
“Tianming, you have to trust me,” I said firmly. “The fact that they didn’t kill me last time shows that I still have value to them. They can’t get any updates on your investigation from the City Bureau, and they must be feeling anxious. We can use that to our advantage.”
“Tianming, I’m not seeking fame or success; I just want this world to have a bit more fairness.”
Ji Tianming looked at me deeply, remaining silent for a while. Finally, he chuckled softly and shook his head. “I knew you wouldn’t just obediently listen. Come on, let’s sort through the clues we have so far.”
We set up a whiteboard in the small living room and began organizing the information we had gathered. As more details filled the board, a complex web of connections gradually emerged before us.
Suddenly, a sharp pain shot through my head, and I collapsed onto the sofa, clutching my head in agony.
“Li Li, are you okay? Should we go to the hospital?” Ji Tianming asked anxiously.
After catching my breath for a moment, I sat up and shook my head. “I’m fine; it’s probably just a side effect of the implanted chip. I’ll need some time to adjust. Let’s hurry and discuss some details for our next steps; dawn is approaching.”
A ray of morning light streamed through the window onto the floor between us. Despite not having slept all night, I felt no fatigue; instead, my heart was increasingly calm and resolute.
That’s right. I, Li Li, never back down.

I stood once again at the door of the "Mind Reshaping" clinic, taking deep breaths.
After several days of adjustment and experimentation, I could clearly feel my changes. Ji Tianming was right; this psychopathic serial killer persona was indeed a double-edged sword. It not only had an evil, cold-blooded side but also granted me unprecedented calmness, judgment, and keen observation skills—the key lay in how I controlled it.
Sometimes, to defeat a monster, you must first become one.
I pushed open the door and walked into the clinic, my gaze icy as I looked at Miss Fake Smile. I noticed her forced smile had subtly changed; she was clearly surprised by my return visit.
“I want to see your clinic’s director,” I said in a calm but firm tone that left no room for refusal. “Tell him I accept his conditions.”
The fake smile on Miss Fake Smile’s face nearly faltered as she steadied herself and picked up the phone to whisper a few words. After collecting my personal belongings as usual, she led me to the director's office.
It was still that annoying man from before, wearing the same fake smile. I suspected he and Miss Fake Smile had been trained by the same teacher.
“Li Li, I knew you were a smart person.”
I looked directly into his eyes and said expressionlessly, "I can accept your terms, but I want more."
The director raised an eyebrow, "Oh? What do you want?"
"Benefits," I replied calmly. "Not only can I help you gather information on the police's progress, but I can also leverage my identity as a journalist to help you expand your client base. I want to be a part of your team, sharing the benefits."
The director fell silent, staring at me, lost in thought.
At that moment, the sound of a phone ringing came from the inner office.
