"Execution? Are you joking?"
Chun Zhou exclaimed, furious, "I am not a spy at all! How can you be so malicious, woman?"
"What do you want?" Qing Yu pressed her hand against the sword at her waist.
"Hey, hey, hey! Are you threatening me? Why are you targeting me like this? Those two guards were killed by you to frame me, right? Oh! And you wrote that note too, didn't you?"
"Shang Qingzheng, that's enough!" Bai Li Yu's voice cut through the tension, leaving Chun Zhou stunned as if struck by lightning.
"Do you think you can deceive me?" He looked at her with evident disgust.
"You... you..." Chun Zhou's nose tinged with bitterness as she stared at him in disbelief.
"Lock her up. No one is to approach her without my permission," Bai Li Yu commanded coldly, avoiding Chun Zhou's piercing gaze.
"You don't believe me?" Chun Zhou was seized by the two guards who stepped forward, yet she remained fixed on Bai Li Yu. "I am Shang Qingzheng, but I haven't done anything."
"You deceived me from the start under the guise of a maid, and now you're caught outside my study... Old Scoundrel Shang has caused me great trouble; keeping his daughter close was a moment of foolishness on my part."
Bai Li Yu furrowed his brow and refused to look at her. "So you'd better behave yourself."
"Yes... you don't believe me... that woman who is shouting about killing me is really your eyes, isn't she?"
Chun Zhou forced a laugh, holding back tears. "Heh, Bai Li Yu, I was truly foolish to think you were serious."
She gazed at the familiar face still wearing the unique glasses she had given him, yet at this moment, those eyes wouldn't even glance her way.
Suddenly, Chun Zhou felt all her strength drain away; she swayed unsteadily, struggling to remain upright.
Seeing their master fall silent, the guards finally took action and dragged her away.
Life! Truly unpredictable!
Chun Zhou couldn't sleep in her cell, her mind racing until she suddenly thought, "What if I try to break out like in a prison escape movie?"
The cell was simply constructed, with three walls and a barred door, appearing to lack any sophisticated design. Betting on the intelligence and dignity of a modern person, Chun Zhou began to tap and knock on the walls like a character from a martial arts novel.
Initially, she was searching for a hidden mechanism with the thought, "If Bai Li Yu wants to kill me, I’ll escape from here." Deep down, however, Chun Zhou didn’t truly believe that Bai Li Yu would actually go through with it.
But to her surprise, there was indeed a mechanism in this cell!
Though calling it a mechanism was a stretch because it was… quite shabby…
Facing the outside wall opposite the door, Chun Zhou pondered for a moment and discovered that the bricks were not even properly laid. If she removed them all, there would likely be just enough space for her to slip through.
What kind of prison is this…? I’m not really trying to break out! By tomorrow morning at the latest, the darkened Bai Li Yu will wake up and let me go… Despite these thoughts, Chun Zhou carefully loosened the bricks further and left a small gap covered with straw.
In the early hours of the morning, after a long night of exhaustion, she finally succumbed to sleep, leaning against the corner of the wall.
Chun Zhou woke up coughing from smoke.
It seemed she had only been asleep for a short while when a thick cloud of smoke filled her nostrils. Alarmed, she jolted awake and saw that her cell was engulfed in smoke.
“Help! Fire!” Chun Zhou shouted as she sprang up, but no one appeared. Moments later, she saw flames licking at the door.
“By order of General Feng, we’re burning down the prison! Accept your fate!” A voice from outside called out as Chun Zhou's heart raced and sweat poured down her face while she coughed uncontrollably.
“What kind of joke is this! Where’s Bai Li Yu? Tell that brat to come here and say it to my face! Hey! Bai Li Yu!”
Suppressing her despair and fear, Chun Zhou shouted desperately, “Bai Li Yu! Is that you?!”
The fire began to spread.
Refusing to give in, her eyes red and swollen from the smoke, she continued yelling outside, “Are you trying to burn me alive? Bai Li Yu!!!”
However, apart from the crackling of the firewood, there was no other sound.
As the flames grew fiercer, Chun Zhou leaned against the wall, staring blankly at the Blaze before her, the burning sensation on her skin intensifying.
She told herself to wait just one more second; he didn’t really want to kill her.
Wait just one more second; perhaps someone would rush in from the Blaze.
Wait just one more second…
The Blaze surged forward mercilessly, and tears streamed down Chun Zhou's face, whether from smoke or a broken heart, she couldn't tell. Her eyes burned painfully.
In the next moment, she hesitated not at all. With tears still flowing, she quickly pushed aside the loose bricks in the corner, revealing a hole she thought she would never use.
Chun Zhou crawled out of her cell and carefully replaced the bricks one by one.
Standing in the moonlight, her face smeared with soot and ash, she felt the heat from the fire behind her growing stronger as she stumbled forward several steps.
Suddenly, she noticed something furry at her feet, licking her pant leg—it was Big Yellow.
Chun Zhou crouched down to pet Big Yellow, who had somehow found her, but then she felt something strange. Blinking away the stinging tears, she stood up and suddenly realized that she could no longer see.
