Damn it, another traffic jam!
I slammed my palm on the steering wheel and honked a few times.
"Shit!" I glanced at my reflection in the rearview mirror, noticing the dark circles under my eyes. I had stayed up until three again last night; at this rate, I was bound to drop dead sooner or later.
At that moment, a red Ferrari zoomed up beside me and came to a stop.
I recognized the driver immediately—Lin Hao, a college classmate.
"What a coincidence, Old Li," he said, pushing his sunglasses down slightly and raising an eyebrow at me.
I forced a smile but said nothing.
If anyone was unlucky, it was him; he could choke on a sip of cold water. Why did I keep running into this jerk?
Last month, while I was at a meeting with the vice president, I accidentally scraped his taillight while backing out in the parking lot. He had said something like, "Hey, we're old classmates; why talk about money?" and then posted a picture of the repair bill on social media the next day. Was he just trying to annoy me?
Honestly, I couldn't stand Lin Hao—he was just another show-off who happened to have a wealthy dad. What was so impressive about that?
As soon as the light changed, his red Ferrari shot forward with a roar.
I rolled my eyes and sharply turned the steering wheel onto another road.
Wait a minute, this road seemed a bit strange today. There were three lanes, two of which were stuck waiting for the red light, while the middle lane was completely empty!
"Why is no one using this lane? Ha! Is it reserved just for me?"
I pressed down on the gas and merged into the vacant lane. In just ten seconds, I reached the intersection and came to a smooth stop in front of the crosswalk.
"VIP status! Haha! Are these people blind? Didn't their instructors teach them how to change lanes?"
I glanced at my watch—8:20, perfect! Just on time!
Suddenly, an odd creaking noise came from above me, followed by a sharp metallic tearing sound.
"What... is happening..."
I instinctively looked up, and from the skylight above, a massive traffic light came crashing down!
In an instant, the roof of my car was flattened. A shower of metal and glass shards rained down on me. Everything plunged into darkness...
Then, three seconds later, I saw the back of my own head. To be precise, it was the back of my head resting on the steering wheel. My body had been crushed beyond recognition, my neck twisted at an impossible angle, blood oozing from various crevices and staining the seat.
"Damn! Am I... really dead?"
Surrounding pedestrians quickly gathered around. A girl called for help while others pulled out their phones—some were taking pictures, others recording videos. One woman had her phone almost shoved in my face. "Guys, who would have thought that someone would throw a traffic light from above? This scene is just horrific..."
At that moment, two cars parked nearby suddenly opened their doors simultaneously. Four people stepped out, expressionless as they bypassed the crowd and approached my corpse. The onlookers seemed oblivious to these figures, continuing their chatter and snapping photos.
One of them pulled out a strange device from his pocket and scanned my body.
"Identity confirmed, harvest accurate."
Harvest? What harvest?
As I was trying to process this, one of the four—a chubby guy in a plaid shirt—suddenly turned and looked directly at me.
"Let’s go, stop dawdling."
"Where are we going? Wait, who are you?"
Without waiting for a response, the chubby guy grabbed my wrist and pulled me straight into the nearby greenery.
