In the middle of the night, when the Second Prince Rao Yin appeared in my room, I had just finished feeding Young Master.
It was a midsummer night, with cicadas chirping outside and the candlelight dim within. My chest was half-exposed, and I recalled how that delicate little infant had suckled sweetly, even grinding his newly grown milk teeth. A shiver ran through me.
Just as I contemplated whether to fetch some ointment, I heard a creak, and suddenly a foot dangled from the windowsill.
The embroidered satin short boots swayed gently, and only one person in all of Luo Xi Dynasty would wear such ostentatious shoes.
I stumbled back, about to kneel down, but I forgot that I was in disarray, my chest partially revealed. As darkness clouded my vision, I forced a smile and looked up, only to see the face that made me grit my teeth in hatred.
If one were to say how detestable Rao Yin looked, that would not be true. On the contrary, he was undeniably handsome. With a tall stature and a face more delicate than that of many young ladies, it was a pity that his character...
"Beast!" I muttered under my breath, quickly adjusting my collar. Unfortunately, no matter how I fumbled with the troublesome buttons, they wouldn't fasten properly, leaving me exposed.
Sensing a burning gaze fixed on me, my hand trembled and the buttons scattered across the floor.
As springtime light spilled forth, Rao Yin blinked and leaned closer with an arched eyebrow. " Granny Hu is... trying to seduce me?"
Seducing you? I took three steps back and said expressionlessly, "Your Highness has misunderstood."
"But Granny Hu just called me a 'beast,'" Rao Yin added nonchalantly.
"You heard wrong," I gritted my teeth.
"Oh." Rao Yin replied lightly, turning away. Just as I let out a long sigh of relief, he suddenly spun around and hooked a finger into my collar.
At that moment, I still didn't know his identity. Plus, I had just crossed over and was struggling to adjust to my new state. My gaze fell unabashedly on the small bite mark on my chest. "Hmm? What is this?"
I had woken up in a daze, and as I was about to relieve myself, someone suddenly pulled me into the bushes. Startled, I splashed the contents of the chamber pot all over him. "Who?!"
"Your Highness, this is..." His warm breath brushed against my face, nearly making me faint as I stammered out two words: " Occupational Injury."
I still remember his expression at that moment—covered in foul-smelling filth, staring at me with a mix of shock, anger, and disbelief. It was quite a sight.
As soon as the words left my mouth, I regretted it. I watched as Rao Yin's pitch-black eyes widened little by little until they were fully open. He sighed, "It seems I must report this to Father."
After that, he found various ways to torment me. Whether it was jumping through windows every few days or summoning me when Young Master was crying from hunger, I ended up being scolded by the old matron more than once.
"Of course! Even the dairy cows in the barn have been given extra feed these days!" I blurted out without thinking.
Rao Yin narrowed his eyes at me, glaring for a moment before hooking his leg around mine and pinning me down.
"Ouch! What kind of position is this?!" I struggled to get up, but his strength was overwhelming.
With a loud bang, the door swung open, and I turned to see a guard standing there in shock.
Moments later, Rao Yin's calm voice came from outside the door: "Go report to the Emperor that Young Master has started teething and needs some dietary supplements to promote tooth growth. Also, bring some fresh hay from the barn for Granny Hu tomorrow..."
I fell to the ground completely. That Damn Crow really treated me like a milk cow! And that little thing has become quite something; if it grows a few more teeth...
I was utterly confused, reflecting on these past few months, filled with sorrow.
The cicadas outside were making an unbearable noise, and I picked up a brick and threw it out the window. "Rao Yin, you little brat!"
I heard a pitiful "ah" from outside, followed by silence. I glanced out and indeed saw a red bump on Rao Yin's forehead; I couldn't tell if it was from sneaking into someone else's yard at night again.
Rao Yin, however, laughed casually. "Yesterday, I was strolling in the garden when a stray cat came out of nowhere and knocked over a brick that hit my forehead. I heard that Granny Hu comes from a family of medicine, so perhaps she knows some folk remedies that could prevent scarring. That's why I wanted to ask Granny Hu to take a look."
