The night was as cold as water, the moonlight dancing and casting a pale glow on the ground, resembling a haunting ghostly face.
Guan Shubai slumped in a corner of her cell, the moonlight streaming through the narrow window and illuminating her cheek with a ghastly pallor. Her white robe was stained with blood, the fabric torn at her back, and deep lash marks marred her skin. The most horrifying sight was the fine chain that pierced her shoulder blade; any slight movement caused purple blood to seep out.
The chain was crafted with great intricacy, about the thickness of a thumb, adorned with elaborate patterns and a silver bell dangling from it. With the slightest motion, the bell would ring out, its clear chime echoing in the stillness of the cell.
Gu Jin'an had been inside for quite some time. Although it was raining outside, being August, it wasn't too cold; he wore a black cloak and deer-hide boots lined with fur.
If not for his excessively pale face, he would have appeared quite handsome. He stood there silently, watching Guan Shubai.
The cell door stood wide open, only a few steps separating them, close enough that it seemed he could reach out and touch the hem of her garment. In his twenty-plus years of life, he had never been this close to her.
The night breeze swept in, carrying the dampness typical of prison life; his hair was tousled by it, making his already pale face look even more ghostly.
"Does it hurt?" Gu Jin'an's voice was barely audible.
Guan Shubai did not look at him or respond. He removed his cloak and walked slowly to her side, draping it over her shoulders.
Noticing the chain at her shoulder blade, he smiled faintly and gently said, "On the day my family was exterminated, I was strung up like this too, crawling through Changxing Gate like a dog, watching my kin die at the hands of others. I know how much it hurts."
Seeing that Guan Shubai remained silent, Gu Jin'an chuckled softly and gently embraced her. "Xiao Bai, I don’t want to hurt you, but you’re too stubborn for your own good; I have no choice."
"I won’t give you the military token," Guan Shubai replied weakly with a cold laugh. "You might as well give up on that."
"Who said I came for that?"
Gu Jin'an raised an eyebrow slightly, his fingers brushing against Guan Shubai's cracked lips as he spoke softly, "I remember you were most afraid of thunderstorms when you were little. Now, with the thunder and rain outside, I'm here to keep you company."
With that, he lowered his head and kissed her neck.
Guan Shubai swung her hand in disgust to hit him, but Gu Jin'an swiftly grasped the chain on her collarbone, giving it a gentle tug. Instantly, Guan Shubai felt a sharp pain that made her limbs go weak, and she let out a cry, large beads of sweat rolling down her forehead.
Gu Jin'an captured her lips with his own, swallowing her cries as he held the chain with one hand and deftly unfastened her clothing with the other. His palm caressed her smooth white chest as he chuckled softly, murmuring, "Little Bai, does he kiss you like this too?"
"Get lost!" Guan Shubai cursed in a hoarse voice, nearly fainting from the pain. Her eyes were red, yet she stubbornly held back her tears.
Gu Jin'an's fingers danced around her lower abdomen, finally lifting her skirt gently as he reached down.
"With so many women, how could he care for you? On such a stormy night, who will hold you?"
The fabric tore apart, and Gu Jin'an let out a light laugh as he descended upon Guan Shubai's soft, pale body.
The flickering lights cast a dim glow around them; Gu Jin'an's eyes were bloodshot, resembling a fierce beast as he took what he desired from Guan Shubai.
Guan Shubai bit down hard on her lip, refusing to make a sound. Her limbs struggled desperately against him, but how could she break free? All she could do was let more blood flow out in torrents, dark and purple like crushed rose juice.
