"Don't even think about it!" She stopped laughing, coldly staring at Su Chi. "Don't even think about it—! Whether I have that damned Linglong Spine or not, you will not succeed! I will never let you have your way."
Seeing Su Peijiu say such things, Su Chi's face gradually turned cold. "As my daughter, isn't it your duty to serve the Su Family?"
"Daughter of the Su Family?" The jade hand hidden in her sleeve clenched tightly, a piercing pain immediately spreading through her limbs. "How can someone who has never cared for me even dare to call himself my father?"
She bit her lips until they turned white, sluggishly stepping back. "You are not worthy to be a father!"
"You ungrateful girl—!" Su Chi raised his hand, wanting to strike Su Peijiu, while she held her head high and laughed coldly, as if provoking him.
"Why aren't you coming in yet?" Suddenly, the stone door was pushed open, and Bai Shuangya stepped out in a white outfit, her brows carrying a hint of ruthlessness and less compassion. This was indeed the true face of the Su Family's Third Concubine!
Seeing the trembling Su Chi and the stubborn Su Peijiu, she chuckled lightly, already understanding the situation. She walked over to Su Chi and patted his back. "Don't argue with children; it can lead to illness."
"Second Sister understands some things; hurry up and come in so we can quickly extract the Linglong Spine." She reached out to pull Su Peijiu but was met with a sharp slap.
"Is Second Sister trying to force me to act violently?" Bai Shuangya raised an eyebrow and stepped forward, her gaze no longer friendly.
Su Peijiu bit her lip and retreated. "Third Concubine spends all day in the Buddhist realm; you should have been pure by now. Why do you still meddle in the filth of the secular world?"
"Every cause has its effect; my causes and effects all stem from your father." She didn't care how absurd her words sounded. "Buddhism taught me to understand that one must follow the law of cause and effect without resistance."
"So..." She extended her hand. "Come here obediently, or I won't be polite."
"What do you want to do to extract the Linglong Spine?" Su Peijiu's gaze shifted as she changed the topic, hoping that those outside Nan Xie Tower would notice her disappearance.
Bai Shuangya knew her tricks well. "Be honest; I've eaten more salt than you've drunk water. You'll find out how to extract the Linglong Spine soon enough." She stepped forward and swiftly sealed Su Peijiu's acupoints with two quick strikes.
"Behave yourself; you are still the Legitimate Daughter of the Su Family. If you continue to be so unreasonable..." Bai Shuangya narrowed her eyes, lowering her voice near Su Peijiu's ear. "I won't be able to save you."
Once inside the secret chamber, Su Peijiu discovered that the cave was filled with rare treasures. She even found two luminous cups from her former chamber in the Great Yan Imperial Palace.
"Let's begin." Su Chi stood there expressionlessly, waiting for Bai Shuangya to make her move.
Bai Shuangya pushed Su Peijiu onto the stone bed in the middle of the cave, then took a dagger and a porcelain bowl from the table beside her. She walked over to Su Chi and made a cut on his wrist, collecting the blood in the bowl. Noticing Su Peijiu's surprised expression, she said, "Princess Jun used her own blood to imprint the Linglong Spine on your wrist, so it must also be removed with the blood of a relative."
She carefully approached with the bowl filled with blood, pulled back the sleeve on Su Peijiu's right wrist to reveal her smooth skin, and frowned as she poured the blood over it. A flash of golden light appeared and then vanished without a trace.
Bai Shuangya stared blankly as she emptied the bowl of blood but still did not see the so-called Linglong Spine. Su Chi, disregarding his own wound, strode forward and asked sharply, "What’s going on?"
"The method in this ancient book cannot be wrong... The only reason the Linglong Spine isn't appearing now is..."
Upon hearing this, Su Chi staggered back a step. His gaze toward Su Peijiu turned resentful: "I knew it... I should have known! That wretched woman..." His anger intensified, his eyes reddening as he stepped forward and slapped Su Peijiu, who lay motionless on the stone bed.
"Abomination! Abomination! Abomination..." After three or four slaps, his wrist wound burst open, blood spilling everywhere. Bai Shuangya immediately grabbed him: "Master, don’t hurt yourself."
She pulled Su Chi aside to bandage his wound while Su Peijiu lay on the stone bed, unable to speak or move, staring wide-eyed with blood in her mouth. Her questions overshadowed even Su Chi's beating.
If Su Chi was not her father, then who was?
Why did Jun Liuji marry Su Chi all those years ago?
Listening to Su Chi's cold snort from over there: "Since she’s not my biological child, there's no need to keep her after this matter is settled."
A cold glint flashed in Bai Shuangya's gentle eyes as she replied, "Yes, Master."
After bandaging Su Chi's wound, she slowly walked over: "I originally wanted to spare you some suffering, but I didn't expect you not to be Master’s biological offspring. Now there’s only one last method left..." She flipped the dagger in her hand over Su Peijiu's bloody wrist, a cold smile on her lips: "What a beautiful wrist! I really want to keep it as a treasure." The dagger was raised high!
She actually intended to sever her right wrist...!!! Su Peijiu's eyes widened in fury; if this woman really cut off her right hand, she would never let her go! Absolutely not!
In an instant of electric sparks, a force suddenly lifted Su Peijiu off the stone bed while Bai Shuangya was knocked back several meters before stopping.
Everything happened so quickly that Su Peijiu barely had time to react when suddenly two points were pressed on her chest, and her body relaxed as her savior released her acupoints.
"Tsk tsk... The Poison Widow, who has been hidden away from the martial world for over a decade, actually appears in the Prime Minister's Residence's secret chamber. This surprises me greatly," Ji Yu sneered, her narrow phoenix eyes filled with murderous intent.
Bai Shuangya was momentarily stunned and speechless. It was Su Chi who stood in front of her: "What business do you have here? Knowing that you are on the territory of the Prime Minister's Residence, it would be wise to put down the spawn in your arms to avoid suffering."
"Oh? Spawn?" Ji Yu cast a faint glance at Su Peijiu's bruised and bleeding face, then smiled, "Is my master's junior sister a spawn? Chancellor, you have quite the audacity."
"You—" Su Chi wanted to say something, but suddenly felt a darkness in his mind and collapsed to the ground before he could turn around to see who was behind him.
Bai Shuangya lowered her weapon, shedding the demeanor of a virtuous lady. In that moment, Su Peijiu felt she resembled a spider laced with poison, her gaze suggesting she could strike at any moment.
"The leader of the Demon Sect is actually our Second Sister of the Su Family's senior brother...?" After placing Su Chi down, Bai Shuangya stood up and slowly spoke, her gaze towards Su Peijiu somewhat subtle: "This is truly unexpected; I never thought the one hiding deepest within the Prime Minister's Residence would be that incompetent and cowardly Second Sister."
Su Peijiu wanted to speak but didn't want to move her mouth as it would pull at her wounds, causing tears to fall. She patted Ji Yu, asking him to let her down, standing straight to look at Bai Shuangya: "Third Concubine, your words are mistaken. Hasn't the one hiding deepest within the Prime Minister's Residence always been you? It seems even the Chancellor has been deceived by your true appearance."
Ji Yu interjected from the side: "Junior sister is unaware; it is said in the martial world that Poison Widow, due to practicing her skills improperly, has completely ruined her looks, making her even uglier than your pig-like face now."
Su Peijiu: "..." As expected, there wasn't a single kind word; he took the opportunity to insult her.
Bai Shuangya, enraged and humiliated, had always been troubled by not being able to let her beloved see her ruined appearance. "Let's see if you can still be so arrogant later!" She leaped forward, a silver net shooting out from her sleeve. Ji Yu quickly embraced Su Peijiu and flew away from their original spot.
"Indeed, it's Poison Widow. The first move is quite impressive." Ji Yu observed as the stone bed covered by the net began to rot, speaking indifferently. "However, your skills are still far too lacking compared to mine. There are other matters today; junior sister should take her leave. We can spar another day when there's time."
As they retreated towards the exit at the back, Su Peijiu, tucked under his arm, could only see the stone patterns on the ground rapidly moving away until they soon reached the sunlight outside.
"I didn't expect my senior brother's escape skills to be this impressive." After being set down, Su Peijiu laughed as she spoke; just moments ago she thought they were about to fight.
Ji Yu disdainfully patted her head and then smirked: "Fight against a poisonous spider? Your senior brother isn't looking for death."
"This poisonous spider is better than you?"
"How could that be! If it weren't for your senior brother having been entangled with the Desolate King for a while before coming here and having his old injuries flare up again, ten poisonous spiders wouldn't stand a chance against him." Ji Yu pretended not to care as he moved his shoulders and walked ahead. "Let's hurry; otherwise, if that counterfeit father of yours wakes up, we won't be able to get out."
Su Peijiu noticed that a patch of red on his shoulder had already become wet, looking darker than other areas. No wonder her senior brother always wore crimson clothes; was it to avoid being discovered after getting injured?
Just as she was about to chase after him, she saw a woman standing behind the artificial hill, it was Silver Dove. She was holding a plate and watching Su Peijiu, showing no intention of coming over.
Su Peijiu scoffed coldly, then without looking back, followed Ji Yu away.
Those who did not trust her would not receive her trust in return...
After finally exiting the Prime Minister's Residence, as soon as they stepped onto the street, they saw groups of officials and soldiers running around as if they were capturing someone. To be safe, Ji Yu pulled Su Peijiu along.
However, as they approached the city gate, Ji Yu smiled with pale lips and said, "Junior Sister, you go ahead. I still have some matters to attend to." He leaned against the wall, appearing very relaxed and at ease, as if he truly had something to do.
Su Peijiu didn't believe him and suddenly turned him around, pulling at his collar. Ji Yu raised his hand to block her: "Junior Sister, it's been a few days since we last met. Why are you so fierce? It's broad daylight; if you really want to see, I can show you later when we get back."
Su Peijiu rolled her eyes at him and pulled down his clothing. Sure enough, she saw his white undergarment soaked in blood. The injury was so severe that he had carried her this far.
"Don't you know how to take care of yourself?" She pouted her face, her watery eyes wide open. Despite her disheveled appearance, she looked even cuter than usual in Ji Yu's astonished gaze.
His expression softened: "Ge'er is concerned about me?" He liked to call her Ge'er; it was just a term used between senior and junior siblings to avoid the awkwardness of their insecure relationship.
Su Peijiu peeked outside the alley; there were still soldiers out there. "Senior Brother, follow me. There's a safe place where we can bandage your wounds."
Unexpectedly not hearing any movement behind them, she turned around to see the man smiling warmly at her, his face full of affection. Seeing her turn back, he reached out a hand: "Take me with you." His tone carried an endearing quality that was rarely heard before.
