When Mings, Shao Wen, and Xiao Ning arrived at Bu Dong Mountain Manor, the atmosphere was already lively. The red-painted iron gate was adorned with large red lanterns and vibrant red ribbons, creating a festive ambiance.
Miss Guan San, Guan Tianshe, was bouncing around outside the gate, directing the servants to attend to various tasks. Upon seeing Mings and the others, Tianshe fixed a fierce gaze on Shao Wen, who had already begun to hide behind Mings. Shao Wen muttered softly, "Why do we have to run into this jinx right away?"
Xiao Ning nearly burst out laughing at the scene.
Guan Tianshe hopped over and exclaimed, "What are you doing here? No one has died today!"
Mings awkwardly smiled and replied, "Third Miss, we're not here to investigate. Your father invited us to his Birthday Banquet."
"Invited? I had no idea!" Guan Tianshe tilted her head in confusion.
Shao Wen couldn't help but interject, "Are you saying we would come here just to mooch off food and drink?"
Guan Tianshe snorted, "Others might not, but you definitely would!"
"What do you mean by that? I'm much older than you; how rude!"
Shao Wen leaned out slightly to argue with Guan Tianshe.
Guan Tianshe shot back at him, "Rude or not, what are you going to do about it? Bad boy, bad boy! I'll call you that a hundred times!"
"Tianshe!" A tall figure suddenly appeared—Guan Ao called out to his sister. Guan Tianshe immediately fell silent but continued to hide behind him while making faces at Shao Wen. Shao Wen was so furious that his nose nearly crinkled in annoyance.
Guan Ao quickly led a few people to the main hall of Bu Dong Mountain Manor. The courtyard in front of the hall had been cleaned up, looking quite grand and tidy. Guan Ao smiled and said, "Tian Fan mentioned that I've aged a lot these days. So I invited the most famous Acrobatic Troupe from Fan Bo City to entertain me. That's why we tidied up the courtyard."
Guan Ao and Mings took their seats in the hall, and Mings, leading two Little Constables, raised a toast to Guan Ao, saying, "This cup of wine is for you, hero Guan. May you age like the pine trees and remain evergreen year after year!"
Guan Ao laughed heartily and downed his drink in one go.
Suddenly, Guan Tianfan, who had not shown himself until now, stepped out from behind. Upon seeing Mings and the others, he was momentarily taken aback before walking straight to Guan Ao. Leaning close to Guan Ao's ear, he whispered a few words. After hearing what Guan Tianfan said, Guan Ao's previously rosy face turned noticeably grim as he gazed toward the direction from which Guan Tianfan had come.
A slender figure slowly emerged, her emerald-green eyes belonging to Qing Die, the maid from Guan Tianming's room. Qing Die gracefully bowed and then picked up a cup of wine from the side to present it to Guan Ao. His expression softened slightly as he asked, "Is Tian Ming still unwilling to see me?"
Qing Die replied, "The second young master said he is not feeling well and wishes to rest early. He instructed me to offer you this cup of wine!"
Suddenly, Guan Tianfan interjected, "Father arranged the Birthday Banquet for him in the evening; how can he not even show his face? It's infuriating—simply..."
Before Guan Tianfan could finish his sentence, Guan Ao suddenly shouted, "Be quiet! You have no place to speak here!"
Qing Die remained expressionless and asked, "Master, will you drink this cup of wine?"
Guan Ao gazed at Qing Die for a moment before bursting into laughter. "Of course I'll drink! My smartest son is offering me wine; why wouldn't I?"
Guan Ao took the wine from Qing Die's hand and drank it all in one gulp. He then slammed the cup down on the table with such force that it left a deep dent in the sturdy mahogany surface.
Qing Die seemed oblivious to everything else and picked up another cup of wine from the table. With a slight turn, she presented it to Mings, saying, "This cup of wine is from the second young master to Captain Ming."
Mings appeared somewhat surprised as Qing Die suddenly broke into a smile. She added, "Young Master Tian Ming said that Captain Ming is the person he feels closest to after Qing Die over these past eight years. So he offers this toast to you!"
Suddenly, Guan Ao stood up and walked silently towards the back of the hall. Mings looked at Qing Die, whose eyes resembled a deep green pond, and smiled slightly, saying, "Alright, I'll drink!"
