The fat man suddenly began to tremble uncontrollably, as if he were surrounded by Hydrochloric Acid.
Deep down, he knew that he was the one who had killed that girl.
I’m sorry, I’m sorry, he repeated to himself in his mind.
Even though I am a useless person, I still hope to live, to live with dignity.
If one of us has to die, then please let it be you.
If I were you, I wouldn’t hold any resentment against the other after death.
He clutched the cold gold bar tightly in his arms, nearly bursting into tears.
Please, please rest in peace.
Suddenly, the cage shook violently and then began to descend rapidly.
How is this possible?
The fat man used the last of his strength to look across.
Suspended above the cage on the opposite side was the girl. Her feet curled up in the air, not touching any Hydrochloric Acid.
The only difference was that the iron plate at the bottom of her cage had vanished.
He looked down at his own cage; what was supposed to be the ground was a smooth, cold iron plate, very thin.
At the beginning, the girl had mentioned that there was a Counterweight hanging below the cage because she had seen that a Counterweight was attached beneath the fat man's cage as well.
He had also seen that there was a Counterweight beneath the girl's cage.
The Counterweight under her cage was meant to balance the weight of both cages.
Because she was lighter.
But why was there a Counterweight beneath the fat man's cage?
Could this be the ultimate key to the game?
The fat man examined the cage; there were no exits or doors on its bars, not even a place to unlock it.
So, how would the organizers let the victor out after the game? Would they use a welding torch to cut through the bars? Or perhaps...
That so-called Hydrochloric Acid Pool wasn’t a deadly trap but rather a passage to freedom!
After answering the questions, the balance was disrupted.
The heavier cage would slowly descend into the Hydrochloric Acid Pool, but it wouldn’t be an immediate disaster; instead, there would be a gradual process of immersion.
During this process, the highly corrosive Hydrochloric Acid would quickly eat away at the bottom of the cage. The Counterweight, which added weight to the bottom of the cage, would also fall off as the suspended base disappeared.
This was the decisive weight in the game, not gold.
Therefore, to ensure fairness, both cages were equipped with sufficient Counterweights, including that of the already heavy fat man's cage.
This way, regardless of whose cage submerged in the Hydrochloric Acid Pool first, that cage would soon rise again.
More crucially, once the bottom of the cage was corroded through, the originally sealed prison would naturally open an exit, allowing whoever was trapped inside to escape.
The one who survived would be the one who had collected the most gold.
But what about those who would disappear?
Once one person escaped from their cage, the balance would be severely disrupted. The other cage would plummet rapidly, sinking instantly into the Hydrochloric Acid Pool. That person would have no chance of escape.
This was truly the final outcome of the entire game.
The fat man's cage began to descend rapidly. In that fleeting moment as both iron cages crossed paths, he saw a girl swing out from her bottomless cage and leap into a safe zone outside of the Hydrochloric Acid Pool.
You survived, even though you gained no gold.
How nice.
In the swaying cage descending, the fat man tried to stand up, wanting to climb to the top of the cage like a girl, but he had lost too much blood and lacked the strength.
Even if climbing up would be useless, living for just one more moment would be good. But he couldn't do it.
Let it end like this, he thought as the Hydrochloric Acid seeped into the cage.
After all, I am already too tired.
Suddenly, he recalled the livestock he had crushed beneath him.
Were their faces, drained of blood at death, similar to the expression on his face now? Was that expression a smile?
He had lived, struggled, fought desperately, and now he was dying.
Do not linger.
Do not worry.
