The room was very quiet.
Suddenly, the air conditioner on the wall started up, blowing out a stream of cool air, and Guan Qing fainted once again.
She tried to force herself to wake up, but she couldn’t do it.
She saw her memories transform into a vast storage room filled with countless small cubicles.
Some cubicles held her childhood, while others contained memories of her parents and relatives.
One cubicle was particularly beautiful, featuring a gentle hillside covered in vast fields of blue-purple lavender.
This cubicle stored her memories of love for Jack.
Another cubicle was dark and damp, with a pair of red eyes blinking in the shadows; it held memories of Mei Xu Company. The doors to these last two cubicles slowly closed.
Then, she felt like a leaf caught in a tornado, blown far away from those two doors.
Guan Qing woke up.
She stretched comfortably and glanced at the alarm clock on her bedside.
There was still plenty of time before work.
She sat up and rubbed her head, noticing a slight headache. The television at the foot of her bed was still on; she must have forgotten to turn it off before sleeping.
The TV was playing an advertisement for the air conditioners from Mei Xu Company.
The company was offering discounts again.
Guan Qing looked at her old air conditioner and decided it was time for a replacement. She remembered visiting a company just yesterday; the details were hazy, but the overall impression was good.
After washing up and drinking two cups of coffee, her headache eased a bit. She left her home, ready to drive to work.
As she started the car, a voice came from the back seat: “Don’t turn around, just keep driving.”
Guan Qing felt something cold pressed against the back of her neck. She glanced in the rearview mirror and saw a face marred by scars.
That face seemed familiar to her, yet she couldn’t recall where she had seen it before.
The car drove out of the city and headed towards the outskirts. They passed through main roads and turned onto a small path, crossing vast fields blanketed in snow, away from any surveillance.
After six hours of driving, the car stopped on a mountain slope.
There stood a wooden cabin.
The Scar-Faced Man ordered her to drive into the cabin's garage, then handcuffed her hands behind her back with cuffs from Guan Qing’s own car before escorting her inside.
Inside the cabin stood another man. Guan Qing also found him familiar but couldn’t place where she had encountered him.
The man instructed Guan Qing to sit down with her handcuffs on, then he and the Scar-Faced Man sat across from her. “Guan Qing, hello. This is Shi Guang, I’m Jack,” he said.
Two weeks later, the police arrested Mei Xu Company and rescued hundreds of test subjects who had been forced into experiments.
These subjects were homeless individuals abducted by Mei Xu Company from various places. Because they were all homeless, no one noticed their disappearance.
Thus, a conspiracy within a conspiracy was unveiled to the world.
During a globally streamed public trial, Lin Sheng, the owner of Mei Xu Company, openly confessed: he has developed a forgetfulness aerosol that spreads through central air conditioning systems. This aerosol primarily consists of Nano Robots that can instantly erase a person's memory. He then sends signals via Satellite to input new memory signals into the blank minds of individuals affected by the aerosol.
The police discovered several boxes of videotapes in his laboratory that served as memory signals. The tapes featured his speeches.
He delivered his addresses with the demeanor of a king, demanding that everyone remember him as the ruler of humanity.
In the police office, three individuals sat in front of a television watching the trial together: Jack, Guan Qing, and Shi Guang.
It turned out that when Jack carried Wei Namian's corpse into the cucumber-shaped vessel and replaced the seat cover, he noticed explosives hidden under the chair. Before the cucumber exploded, he managed to use an Escape Device to jump out of the cabin.
Since Jack was investigating Mei Xu Company, Lin Sheng had been looking for opportunities to eliminate him.
Lin Sheng had hackers infiltrate the police's task dispatch computer system, falsely notifying him of a case involving a blackened right hand to lure him into solving it. At the same time, he deceived the police department by indicating that Jack should go to downtown, while actually directing him to Zhu Lin Peak. This chaotic record misled them, resulting in an explosion that destroyed the cucumber he was in, eliminating him while also destroying Wei Namian's body.
This was also why Robot Liaison 3A1904 experienced operational errors.
Fortunately, Jack jumped out of the cabin just in time.
He landed in a tree but fell from its canopy and broke his leg. He was then rescued by a local hunter.
Jack decided to play along with the situation, allowing everyone to believe he was dead while secretly investigating the conspiracy following the explosion.
