I was familiar with "Fisherman's Song," having visited it a few times with Qing Lan. It was a leisure club transformed from a sizable boat, combining dining, drinking, and entertainment all in one place. Its location was not far from the small creek where the body was discovered. Due to its natural surroundings, the business thrived.
I nodded, "Yes, I know that place. So if Wang Qi is the murderer, then the crime must have taken place there. But the question is, how did he manage to get Yu Xin onto the boat? And how could he kill her without anyone noticing? He would also need to transport the body; how could he do that alone?"
"Yes, that's a significant issue. However, one thing to note is that 'Fisherman's Song' is owned by Wang Qi's father. That means it's essentially their territory. I believe there must be some way to accomplish this. As for transporting the body, the two locations aren't too far apart. If it were done in the middle of the night, it wouldn't be too difficult; they could drive or sail. We’ll need to investigate on-site to find out more," Hua Yin analyzed.
"Alright, let's check it out tomorrow. But I still want to find Mei Tiantian. Should we go together or split up?" I asked.
"Hmm..." Hua Yin pondered for a moment. "Let's go together."
To save time, we arranged to meet Mei Tiantian at "Fisherman's Song." This way, we could talk with her and also observe the situation at the venue.
"Fisherman's Song" had three floors, and we decided to meet on the top floor in the "Leisure Pavilion." This would allow us to investigate from top to bottom.
When Mei Tiantian arrived, she looked quite different from her photos; it seemed she had undergone significant changes. In the pictures, she appeared vibrant, but now there was a hint of melancholy about her—perhaps due to what had happened with Wang Keyi. Accompanying her was a tall boy who turned out to be her current boyfriend, Wang Zhe.
Once they sat down, Mei Tiantian seemed somewhat lost and unsure of what to say. It was her boyfriend Wang Zhe who spoke first: "So, what exactly are you two here for? I hope it's not just a joke."
"Of course not; we would never joke about something like this," Hua Yin replied. "Mei Tiantian, you were very close with Wang Keyi, right?"
Mei Tiantian looked at us and nodded, "Yes, we were best friends once."
"Best friends? Then how could you focus on your exams when Wang Keyi was in trouble?" Normally such conversations should be approached calmly, but for some reason, I blurted out the question without thinking. Hua Yin kicked me lightly under the table as a hint to be more discreet.
"I... I don't know," Mei Tiantian suddenly felt her eyes welling up, which was somewhat unexpected. "At that time, I didn't know that Ke Yi had an accident. You can ask Xiao Xin if you don't believe me."
"Are you talking about Yu Xin?" I asked.
"Yes... yes, Xiao Xin was with me at that time. We had no idea what was happening," Mei Tiantian's voice trembled slightly.
"Can you tell us more specifically what happened back then?" I thought it was important to clarify the details of the incident first. As for Yu Xin, since she was unaware, it would be better not to mention her for now.
"Yes, can you please share? We need to know," Hua Yin echoed.
"I... I don't know. You should ask Xiao Xin!" Mei Tiantian furrowed her brows, looking pained. "Don't ask me, please don't ask me!"
"We can't ask Yu Xin right now, so we have to ask you," Hua Yin said slowly.
"No, go ask Xiao Xin! Don't ask me! Please!" Mei Tiantian seemed to become agitated.
"Please don't make it harder for her!" Wang Zhe pulled Mei Tiantian into his embrace, visibly angry. "For the past year, Tiantian has been tormented almost every day because of that incident. Do you have any idea how much pressure she's under with everyone blaming her?!"
"I'm sorry, we truly didn't know that. But this matter is very important to us, so we hope you can help us," I tried to keep my tone gentle.
"I've already said not to make it harder for her!" Wang Zhe snapped. "If you want to ask someone, go ask that girl named Yu Xin! Wasn't she there too? Why not ask her?!"
"Because Yu Xin is already dead." I didn't expect that I would have to say it after all.
