"Hehe, how did you figure it out?" Zhao Yi asked as he lit a cigarette.
"I found it strange the day I went to your office looking for you. The tone of your voice and the look in your eyes when you talked about Wang Keyi didn’t feel like that of a teacher towards a student at all. That’s when I started to suspect. Later, I even specifically asked Mei Tiantian about Wang Keyi's boyfriend, and her evasive answer almost confirmed my suspicions," I continued as I approached Mei Tiantian. "Moreover, the way she looked at you that day, filled with fear and guilt, and her reluctance to mention Wang Keyi's boyfriend afterward only added to my doubts."
"I just... happened to see Ke Yi and Teacher Zhao together... so I knew," Mei Tiantian said softly. "Even though Ke Yi didn't say anything, I'm sure I'm not wrong."
"And compared to Wang Zhe, who lives in the mountains, you live right next to 'Fisherman's Song,' very close to the riverbank. Doesn’t that give you the perfect opportunity to commit the crime?" I turned my head and noticed Mei Tiantian's eyes were starting to well up with tears, her hands tightly clenched into fists.

"I have no need to refute anything. I originally planned to turn myself in after finishing up some unfinished business in a few days. It was only a matter of time," Zhao Yi replied calmly but with a hint of resignation.
"Why did you kill Yu Xin?"
"Why? Didn’t you just say it? It was for revenge. Some people see teacher-student relationships as twisted, but who can say that we weren’t genuinely in love?" Zhao Yi raised his head, a hint of defiance in his eyes.
"A teacher-student relationship isn’t inherently twisted; what’s twisted is that you ended another innocent life because of it," I countered.
"Perhaps you're right. Ever since Ke Yi died, I've felt suffocated and depressed; those feelings have been building up inside me. In fact, before committing murder, I hesitated repeatedly. My rational mind told me it wasn’t their fault, but my emotions convinced me that it was because of their actions that Ke Yi died! In the end, reason didn’t triumph over emotion," Zhao Yi's voice trembled slightly.
"That’s because your emotions are merely a reflection of your selfishness!" Wang Zhe interjected from the side. "Do you think I’m not heartbroken over my cousin’s death? She was the closest person to me! But I know that what happened wasn’t their fault. They too are suffering in pain and guilt because of this. That’s why I can accept them! If you truly loved my cousin, then you should know she would rather sacrifice herself than see those around her get hurt!"
"That's right," Zhao Yi said in a low voice, tinged with sadness. "I know it's not their fault. But every time I think about how they chose to take the exam instead of saving Ke Yi, I can't help but..."
"No! That's not how it was! It wasn't like that!" Mei Tiantian shouted, tears streaming down her face.
I knew that the truth of that incident was about to come to light.
Mei Tiantian finally revealed the truth of what had happened.
On that day last year, the three of them had tried to escape but failed to break free from the killer's grasp—Wang Keyi had unfortunately been captured. At that time, the assailant claimed that if Mei Tiantian and Yu Xin were willing to take the exam and "replace" Wang Keyi in enduring humiliation, he would guarantee that no harm would come to her. Otherwise, the consequences could be imagined. However, as fate would have it, how could one easily trust the words of a criminal? When they finished their exam and arrived at the agreed location only to find Wang Keyi missing, they realized they had made a grave mistake.
