“Shu Huan! Shu Huan!” Lu Wan frantically pounded on the glass window.
Through the glass, he saw a woman lying in a pool of blood on the floor.
On the wall facing the window, a large circle had been drawn in blood.
In the center of the circle, Shu Huan was “hung” on the wall like a clock, her body in a cruciform position, resembling a suffering Jesus.
Lu Wan was already in a state of panic, desperately banging and hitting the glass. But the acrylic window was incredibly sturdy and remained unmoved. He looked at Shu Huan inside the room, his heart racing. Just then, he caught sight of an axe in the nearby Chai Dui. He quickly grabbed the axe and raised it high; with a loud crash, a large hole shattered through the acrylic window.
He eagerly tried to reach his hand through the hole to pry open the window latch.
At that moment, another hand tightly grabbed Lu Wan’s wrist, immobilizing him. He turned to see a fair-skinned youth. “Let me do it,” the boy said assertively as he pulled Lu Wan’s hand back.
In his other hand, he held a handkerchief and carefully undid the window latch. As he opened the window, Lu Wan rushed forward, followed closely by the village chief and the boy.
“Be careful not to disturb the scene!” The boy's voice nagged from behind.
Lu Wan hardly paid attention to this; his mind was solely focused on Shu Huan.
“She’s already dead.”
The boy squatting beside the woman spoke in a tone as if reading a verdict. “What’s with this needle mark on her arm…”
Before the words had left her mouth, Lu Wan had already untied the ropes and set Shu Huan free.
"Why are you here again?!" Lu Wan exclaimed as she entered Shu Huan's room with a lunchbox, only to find the boy from yesterday—Lin Mu Feng. Her expression changed instantly, anger flaring up.
"I came to ask Teacher Shu about the case," Lin Mu Feng said nonchalantly. "Just as I suspected, she witnessed the 'Demon God' committing murder."
Lu Wan slammed the lunchbox onto the table and quickly approached Lin Mu Feng, pointing at him and saying, "Get out of here!"
"Ah Wan!" Shu Huan's voice was weak but firm.
"Alright," Lu Wan said, forcing down her anger. "Teacher Lin, please leave. I need to speak with her alone for a moment."
"No," Lin Mu Feng said, showing no intention of leaving. Instead, he stubbornly added, "My conversation with Teacher Shu isn't finished yet."
Lu Wan grabbed Lin Mu Feng by the collar, glaring down at him. "I'll say it again: she needs to rest now. Out!"
"I'll leave once I've finished asking my questions!" Lin Mu Feng insisted obstinately.
Lu Wan raised her fist, glaring fiercely at him.
Lin Mu Feng met her gaze without fear.
"Lu Wan!" Shu Huan, sitting on the folding bed, hurriedly intervened, then broke into a violent cough.
The fist hesitated in the air before finally coming down.
"Come with me," Lin Mu Feng suddenly stood up, pulling Lu Wan out the door.
"I still don't understand where he took you after you left, that made your attitude change so drastically," Shu Huan said curiously, looking at Lu Wan. Lu Wan smiled mysteriously and replied, "Well, that's a secret."
"So this means it's a locked-room murder," Shu Huan remarked upon hearing Lu Wan's words as she entered.
"Yes, that's correct," came Lin Mu Feng's voice. "And Teacher Shu is the only witness. What she has to say is crucial."
Shu Huan watched as the two of them exchanged words while walking to her bedside, feeling quite puzzled—how could two people who had just been at odds suddenly be conversing so cheerfully?
"Xiao Huan," Lu Wan said gently as she sat on the edge of the bed, looking at Shu Huan with warmth.
He took her left hand in both of his, gently rubbing it with concern in his eyes. "I know it's difficult for you to recall that terrifying scene. But to solve this case, we really need you..."
Shu Huan raised her hand, making a "stop" gesture, and leaned closer to Lu Wan's ear to whisper, "How many girls have you used this tactic on?"
Seeing his embarrassed expression, she let out a strange smile and straightened up. "Since you need me to speak, fine, I'll tell you. But you both need to listen carefully; I’ll only say it once."
