Chapter 111: Many Friends
Immediately, mainstream media such as Jiangbei Daily and Jiangcheng Daily began to publish extensive coverage of the leaders attending the Arts Festival, including various levels of officials from higher authorities, guiding units, congratulatory units, co-organizers, sponsors, and special acknowledgments. The television station also broadcasted rolling coverage during prime time.
The atmosphere was charged with excitement.
The Wenyuan County Public Security Bureau and Wenyuan County People's Hospital organized dedicated teams to collaborate with Baliushu for event support. The county government established a temporary command center, with Executive Deputy County Magistrate Wu Youshun serving as the overall commander. Wan Hongcai (Secretary of Baliushu Township), Jian Junzhan (Town Mayor of Baliushu Township), Peng Guoan (Director of Wenyuan County Public Security Bureau), and Chen Caihong (Cultural Director of Wenyuan County) were appointed as deputy commanders, while Qin Chizian took on the role of Chief Coordinator.
Organization Committee Member Feng Siqin, the rarely present Chairman Zhu Linshen, Vice Township Head Hu Jiajin who had been on long-term sick leave, and Propaganda Committee Member Sun Shuan were all assigned specific tasks.
Peng Guoan mobilized all available police forces to Baliushu and established an emergency response center.
On the sixth day of the lunar month, Wan Hongcai and Jian Junzhan were called to the county to report on the preparations for the opening ceremony. At this point, the two officials truly realized the complexity and intricacies involved; there were countless aspects to consider!
Facing an expanded Standing Committee, they reported item by item on various agendas and preparations while fielding questions from the leaders present.
In conclusion, County Party Secretary Li Honghai and County Magistrate Gao Songshan emphasized: "During the Arts Festival, major leaders from all bureaus, committees, and offices must not take breaks or leave. Departments such as Industry and Commerce, Quality Inspection, Health, Public Security, Transportation, Communications, Broadcasting and Television must be on standby 24 hours a day!"
On the seventh day of the lunar month, Wenyuan County Town saw a noticeable increase in visitors from all directions. According to feedback from Baliushu, many local villagers' relatives from outside had arrived early to witness the opening ceremony the next day. The scale of this influx rivaled that of the population migration before the Spring Festival.
Finally, the eighth day of the lunar month arrived.
At eight-thirty, Li Honghai and Gao Songshan welcomed leaders from provincial and municipal levels. The county organized escort vehicles as dozens of Kostner cars set off towards Baliushu. Although many people in Wenyuan County had anticipated this grand event, they were still awestruck upon witnessing it:
Along both sides of the newly constructed rural road stretching for dozens of kilometers from Wenyuan to Baliushu, colorful flags fluttered continuously (all advertising spaces purchased by participating enterprises). Two kilometers away from Baliushu stood inflatable rainbow arches every hundred meters (also rented by some enterprises), adorned with bright red slogans: "XX Seed Industry wishes for the success of the First Wenyuan Woven Art Festival!" "XX Enterprise welcomes guidance from all sectors!" "XX Agricultural Chemicals welcomes your arrival"… Giant colorful balloons swayed in the wind with banners attached.
Leaders from the province shared a Kostner vehicle; Executive Vice Governor Yu Xiaoqing and Qiao Beinen sat together, occasionally whispering to each other. The Vice Governor frequently wore a smile of approval as Qiao Beinen turned to Li Honghai and Gao Songshan beside him: "Not bad; Wenyuan has put in a lot of effort this time!"
Li Honghai and Gao Songshan's faces glowed with excitement.
With just one kilometer left to reach Baliushu's main venue, crowds surged everywhere. Wu Youshun quietly reprimanded Jian Junzhan, who was acting as a guide: "What a mess! Why isn't the road closed?"
Jian Junzhan felt flustered; glancing at the prominent figures in front of him, he weakly replied: "Deputy County Magistrate Wu, this is a welcome ceremony organized spontaneously by the villagers!"
The Vice Governor and Municipal Committee Secretary turned their attention back to Jian Junzhan.
Suppressing his own excitement, Jian Junzhan pulled out a signal gun borrowed from stationed troops and fired three shots into the sky through an open window. As three signal flares soared into the air with whistling sounds, the crowd in the middle of the road quickly parted to reveal the welcoming team.
At the front was a band of young musicians in matching uniforms who played a cheerful rendition of "Welcome Song" under their music teacher's direction.
Reporters from Jiangbei Province Television and Jiangcheng TV Station occupied advantageous positions to record everything.
The convoy slowly passed by, with the leaders continuously waving to those outside the windows, while the villagers on both sides greeted the officials in their local dialect.
Ahead was a drum and gong troupe dressed in performance attire, gathering in the middle of the road to clear the way, with the rhythmic beating of drums and the loud clanging of gongs. As they approached Central Square, several Lion Dance teams emerged to welcome the guests with the most elaborate traditional ceremonies.
Vice Governor Yu was the first to step out of the car, waving his hand while following the dancing lions as they moved forward.
At the back of the crowd, prominently displayed was a mobile communication support vehicle from Immobile Company, its position eye-catching with a powerful slogan: "Wherever you are, there is Immobile!"
Blue Sky Petroleum organized a large fleet of multifunctional buses, promoting their slogan "Go Wenyuan, Blue Sky Travels Together," and specially set up a resting area for media friends, providing tea, writing tables, and charging services.
Wenyuan Lidu directly brought in shuttle buses to transport guests for free: "When you come to Wenyuan, Wenyuan Lidu is your home!" Its location also strategically controlled a key area.
Even though the leaders had seen grand events before, they were still amazed by this activity organized in such a remote township.
Around the central venue, there were at least ten drum and gong teams and Lion Dance troupes performing. Further out was a circular exhibition area centered around Central Square, featuring a variety of exhibitors. Particularly striking were the numerous festive goods on display; at a glance, there seemed to be no vacant booths.
Colorful advertising materials from all directions adorned the entire venue.
The outermost circle was a "Free Trade Zone" spontaneously organized by the villagers. Each household displayed items they believed could be sold: cured meats, local honey, specialty snacks, tiger-head shoes, and coarse cloth...
Strangely enough, despite being labeled as part of the Woven Art Festival, there were no exhibition halls or booths dedicated to rattan weaving.
Jian Junzhan stepped forward to introduce to the leaders: The stage was surrounded by baskets filled with artificial flowers, all crafted by the villagers' hands using exquisite rattan weaving techniques. The tables and chairs placed at the front of the venue were also made from rattan weaving products, including many elements of rattan weaving in the overall backstage setup.
It must be said that this creative approach felt much more comfortable than simply displaying physical items.
Vice Governor Yu asked, "How many people are expected to attend today?"
Wan Hongcai replied, "Report to you, sir. After rough calculations, it should exceed 150,000!"
At exactly ten o'clock, County Magistrate Gao Song-shan announced: "The First Wenyuan Woven Art Festival is now open!"
The sound of booming cannons echoed around the venue...
Baliushu organized three-barreled guns typically used for rural celebrations; the continuous cannon fire lasted for three full minutes before finally subsiding.
Li Honghai delivered a welcome speech.
Vice Governor Yu gave an important address.
After each leader finished speaking, the drum and gong troupe would cheerfully play again, encouraging applause and cheers from the surrounding crowd.
Next came special guests on stage. A representative from Immobile Company announced: "We are donating 2.5 million yuan to Wenyuan for constructing a permanent steel-concrete bridge over Hunjiang River!"
As soon as he finished speaking, applause and cheers erupted from Wenyuan and Wendong villagers below like a tidal wave. This not only moved the leaders from Baliushu Township but also touched all levels of officials on stage. Vice Governor Yu led everyone in shaking hands with Immobile's representatives in gratitude mixed with encouragement.
An elderly representative from Bayuliu Village, over eighty years old yet still speaking clearly, was helped onto the stage. He spoke in the local dialect, "When I was a child, I had friends who drowned while crossing the river. Now, Immobile has built a bridge for us, and we villagers will always remember this kindness!"
Wan Hongcai announced, "This bridge will be named 'Immobile Lianxin Bridge!'"
Manager Bian from Wenyuan Lidu, along with the young mother who had lost her sanity after her child drowned, was invited onto the stage. Manager Bian stated, "Our home is in the south, but Wenyuan is where we started our business. We appreciate the beauty here and feel the pain as our own! Wenyuan Lidu is willing to provide medical funding services to this mother who has lost her child!"
Leaders at all levels led the applause.
The villagers erupted into cheers and applause once again.
Without any greeting, Central Mother Seven Sets surprisingly also arrived.
