Office of the Deputy Minister of the Ministry of State Security
An elderly man and a young man sat facing each other.
"Try this, I specially prepared some Cloud Mist Tea tips. I managed to get it from those high-ranking officials," the elder said with a hearty laugh, exuding a mix of military boldness and scholarly composure. He waved his hand to send his assistant out and personally poured a cup of tea for Ji Yuan, filling it to the brim.
In an instant, the entire office was filled with a fragrant aroma that wafted through the air. Ji Yuan felt both honored and nervous, stammering, "You..."
Given the elder's status, there were very few people in the world who could be served tea by him personally.
"Don't be nervous; just think of me as an elder chatting with you," the elder said, gently patting Ji Yuan's shoulder with a kind expression and a soothing tone.
Ji Yuan managed to suppress his excitement, took a sip, and couldn't help but exclaim, "This is great tea!"
The elder looked at him with the same curiosity one might have when seeing a giant panda. "I've heard about you many times and seen you on screen, but I still can't believe... you are so young."
The Deputy Minister of National Security clicked his tongue in amazement.
Ji Yuan smiled modestly, "It's mainly due to good luck. The chip project succeeded because everyone worked together and put in their best effort. If it were just me alone, I might still be working on it forever without success."
There was truth in his words, but more than that, he was being humble.
He had a vague feeling that as his knowledge expanded and he actively delved into various subjects, his intelligence seemed to be increasing, and his intuition was becoming sharper.
Do not underestimate intuition, that elusive quality; often, it is the key element leading to success. The old man saw through it but did not speak of it, his eyes revealing unhidden admiration.
As the Deputy Minister of the National Security Department, the old man had encountered countless research geniuses, among whom Ji Yuan stood out as the most accomplished and the only one who maintained a humble and innocent heart.
This is rarer than talent!
In the Eastern superpower with a population of over a billion, many 'monsters' and 'geniuses' emerge every year. In other words, the Eastern superpower is never short of talent; what it lacks are geniuses who can continuously produce research results.
However, these so-called geniuses, aside from their exceptional talents in research, are often utterly terrible in other aspects!
There are even a few who, having grown up surrounded by praise and flattery, become arrogant after achieving some success, acting as if they are the greatest in the world and looking at others with disdain as if they were 'trash'.
Those with poor character, no matter how talented they are, find it difficult to go far on the path of research.
Ji Yuan was unaware that this often elusive Deputy Minister had thought so much in an instant.
"Leader, did you call me here just for this?"
The tea was almost finished, yet no one spoke about the main topic.
"Not exactly, I just wanted to chat with you a bit more."
The old man smiled as he opened the drawer and took out a document for Ji Yuan to see.
"At the end of this month, America will hold a national cutting-edge research Exhibition, where over a hundred countries and regions from around the world will showcase their best innovations.
In the past, we adhered to a strategy of keeping a low profile, naturally following the principle of hiding our strengths and biding our time to avoid drawing too much attention and becoming targets.
However, this time, the higher-ups believe we no longer need to hide. You should select a few elites to lead the team over there and engage with those Western innovations, letting them see what level we have truly reached!"
Subtly, the old man's tone was like warhorses neighing, each word seemed to carry the sharpness of blades.
Ji Yuan stood up from his seat, unable to contain his excitement.
The country had finally decided to take this step; even knowing that once taken, there would be no turning back, he was resolute.
Enduring would never earn respect; retreating would only encourage others to take more ground until there was nothing left to give!
As Ji Yuan learned more about the research endeavors of the great Eastern nation, his understanding of its strength became increasingly comprehensive.
It was true that the great Eastern nation had its shortcomings in certain areas, but which country could advance equally in all fields of research?
All along, the great Eastern nation had been striving with its own strength.
Motivating oneself to catch up with the advantages of various major powers in all fields.
The nation must compare its welfare with that of America, its social benefits with those of the Nordic countries, its environmental standards with Canada, its machinery with Germany, its smartphones with Apple, its technology with IBM, its Great Wall with General Motors, its Loongson processors with Intel, and its C919 aircraft with Boeing...
A country's manufacturing versus the entire world's high-end capabilities!
This is ambition!
If we are to do it, we must strive to be World’s Number One!
Even if we may not reach that point immediately, all these areas where strong nations excel are the targets for the Eastern power to pursue.
It is important to note that the Eastern power has only existed for a few decades but has already surpassed many fields and has almost universally earned the affectionate title of "Developed Country Crusher" around the world.
At this moment, the Eastern power possesses the strength to respond to all provocations and has the confidence to stand proudly among the nations of the world!
Just as the saying goes, "When patience runs out, there is no need to endure any longer." Since there is no willingness to give the Eastern power more time to remain low-key, it might as well showcase its strengths and let the world see the results of its years of quiet development, so they won't hold onto their unrealistic hopes!
