Time flies, and the large tree in the yard has slowly begun to sprout green leaves. However, after checking the weather forecast, Jiang Yizhou still felt quite miserable. A sandstorm—this meteorological term was rather unfamiliar to Jiang Yizhou, who had only started attending university after 2008 in his previous life.
In contrast, the tender green leaves on the tree seemed rather insignificant. Jiang Yizhou found a mask in the cupboard and put it on, then topped it off with a large hat. He hopped onto the cheap bicycle he had just bought from the market and rode toward the street where the Training Class was located.
The bicycle was likely stolen; although it looked new, it had some signs of repair. However, he didn't mind much since it was quite inexpensive. In this day and age, there were hardly any surveillance cameras, and no one would go to great lengths over a bicycle. Besides, if someone were to be caught, it would be for stealing a bike, and he knew nothing about that—he had simply bought a bicycle.
"Ding ding... ding ding..." He kept ringing the bell on the handlebars to alert pedestrians ahead. The street he was passing through had few motor vehicles; instead, there were many bicycles and pedestrians coming and going. There were also numerous vendors doing business, making it easy for crowds to gather on the road and narrow the passageway, much like cars parked in bike lanes in later years.
"Stop right there! Thief!" Suddenly, Jiang Yizhou heard a girl shouting from behind. Well, it had nothing to do with him; he continued to weave through the gathering crowd, turning left and right.
Huh? Why can't I move? Could the chain be stuck?
Jiang Yizhou suddenly felt that his bike had come to a halt. He turned his head back to check what was wrong with it, only to see a girl with a fierce expression glaring at him. "Thief!"
Glancing at the crowd of onlookers murmuring around them, Jiang Yizhou suggested after locking eyes with the girl for a moment, "Why don't we step aside first? Blocking the road isn't good for anyone, right?"
"Hmph!" Feeling the girl's strength was considerable, Jiang Yizhou reluctantly kept his distance and maneuvered his bike to the side of the road.
"Excuse me, miss, I have a few questions. Do you have any evidence that this bike is yours? And even if you prove it's yours, how can you prove that I stole it?"
What bad luck! He initially thought buying a bicycle wouldn't lead to such misfortune. Yet here he was facing this situation; Jiang Yizhou felt that his luck was indeed quite poor.
Ding Zhengnan pointed at a hidden "Zheng" character carved into a post behind the bike basket. "My name is Ding Zhengnan; I carved this!"
"That's really a Seqin bicycle! You truly have talent..." Jiang Yizhou couldn't help but think of that shared bike in the future, full of 'righteousness.' What a coincidence!
But then again, it's understandable. People in this era don't really know much about the chaotic things that came from RB—what's 'righteous' writing, whips, candles—only a few capable and interested individuals would bother to understand.
"What talent? It's just carving some words, right? If you don't carve 'righteous,' are you going to carve 'man' instead?" Ding Zhengnan said this with some resentment; the name clearly carried a special meaning, and she probably didn't like it very much.
"But what about the second issue? I'm not a thief; I bought this with my hard-earned money. I'm just an unsuspecting passerby. If you want to recover your losses, you should go find the thief!"
"I don't care. You're riding my bike; you're a thief!" Ding Zhengnan stubbornly held onto the righteous bicycle without offering any reasonable arguments.
"Come on, look at this. The bike has a license plate; you carved 'righteous' as your initials. I carved it later to flaunt righteousness!" Jiang Yizhou was starting to get annoyed. Although she was pretty and he had chatted with her a bit, it didn't mean he had to be so entangled.
When he bought the bike at the market, the boss had mentioned getting a license plate. Jiang Yizhou looked into it and thought it was quite reliable, so he went ahead and got one.
"Let go; you're delaying me from getting to work!" Jiang Yizhou held the bicycle firmly while trying to pry her hand off. Strength? That depended on who he was comparing with!
Riding his bike at a leisurely pace, Jiang Yizhou glanced back and suddenly felt quite immoral. If one didn't listen to the content, he would definitely seem like a heartless man! He had made the girl cry like a rain-soaked pear blossom while he left coldly—what kind of situation was that?
However, after a while, Jiang Yizhou no longer felt that way.
The girl squatted on the ground and shed a few tears before immediately sprinting after him. Although she couldn't catch up, she followed closely behind.
Because there were many people on this street, even if he wanted to shake her off, he couldn't.
"I'm not leaving! This is my bike, and if you don't give it back to me, I'm going to follow you wherever you go until you return it!"
"Who do you think you are? Do you think this is a comic book? That you can save the world with just some words? That a few clever lines can make the villain repent and sacrifice themselves? You're so cute that I almost want to hit you, do you know that?"
While Jiang Yizhou was internally ranting, he could only try to maintain his composure. There weren't many people as genuinely cute as her at this age; he needed to protect this rare species and not act foolishly like her!
"Hey, what are you two doing? Don't you know this is dangerous? Pulling someone's bike on the street like this—what if something happens?" The Traffic Police officer saw the two of them causing a scene in the middle of the road and approached them professionally, stopping their "dangerous driving."
Jiang Yizhou listened to the reprimand nonchalantly, while Ding Zhengnan stood there with his mouth open, ready to explain the situation about the stolen bike. However, the Traffic Police officer was clearly busy and didn't have time for that.
"You two... are a couple, right?" It was a statement rather than a question. "If you're having an argument, don't bring it out onto the street. You can fight all you want at home. Do you understand? If something happens, you'll regret it for the rest of your life!"
"Do you have your bike registration?" The officer leaned in to take a look; the license plate and stamp were all in order. He accepted the registration that Jiang Yizhou handed over and nodded, noting that everything was in order. "This time I won't fine you. Just ride properly now. And you," he pointed at Ding Zhengnan, "sit tight and hurry up!"
Watching the somewhat dazed girl sit on the back seat, they rode their bike across the street. The Traffic Police officer returned to his post satisfied. Although sitting on the back seat wasn't allowed, no one really followed that rule anyway, and he couldn't be bothered to enforce it.
"See? Even the Traffic Police only recognize my license plate and registration. So don't waste your effort!" Jiang Yizhou swayed left and right, making the girl hold onto his waist as he smugly teased her.
