After the morning reading class, Guoguo went to see the homeroom teacher without bringing Han Min and Guo Jingjing along.
Knocking on the door and entering the homeroom teacher's office, she asked, "Teacher Liu, can I skip evening study sessions?"
As the homeroom teacher of Class One, Grade Ten, Liu Ming naturally knew that there was a talented student in his class, and that student was the girl in front of him—Tang Guoguo. "Even if your family is in a difficult situation, that’s a responsibility your parents should bear. You are still a child; your task is to study well. I cannot agree to let you skip evening study to work."
When Guoguo heard those last words, her eyes became moist as she choked out, "My mom passed away from heart disease a while ago, and my dad..."
Guoguo didn't want to use her misfortune to gain anyone's sympathy, but now if she didn't speak honestly, Teacher Liu Ming would not agree to let her skip evening study.
Liu Ming listened quietly to Guoguo and realized that the student who had ranked first in the city with full marks in the entrance exam had faced such misfortune.
After Guoguo finished speaking, Liu Ming pondered for a long time before saying, "Since you've completed all the sophomore courses, you still have no proof to show that you have done so. How about this: I'll give you a comprehensive exam paper covering two semesters of sophomore material. If you get 90 questions correct, I will agree to let you skip evening study sessions from now on."
Guoguo was overjoyed and nodded with tears in his eyes, saying, "I won't let the teacher down."
The so-called comprehensive exam paper is a test that combines subjects such as Chinese, Mathematics, and English.
