Han Min pushed the wheelchair, walking in front of and behind Guo Jingjing as they exited One Ward, making their way down a long corridor and stopping on a tree-lined path.
The lush trees blocked most of the scorching sunlight, and the cicadas lazily sang from the branches. A gentle breeze swept through, instantly lifting Guoguo's spirits.
Guoguo closed her eyes, opened her arms, tilted her head back, and through the leaves, she saw the dappled sunlight filtering through. Feeling the warmth of the sun, she confirmed that she was alive, truly alive under this blue sky: "Min, Jingjing, do you two feel a vibrant breath of life?"
Han Min and Guo Jingjing exchanged glances and shook their heads in confusion: "No, we don't feel anything."
"You really lack sensitivity. Come on, close your eyes like I do." Guoguo commanded angrily, "Take a deep breath and listen quietly."
As a patient, Guoguo had them follow her lead. Han Min and Guo Jingjing closed their eyes, took deep breaths, and calmed themselves to listen intently.
"Do you hear it? The wind is blowing, the leaves rustle in response to the breeze, and there's the lazy song of the resilient cicadas." Guoguo suddenly felt that at this moment, she seemed to merge with the earth, listening to all the sounds of nature. "Everything becomes so beautiful and vibrant under the sunlight."
Under Guoguo's guidance, Han Min and Guo Jingjing seemed to feel and hear what Guoguo described—the rustling leaves stirred by the wind and the lazy song of the resilient cicadas, along with the intangible warmth of the sunlight.
Han Min and Guo Jingjing also felt an unprecedented sense of ease.
"I heard it too; I felt it. It's the sound of the wind and the rustling of leaves touching each other," Han Min seemed to merge with the earth as well.
"I heard it and felt it too," Guo Jingjing said joyfully without opening her eyes.
After a long while, Guoguo finally opened her eyes, as if her mind had matured a year; her youthful face now bore a hint of determination.
Soon after, Han Min and Guo Jingjing also opened their eyes.
"Guoguo, thank you. You have taken me and Jingjing on a wonderful auditory journey." In these brief moments, Han Min's mind seemed to have grown significantly.
