Fortunately, in the innermost room, Daniel saw five apprentices nervously huddled on the bed, trembling.
Upon seeing him enter, the apprentice in the middle pointed a finger.
Daniel sensed something was wrong and quickly ducked down, feeling a sharp pain on his head. Turning around, he saw a mass of green slime appearing on the opposite cabin wall, sizzling and quickly corroding a hole. If he had been a moment late in ducking, the wall would have been his fate.
Daniel was filled with dread and cold sweat began to trickle down. He hurriedly said, "Don't shoot! I'm an apprentice from the Okto Archipelago."
The apprentice in the middle asked, "Why aren't you up front fighting? Why come here? Do you want to capture us to earn merit?"
"The instructor was ambushed by that damned Blood Thunder Academy, and there’s no one in charge on the ship. So I came to ask you all to take command. Without the instructor, no one has the authority to lead us; we can't hold them off at all."
A girl who had been trembling in fear raised her head proudly and said, "What do you mean? We are noble Wizard Apprentices, awakened with bloodlines destined to become wizards in the future.
Let us go fight. How could you even think of that? What if we get hurt?"
No matter how much Daniel pleaded, they refused to agree.
Daniel gritted his teeth in frustration; he realized these people were cowardly. Aside from the calm apprentice in the middle, the others were already scared stiff. Relying on them to agree was like hoping a sow could climb a tree.
He stared at the apprentice in the middle and asked, "Senior, what do you think? Are you really going to hide here? No matter how strong the defense is, it can be breached. Besides, with no one leading us apprentices right now, it will only take a moment for them to break through."
After thinking for a moment, the middle apprentice said, "I'll go with you. You can call me Jim."
Jim? Daniel recalled that he had just heard about this apprentice from Blood Thunder Academy who possessed the Dark Gift. He didn't expect it would be him.
Looking at the few apprentices who still refused to move, Daniel gritted his teeth and punched Regina in the stomach. He then drew his sword and pointed it at the four of them, saying, "Today, whether you want to go or not, you have to go."
"Don't worry, no one will attack you. That wizard just now was trying to make you his apprentices. No one wants to offend a future senior, right? Don't forget your talents are so high; if you really offend you, they won't have it easy in the future either."
Despite his words, the group still didn't want to move. They were exceptionally gifted and had always received the best treatment; they had never experienced anything like this and were already scared out of their wits.
Daniel saw this and gritted his teeth, saying, "Whoever dares not to go, I will kill him right here. You can choose—do you want to die now or later?"
The others exchanged glances, unsure of what had gotten into Daniel.
Daniel didn't want it to come to this. Normally, whether it was the mentor, Cecil, or Baron present, they could command the apprentices and bring out their maximum combat potential.
Now, trying to gather them was a last resort. If he couldn't even assemble enough people, how could he rally the apprentices to resist? Surrendering would be easier.
With no other choice, they reluctantly agreed. Jim glanced at him and took the lead.
Daniel sighed in relief; he was truly afraid that they would rather die than agree. Despite his fierce demeanor, he didn't dare do anything to them. If they won, it wouldn't benefit him at all; instead, he would be blamed by the mentor.
He whispered to Jim, "Senior, have you ever commanded in battle?"
Jim shook his head. "No. What should we do?"
Daniel gritted his teeth and said, "Alright then, I'll command the battle. You just need to pretend to give orders."
Although he had never commanded a battle before, he had seen enough war movies in his past life. At a critical moment, he had no choice but to step up.
Jim nodded.
As long as he encountered an apprentice on the road, Daniel would whip them without hesitation, shouting, "Don't run around, follow the senior. Anyone who disobeys will be killed. This is the senior's order."
The other party glared at him angrily. However, upon seeing the five people behind Daniel, especially Jim, who exuded an air of authority and had a fierce look in his eyes, they dared not oppose him.
Although they came from different places and did not know each other, they recognized Jim and his five companions as apprentices of their mentor. Faced with them, they had no courage to resist.
When they reached the deck, dozens of people had already gathered. Daniel glanced around, and the entire scene instantly imprinted in his mind.
The situation was very unfavorable for them. Due to the hasty engagement, they had no preparation at all and were being pushed back repeatedly. If the other side were truly fighting instead of capturing apprentices, they would have been wiped out long ago.
Even so, dozens had been captured and were being thrown onto the deck, being transported to the opposing ship.
Daniel quietly approached Jim and said, "Senior, what was that spell you used against me earlier? I need to use it again later."
Jim's expression was very grim. "Alright, I can only use it once more. My magic power is insufficient."
Daniel acknowledged this; once was enough. He then asked the people behind him, "Did you bring the fishing nets?"
Earlier, he had borrowed Jim's authority to command a few apprentices to find fishing nets. The few of them were already pale with fear but still raised the nets in their hands.
Daniel took them. "Alright, when I throw out the net later, you all rush in and knock out their people. Remember, don't hold back; hit them hard. If you kill someone, the senior will take responsibility for you."
Jim and the others twitched their mouths but said nothing. What did it mean that the senior would take responsibility? When had he ever said that?
Daniel gestured from the side, and several people shouted loudly, "The senior is here! The senior is here! We are saved!"
The people on both boats turned to look at Daniel and his group. Upon seeing Jim and the others standing tall in the cabin, the morale of those on the boat surged, and they couldn't help but cheer.
Jim and his companions often stayed with their mentor. Now that the boat was leaderless, they instinctively regarded them as leaders when someone shouted.
The people on the opposite boat looked somewhat grim. A clearly designated leader shouted, "Don't be afraid; they are just apprentices now. What difference does it make? Without any sorcery, I can take on two of them at once. Brothers, charge with me! We must capture them and not forget the rewards promised by our mentor."
Upon hearing this, everyone snapped back to reality and prepared to continue fighting.
"Annoying," Daniel remarked with a hint of arrogance as he gestured. Jim pointed a finger, and a foul-smelling liquid splashed onto the leader's arm.
Instantly, it was as if sulfuric acid had been thrown on him; his entire arm began to bubble and corrode.
"Ah!" he cried out in pain, rolling on the ground.
Both sides trembled at this scene; no one wanted to face such a fate. Many had never encountered sorcery up close before, so how could they not be afraid?
"Kill them! Drive them away!" Daniel seized the opportunity to shout.
This diverted both sides' attention, preventing them from noticing that Jim's face had turned pale as paper; that last attack had drained all his magical power.
However, with fresh reinforcements on board, their morale soared as they fought fiercely against the opponent. Daniel found a spot where the enemy was clustered together and threw down a fishing net, ensnaring over a dozen of them who struggled to break free.
Taking advantage of this moment, he led his group to fiercely attack, hacking and slashing at their opponents until they surrendered and squatted inside the net, too afraid to move.
Several fishing nets were thrown over, and the power dynamics shifted. Seeing the situation was dire, the opposing side hurriedly abandoned their captives and rushed back to their ship. Daniel quickly directed the collection of prisoners and released the captured apprentices.
After a flurry of activity, Furnal ran over, followed by several others who were excitedly waving their weapons and said, "Daniel, why don't we charge over and give them a good lesson?"
Daniel looked at the opponents who had not yet escaped and shook his head, saying, "No, we will wait here for them to come at us."
"How do you know they will come? What if they run away? We would have suffered for nothing," Furnal questioned.
"Think about how long it has been since they returned. Since they haven't left yet, it means they are planning a counterattack. Their mentor is likely thinking about capturing our senior apprentices. As a result, they have lost dozens of their own. How can they explain this to their mentor?"
The others considered this and agreed, quickly dispatching personnel to block the deck and wait for the opponents to approach.
Blood Thunder Academy was furious. The reason they had not fled until now was that they hoped the Flame Throne people would attack them. Now seeing the situation, they could only grit their teeth and counterattack.
However, the two vessels were connected by several wooden planks, making it difficult to pass through such a narrow space quickly. Under Daniel's command, they captured several dozen more of their opponents. Frustrated, they jumped up and down but found themselves powerless.
