Kong Se slowly regained consciousness and looked up at the man. "It was you who saved me back then, wasn't it?"
Qian Dai smiled faintly and said, "You remember now."
"Yes, I remember."
"Kong Se, do you want to return to Tang Yan's side?"
Kong Se remained silent, her gaze fixed on Qian Dai, filled with pleading.
"Do you know why I saved you back then?"
"I am but a faint ink in your writings."
"Do you know how I saved you? The Qilin of Changnan Palace told me that if I could make you give up your obsession with Tang Yan and cultivate goodness, it would spare your life as a form of atonement."
"What if I don't?"
"What if you don't?" Qian Dai smiled bitterly. "If not, it instructed me to collect your remains on the fifteenth of July. Even so, are you still willing to go to him?"
Kong Se calculated in her mind; there were only two days left until the fifteenth of July.
That means the day after tomorrow. Did she really only have two days left?
On the night of the fifteenth of July, not only would the gates of hell swing wide open, but it was also the day of calamity for their group of little demons. Under the influence of the moonlight, Taotie would awaken that night, and it would devour all spirits it encountered until dawn.
"In two days, Kong Se, even if you can escape Taotie, how will you evade Qilin?"
The rain outside fell in a gentle patter, and Qian Dai appeared quite weary. "If you have made up your mind, come find me early tomorrow morning; we still have time to leave."
On the fourteenth day of the seventh lunar month, the calendar indicated it was a good day for travel, prayer, and sacrifices.
Qian Dai wore a thin white garment and stood from dawn until midnight.
In the cold alley, she stood alone, like a white flower blooming in the night.
Finally, she couldn't help but lean her forehead on her hand and chuckle softly, "I should have known, Kong Se, you wouldn't come."
As her words fell, a wave of water spread across her icy palm, as if the sorrow deep within her heart had transformed into tears.
Meanwhile, Kong Se returned to Tang Manor.
She walked quietly through the familiar corridor of her past, surveying the place where she once lived.
Every detail reminded her of bits and pieces of the past, but now everything had changed.
Eventually, she arrived at Tang Yan's residence.
Pushing open the door, she saw Tang Yan casually leaning against the Couch, flipping through a random book as usual.
Kong Se stood quietly in the corner, gazing at him as if time had frozen.
Of course, she did not need to worry about being discovered.
As long as she did not wish for others to see her, they would never be aware of her existence.
She stood there alone, softly murmuring, "I want to stay by your side for a long time, but things never go as desired; in the end, you don't even like me anymore."
She paused and forced a faint smile. "You actually don't like me, do you? You only keep me around because you think I'm a decent companion. But now, I can't even be that."
Kong Se looked on with a sorrowful gaze.
Tang Yan seemed to sense something and glanced in Kong Se's direction, but there was nothing there except for a banana plant.
On the rainy night of July 15th, the hibiscus bloomed beautifully under the raindrops. A gasp came from the storeroom; it turned out that the Porcelain Beauty stored inside had suddenly lost all its luster and became an ordinary clay figurine, devoid of any spirit. Yet, if one looked closely at the corners of its eyes, there was still a hint of crimson.
At some point, rumors began to spread in Changnan Neighborhood that the treasured heirloom of the Tang family had turned into a lump of clay overnight.
There were also rumors that on the same day, a beauty who belonged to the son of the Tang family had quietly vanished, just as silently as she had arrived.
Some onlookers mocked lightly while others sighed softly in sympathy.
Indeed, by now, the beauty was gone.
