The vision of Zombie King gradually blurred, and he no longer had the desire to continue fighting. He simply held tightly onto the spiked chain, pulling it towards himself with muscle memory—he wasn't even using much strength.
Madwoman was completely immobilized, only able to watch as she was slowly dragged closer. She pulled with all her might while glancing back at Blue Face Hero. "Hurry—"
This scream, sharp enough to cut through the air, startled both the living and the dead, instantly waking Zombie King from his daze.
"This isn't her!" As Zombie King's awareness returned, he looked at the nearly furious red-haired woman in front of him and found it somewhat amusing. He suddenly yanked the chain, causing Madwoman to feel a sharp pain in her wrist—her Chain Spear was fused with her flesh—before she was dragged forward. As Zombie King pulled her closer, he raised his other fist.
Seeing herself getting nearer to Zombie King, Madwoman hurriedly extended her palm to catch his punch—
"Bang!"
A crisp sound erupted as their fists collided, and Madwoman felt her entire arm go numb in an instant. Immediately afterward, pain tore through her arm like a ferocious beast. Unable to hold back, she let out a scream and withdrew her hand, trying to cover her arm, but unfortunately, the chain in her other hand was still being pulled by Zombie King.
Regardless, Madwoman had actually taken a punch from Zombie King.
Among the Defenders, Divine Fist Qin Weishan had the strongest explosive power, while Ancient Titan Aibo possessed the greatest strength. In terms of power, explosive force, and even speed, Zombie King matched them and likely did not fall short of these two Defenders. Miao Chengmin was the chosen envoy of Chaos Crystals and the elder brother of the sentient zombie; although he hadn't fought against the Defenders for long, his strength was already evident.
All of this was analyzed and observed by Blue Face Hero.
Zombie King did not intend to exhaust himself against Madwoman; he released his grip on the chain and grabbed Madwoman, who was still writhing in pain.
He noticed Blue Face Hero aiming at him.
Blue Face Hero had already raised his modified cutting launcher and seemed to have pulled the trigger.
Without hesitation, Zombie King grabbed one of Madwoman's legs and one of her arms, using her as a human shield!
"You forced my hand!" Zombie King sighed as he awaited the sound of Madwoman's body being torn apart. He didn't want to kill anyone, but that didn't mean Zombie King would protect others' lives without consequence—he had to ensure his own survival first; this universe still needed him.
Madwoman's eyes widened in terror as fear consumed her heart; it felt like her pulse had stopped.
"Whoosh—"
A disc trailing purple flew past Zombie King and Madwoman—barely grazing Madwoman's scalp.
Blue Face Hero lowered his gun and suddenly swayed slightly. He was so tense that he began to hallucinate about Madwoman being hit. If his reaction had been any slower or if he had pulled the trigger just a moment sooner, Madwoman might have lost her life.
Although Madwoman had strong self-healing abilities, Blue Face Hero still dared not joke with a teammate's life.
Thanks to Blue Face Hero's quick thinking; if it had been someone else, they probably wouldn't have reacted in time.
Seeing that Blue Face Hero had intentionally shot off-target with his disc made Zombie King aware of how difficult that maneuver was. Reflecting on their previous encounters, he couldn't help but feel a bit of admiration for this azure figure. Zombie King tossed aside Madwoman and noticed the Chaos Crystals lying on the ground behind Blue Face Hero; his expression immediately darkened.
"You and I are both heroes; there's no need for us to fight," said the Zombie King.
"Stop talking. I know what you want from behind me," replied the Blue Face Hero, activating his Particle Shield and preparing to defend himself.
With a sudden leap, the Zombie King soared into the air, attempting to bypass the Blue Face Hero to seize the Chaos Crystals. The Blue Face Hero rolled backward, raising his shield to protect the Chaos Crystals behind him.
"Ugh!" The Zombie King grasped a Chaos Sphere as a black ray descended from above, striking the Blue Face Hero's shield with precision. At first, the Blue Face Hero was able to withstand it, but he soon realized that the Particle Shield was struggling to hold up; it seemed as if something was consuming it.
"Reflect Cosmic Energy!" The Blue Face Hero suddenly understood—his third-tier Particle Shield could withstand all forms of matter, and whatever was eroding it was no ordinary force. If this continued, he would likely be consumed as well...
"We need to think of a way out!" Nars said to Liu Xuan.
Liu Xuan was completely dazed, watching cracks gradually appear on the Particle Shield. All he could manage to say was, "Run."
But escape was impossible. No matter how quick the Blue Face Hero reacted, there was no dodging the shockwave that had already been fired at near-light speed.
However, just when the Blue Face Hero felt hopeless, he noticed that the pressure on his shield was inexplicably lightening—could it be...?
The shockwave dissipated like water flowing away from a source, slowly fading into nothingness.
In disbelief, the Blue Face Hero lowered his Particle Shield. As soon as he did, it shattered like broken glass, pieces scattering across the ground. The particle generator on his wrist continued to spark and fizz—it had already overloaded.
The Zombie King withdrew his hand, floating in midair without any further action, simply staring at the Blue Face Hero with his hollow eye sockets.
In life, Miao Chengmin often spoke harshly, but when it came down to action, everyone could see that he had a heart of gold beneath his tough exterior. Even now as a zombie, he still radiated a glimmer of humanity. He only wanted to reclaim the Chaos Crystals—that was all. Miao Chengmin felt that perhaps these humans viewed him as a villain; however, if they cooperated with him in their investigation—he still wished to return to his kind—though that seemed unlikely now.
"Could you...?" The Blue Face Hero hoped that the Zombie King might descend so there could be room for negotiation.
But before he could finish his sentence, the Zombie King felt a chill at his back. Instinctively turning around—
"Szzzz!"
The sound of flesh being pierced by a sword echoed from above. The Zombie King looked down to see a battle sword embedded in his abdomen. When he raised his gaze again, he saw an armored figure showing no signs of stopping as he slammed him down onto the ground! The Zombie King found himself pinned by the battle sword and unable to move. Fierce Eagle stood before him, raising a miniature missile aimed directly at him.
The Blue Face Hero wanted to stop Fierce Eagle but hesitated and ultimately held back his words. It had been his plan all along for Fierce Eagle to retrieve the battle sword while he kept the Zombie King occupied for this very ambush.
"As long as you agree, Nars and Liu Xuan, I'll blow this ugly creature into bits right now," Fierce Eagle said while looking at the Blue Face Hero.
At that moment, Nightmarish and Madwoman—both recently sent flying by the Zombie King's strike—approached along with other standing members of the guard team who surrounded the Zombie King.
Zombie King struggled a couple of times, trying to grab the sword's hilt to pull it out, but Fierce Eagle firmly held his wrist.
"You guys, haha..." Zombie King thought that this group of humans was like a bunch of naive kids who had never seen the world, always wanting to call him king, unaware that their future was already...
Nightmare shot directly at his head and said, "Shut up, although I know my bullets are useless against you."
"Step aside, thank you."
Blue Face Hero walked in from outside the encirclement of the guards. He patted Fierce Eagle, signaling him to let go. Fierce Eagle hesitated for a moment before slowly releasing his grip on Zombie King's wrist.
Just when everyone thought Nars was going to deal with this monster himself, no one expected him to pull Fierce Eagle's battle sword out and hand it back to him in front of everyone's astonished eyes.
"You are a good person." Nars once again extended his hand towards Miao Chengmin.
"Nars!" An Xiaotian was taken aback for a moment and then grabbed his shoulder, "What are you doing?!"
However, Nars seemed to hear nothing and continued to smile at Miao Chengmin, opening his palm.
Miao Chengmin still lay there, refusing to look at Nars. After a long while, he suddenly burst into laughter: "Hahaha, fine, insulting me this way, huh? I'm not falling for this; hurry up and kill me, so your eyes won't have to suffer."
Without needing Miao Chengmin to say anything, Nars certainly knew how to deal with him; all it would take was a slice from the launcher across his neck.
But he didn't do that. Instead, Nars squatted down and opened the tier-three weapon cache in front of everyone, taking out the Chaos Crystals.
"Here you go."
Without a moment's hesitation, Nars stuffed the Chaos Crystals into Miao Chengmin's arms.
How could Lu Sha, with her fiery temper, let this slide? This was their hard-earned treasure. She stepped forward to snatch it back but was stopped by Jiao An.
"Sister!" Lu Sha shook off Jiao An's arm and glared at her.
"Just watch; Nars must have something in mind," Jiao An whispered. "Maybe this guy isn't so bad."
But it was too quiet around them; in fact, everyone could hear those words. Miao Chengmin sneered: "I wasn't a bad... soul to begin with. To be honest, if you want to survive, you'll need me."
"What do you think you are?!" As soon as Lu Sha heard this, her anger flared up immediately as she gripped her Chain spear. Seeing this, An Xiaotian quickly stepped forward and pulled her back before she could charge at him. They exchanged glances; seeing that even the captain was trying to stop her and considering that it was her brother whom she had some feelings for, she had no choice but to relent.
Miao Chengmin, trembling as he touched the Chaos Crystals, let out a deep sigh.
