General Jiang lightly patted his thigh and said, "Join forces with them?"
"Captain?" Qin Weishan deliberately raised an eyebrow at An Xiaotian.
An Xiaotian turned around and smiled, "What do you think? I really want to celebrate this opportunity with a glass of whiskey. Although I can only drink cocktails so far."
An Xiaotian's humorous tone stirred ripples in the room, and everyone was gradually infected by his optimistic attitude, revealing smiles.
General Jiang glanced at his watch, took a breath, and said, "It's getting late, Celestial Warriors. If you want to continue chatting, feel free. I still need to visit Mayor Tan Long."
"Busy man, Uncle," Lu Sha teased playfully, flipping her beautiful red hair to the right side of her face, looking quite spirited—Lu Sha was becoming more like Jiao An.
"Being a general isn't as easy as you think, young lady," General Jiang said slowly as he stood up and walked toward the door. Just as he opened the door, he suddenly remembered something and turned back to Qin Weishan, saying, "Make sure to rest well. Let Jiao An serve you tea or something." After saying that, he left.
"Oh dear," Jiao An laughed, slapping her forehead with one hand.
"Hey now, she's my senior; how could I dare?" Qin Weishan tapped the chair with his hands. Just as Jiao An was about to say that Qin Weishan was too good to her, he suddenly added, " Sister Jiao An, could you grab my laptop for me? You're the best."
"You little brat taking advantage of your connections?!" Jiao An stood up and pretended to slap him. But just as her hand was about to hit Qin Weishan's face, it softened and gently pushed against his cheek instead.
The friendship between Jiao An and Qin Weishan was truly enviable. Everyone looked at Qin Weishan being "beaten" by Jiao An with jealous eyes—there probably wasn't anyone else in the world who could play around with Sister Jiao An like that. Even when Jiao An was with Lu Sha, she seemed a bit serious and restrained.
Though she pretended to want to hit him, Jiao An obediently fetched Qin Weishan's laptop from the bed and placed it on his lap.
"Alright, we won't disturb you..." An Xiaotian hadn't finished speaking when Lu Sha suddenly rushed over to cover his mouth.
An Xiaotian looked puzzled while Lu Sha giggled softly and said, "Let's sneak away and let those two enjoy their little world together. Hehe."
An Xiaotian smiled knowingly and waved at Xu Yicheng and Liu Xuan. Both Xu Yicheng and Liu Xuan were stifling laughter as they quietly left the room with the two of them.
"Huh?" Jiao An naturally noticed their scheme and called out, "Wait for me!"
The four realized their plan had been exposed and had no choice but to stop and wait for Jiao An.
Just as they were about to run away, something suddenly pulled on their hands with considerable force. Jiao An stumbled as she tripped over Qin Weishan's foot.
"Ah!"
Jiao An exclaimed in surprise, losing her balance and ended up bumping her head directly into Qin Weishan's chest, falling into his embrace.
"Oh wow—" Lu Sha could no longer contain her excitement as she turned to An Xiaotian and Xu Yicheng for a high-five, exclaiming, "Haha, it worked!"
Jiao An looked up just in time to meet Qin Weishan's gaze. Her eyes sparkled like fragmented moons in water, swaying gently and blooming flowers in Qin Weishan's heart that had never blossomed before. The two seemed less shy than before; instead, there was more tenderness between them.
"What... what are you doing?" Jiao An pushed against Qin Weishan's legs, struggling to stand up.
"No, I... I just wanted to ask you something..." Qin Weishan stammered, unsure how to explain himself.
"Spit it out quickly!" Jiao An stood up, brushing her messy hair back while placing her hands on her hips in front of him— Sister Jiao An looked somewhat adorable when she was angry.
"Why didn't you send me a message when you came back..." Qin Weishan asked weakly.
"Am I your dad that I need to report back?" Jiao An coldly questioned.
"No... it's not that; I was just worried," Qin Weishan replied.
Jiao An twisted her mouth, tilted her head, and suddenly kicked Qin Weishan's calf, saying, "Keep your feet to yourself from now on, got it?!"
"Okay, okay, I know," Qin Weishan glanced at the four people outside who were watching the show and shot a fierce glare at An Xiaotian.
"Hmph." Jiao An turned around, desperately suppressing the fleeting smile on her face.
"Ah ha, Sister Jiao An!"
"Was that your terrible idea?"
"No, it wasn't me; Brother Xiaotian made us leave!"
"Huh?"
"Xiaotian, don't think just because you're the captain now that I can't hit you!"
"But this idea really wasn't mine! Hey, hey, hey..."
The door gradually closed as Qin Weishan watched the five of them leave his room, chatting and laughing. Thinking about Jiao An's earlier expression, he felt like a fool and chuckled to himself before suddenly shaking his head and slapping himself hard.
Everyone gradually dispersed to their respective destinations. Liu Xuan bid farewell to everyone but felt like something was missing.
"Oh no, I haven't called Ma Yihan today."
Liu Xuan suddenly stopped and took out his phone.
"Xuan?"
"Yeah?" Liu Xuan turned around; An Xiaotian hadn't left yet and was standing behind him asking, "Aren't you leaving?"
"Uh, I haven't called her yet today," Liu Xuan replied.
An Xiaotian fell silent. He recalled his previous conversation with Yang Meng. He wished he had a phone so he could call Yang Meng too, but unfortunately, he had turned in his phone for a mission. He had asked General Jiang for it back, but the general clearly had no intention of returning it.
Although he was the captain of The Celestial Warriors Alliance, in terms of official rank, he really was nothing.
"What's wrong?" Liu Xuan asked.
"Oh." An Xiaotian snapped back to reality and said, "General Jiang asked me to tell you that she's coming to see you today. She wants you to wait for her at the door at seven tonight."
"Really?!" Liu Xuan exclaimed joyfully.
An Xiaotian nodded. "Get ready."
"Haha, thank you!" Liu Xuan was already overwhelmed with excitement.
"Why are you thanking us? You should thank Ma Yihan for coming all this way just to see you," An Xiaotian patted Liu Xuan on the shoulder. "You should cherish such a good girlfriend."
"She's not just my girlfriend," Liu Xuan looked at An Xiaotian in surprise and chuckled, "She's clearly my wife."
"Pfft." An Xiaotian and Liu Xuan exchanged glances and both laughed. An Xiaotian said, "Before that, can I see Nars?"
"Sure," Liu Xuan's eyes immediately softened like gentle moonlight. Nars asked, "Is there something you need, Captain?"
An Xiaotian inquired, "You mentioned we should team up with Miao Chengmin and the others, but the problem is, where do we find them?"
Nars was caught off guard. He rubbed his hands together and said, "Uh, let me think... We should be able to find them. With so many Spirit Corps moving through the jungle, there must be some signs."
"Alright, I believe in you," An Xiaotian said as he walked alongside Nars. "Sigh, the future of this world is becoming increasingly troubling."
"Yeah..." Nars turned and smiled. "You might feel that humans are too small and weak right now, but you should have faith in your fellow beings."
"Indeed, I have great confidence in my comrades," An Xiaotian replied.
"Vamulel will be fine," Nars said, extending his fist. An Xiaotian looked at him in surprise. This was clearly something he used to do with Liu Xuan when they entered exams as kids—fist bumps.
"He taught me that," Nars said, patting his chest with his other hand.
"Haha, that guy," An Xiaotian said as he extended his fist and bumped it against Nars's. The determination in An Xiaotian's eyes brought immense comfort to Nars.
"Do you know, Nars, Liu Xuan?" An Xiaotian began. "Since I was young, I've wondered where my life would begin and where it would end. Now, it seems I know the conclusion."
"Hmm?" Nars looked at him.
"Drunkenly lying on the battlefield, do not laugh at me," An Xiaotian sighed, gazing at the gray sky today. "The fate of us warriors is probably like this."
"I haven't mentioned this to anyone, but I often dream of terrifying images. Each time I wake up, I'm left with a chilling feeling on my back. I can hardly imagine how we will face all of this in the future—or perhaps we simply lack the strength or courage to face it at all. I'm scared, Nars, really scared."
Nars and An Xiaotian sat down on a bench in the living area. Nars asked, "What is your dream?"
"I don't have any dreams anymore," An Xiaotian replied. "Right now, I just hope that a hundred years after I die, someone will come to my grave and say: 'The mountains and rivers remain; the country is peaceful and prosperous.'"
"Then you have no reason to be afraid," Nars said. "Fear will only throw you off balance. Instead of thinking about these scenarios where you fail before even trying, why not consider what to do moving forward? The future is just countless todays. One day, you'll realize that everything you fear is merely a hurdle you will eventually overcome."
An Xiaotian covered his mouth with both hands and leaned on his legs. After listening to Nars finish speaking, he wiped his face and said, "I hope so; thank you."
"It's nothing," Nars draped an arm over An Xiaotian's shoulder. "The Celestial Warriors fear nothing!"
"Yes, fear nothing!" An Xiaotian smiled faintly and grabbed Nars's arm playfully—then suddenly remembered who he was and quickly let go.
"Uh, did you play like this with Liu Xuan too?" Nars asked.
"We played everything when we were kids," An Xiaotian replied before suddenly asking the now-returned Liu Xuan, "Hey, can I borrow your phone? I want to call Yang Meng."
"No problem." Liu Xuan took out his phone and handed it to him. "Here you go; just return it later! I'm heading to the door now!"
"So early? It's only six o'clock," An Xiaotian said while holding Liu Xuan's phone, unsure of what else to say.
"She'll definitely arrive early; do I not know her?" Liu Xuan ran off while turning back to smile at An Xiaotian.
"Sigh, a child who will never grow up," An Xiaotian muttered as he looked at the phone before suddenly remembering: "Hey, your password! Hey!"
