Qiluo Ling fell silent and said, "Perhaps it is music that helps them find themselves, their true selves." 0

"True self?" Choi Ji-woo murmured, then gently shook her head, her right hand resting on the window sill, her fingers lightly tapping the wooden frame in a steady rhythm. This action seemed somewhat familiar to Qiluo Ling. 0

"This dark Piano Room reminds me of a place," Qiluo Ling continued, "a place that does not exist in reality but exists deep within everyone's soul—a Dark Room." 0

"Soul house?" Choi Ji-woo raised her eyebrows. 0

"Yes. Deep within everyone's soul lies a Dark Room. It coexists with one's will. However, the difference is that it is merely a dormant volcano, or rather, something that has been still for a long time." 0

"If it is dormant, then what is its purpose?" 0

"When a person is hurt and bleeding, I mean psychologically wounded by the external society, their self-awareness loses control over their actions and coordination with the external environment. To protect themselves, their soul—or rather, their thoughts—will enter that Dark Room to begin healing or recuperating. This is the purpose of the Dark Room. When the wounded soul curls up in that dark little house, the wounds gradually heal and the pain diminishes bit by bit. Until the soul can endure a certain amount of pain and recovers, it will emerge from this Dark Room, re-entering the external reality and starting to live normally again." 0

"Then this Dark Room is a place of redemption for the soul." 0

"You are only partially correct; it is also a place of demise for the soul. Sometimes, perhaps due to excessive harm to the soul or because the soul itself is too weak, some souls remain trapped in that Dark Room, unable to escape. Or perhaps the little house is too warm and safe, causing the soul to be unwilling to venture out. Or maybe they have stayed too long, leading the soul to believe that this little house is indeed the outside world. In any case, in the end, the soul becomes confined within this Dark Room until it perishes along with the body. Thus, this Dark Room is also a place of demise for the soul." 0

"What you say seems quite reasonable." 0

"Even mentally sound individuals enter a Dark Room several times throughout their lives. However, each time a soul emerges from the Dark Room, it becomes stronger; its reflections on life and death become deeper, and its understanding of itself becomes more profound. Conversely, if a soul cannot escape that Dark Room, both body and mind become like floating weeds—lost and unsupported. Without a soul, a person becomes blind and empty, leading to obsession. When thoughts lose control, a person's behavior becomes erratic." 0

Choi Ji-woo gazed at the sunlight outside and fell silent. 0

After a long time, he finally spoke. 0

"You are right. The Music Teacher came to my house when my sister was seventeen. We found him unconscious by the seaside. He has a speech impediment, which means he has aphasia. He couldn't say a word, and his background has always been a mystery. We didn't know who he was or where he came from. So he stayed in our home and became part of our lives. I should say our lives were changed by his music." 0

Choi Ji-woo's serious expression softened, as if she was lost in memories. 0

"In fact, he couldn't do anything once he left the piano. But when he played, he exuded nobility and grace, and the melodies were enchanting, like a musical angel. His music was like a beam of bright sunlight piercing through our dark room. We emerged from the Dark Room of our souls thanks to his piano playing. My sister's Mental Illness improved significantly, and I was no longer haunted by nightmares. Those were the happiest times our family ever had." 0

After a long while, his smile gradually faded, and his expression turned pained. 0

"But ever since he mysteriously disappeared, shadows have once again enveloped us. My sister became confused again and ran away from home. And my heart was once more controlled by demons. Sometimes, I feel that living is an incredibly difficult thing, an insurmountable difficulty that becomes the source of pain. Many people die in confusion, and even more wait to die in uncertainty. Perhaps only beautiful melodies can alleviate human suffering, give hope, and allow one to transcend pleasure and immerse oneself in beauty, whether it be heart-wrenching or blood-boiling, thus purifying the soul and achieving the greatest joy." 0

Qiluo Ling sat silently on the high piano bench, gazing at the Black Grand Piano under the ever-changing light. After staring for too long, she felt there was no difference between herself and the piano before her. The same loneliness, the same silence. In some way, she and the piano lived in their own worlds of solitude. 0

Its black and white keys seemed to ponder something, while she too reflected on her black-and-white life. In that moment, she became this black-and-white piano, and the black-and-white piano became her. Through long periods of playing and listening, they understood each other. Perhaps because of this connection, they became one another, thus diminishing their sense of loneliness. 0

When all contemplation ended, she was still herself, and the piano remained a piano. 0
