Huo Yun'ai had been preoccupied with something, which allowed him to stay awake.
Although he had managed to hold on for a while, he was still sick and suffering from a high fever, making his body unable to endure much strain. After settling down, it wasn't long before he truly fell asleep.
To help Huo Yun'ai reduce his fever as quickly as possible, Doctor Luo prescribed medication that contained ingredients to induce sweating. Every so often, he would break out in a sweat.
Qing Wu stayed by Huo Yun'ai's side, frequently wiping the beads of sweat from his forehead with warm water. She also adjusted the corners of his blanket from time to time.
—Huo Yun'ai was sweating, which made him uncomfortable. Even in his sleep, he would occasionally try to kick off the covers.
However, the air was already cold, and even though the Furnace was lit, the room's temperature was not high enough for someone who was ill to sleep without a blanket. Huo Yun'ai's actions could easily lead to him catching a chill again.
Thus, Qing Wu tirelessly repeated the actions of wiping sweat and tucking in the blanket corners to prevent his condition from worsening.
Uncle Yu felt sorry for her and often came over to help. However, each time he did, it was in vain.
Strangely enough, when Qing Wu wiped Huo Yun'ai's sweat, he remained calm and allowed her to do so. But whenever Uncle Yu approached, Huo Yun'ai would wave him away. Even with his eyes closed in sleep, his brow would furrow slightly, showing his displeasure.
Uncle Yu was astonished. Wanting to help, he thought of a clever idea—he would assist by wetting the cloth or carrying water. As for the more intimate actions like wiping or tucking in the blanket, those would be left to Qing Wu.
This arrangement worked well. Qing Wu saved a lot of time and effort, and Huo Yun'ai no longer "threw tantrums."
Repetitive actions always lead to fatigue. Before long, Qing Wu also felt tired. Without needing anyone else to say anything, she climbed into the inner side of Huo Yun'ai's bed and nestled beside him to rest.
After seeing this, Uncle Yu initially thought about bringing another bed into the room since His Majesty was currently ill; it wouldn't be good for the young lady to catch anything from him.
But then he recalled how this young lady had once fallen asleep in the Emperor's embrace. Although His Majesty had lulled her to sleep, hadn't she also ensured that he had a good night's rest?
Therefore, after hesitating for a while, Uncle Yu felt that the girl beside him might not necessarily contract the illness; perhaps she could help the Emperor recover more quickly. So he said nothing more and let her be.
As the evening approached, Huo Yun'ai's body temperature finally began to drop.
Doctor Luo was very pleased and secretly sighed that he had finally used the right medicine.
However, Uncle Yu did not think so.
He deeply felt that this Liu Young Lady was indeed a benefactor in the Emperor's life. As long as the girl was present, the Emperor's luck would improve significantly.
But this thought was somewhat inappropriate to voice; he could only keep it to himself and understand it privately.
Although Huo Yun'ai's condition had improved, Qing Wu did not dare to be careless. She still carefully asked Doctor Luo if there was anything else to pay attention to.
After examining Huo Yun'ai's pulse, Doctor Luo said, "If she doesn't have a fever tonight, then there shouldn't be any major issues. If the Emperor wakes up later, I will come back to check her pulse again."
Qing Wu quietly noted this down and resolved to stay up tonight.
Just as she was about to ask Uncle Yu for a blanket, he had already brought over a thick quilt and an extra pillow.
Feeling somewhat embarrassed that someone had guessed her thoughts, Qing Wu thanked him and was about to climb into bed when Uncle Yu called out to her from behind.
Qing Wu turned around and saw Uncle Yu smiling brightly, bringing his hands from behind his back to present something to her with a proud expression.
"This is what I just had someone buy from outside the palace. I wonder if it meets your approval?"
Although he asked, his confident demeanor clearly indicated that he expected Qing Wu's response to be affirmative.
Qing Wu looked at the object with a complicated feeling.
……Rattle Drum.
To prevent the drum from suddenly sounding, she had carefully tied the two shaking ropes together with a strip of cloth. However, this allowed her to see the painting on the drum more clearly. On one side, there was a scene of children playing in spring, while on the other side, there was a landscape of swallows flying over a Weeping Willow.
Looking at the cloth strip tied to the ropes, it was sewn neatly on both sides with fine stitches. The narrow strip even had a vine pattern embroidered in it, indicating that considerable effort had been put into it.
Qing Wu understood that Uncle Yu must have specially arranged this item to thank her for keeping him company.
However, whether the item was suitable for her age was secondary; the thought behind it was what mattered most.
Qing Wu happily accepted it and sweetly expressed her gratitude.
Seeing her happy, Uncle Yu felt pleased as well. "If you need anything, just let me know, and I will prepare it for you as soon as possible." He glanced over at Huo Yun'ai, noticing that Huo Yun'ai seemed to move slightly, recalling that Doctor Luo had already reduced the fever and that His Majesty would wake up soon.
Uncle Yu then said softly, "I will have someone prepare some food. Please wait a moment."
Qing Wu nodded in response and reminded him a few more things. Once she saw that there were no others in the room, she climbed onto the inner side of the bed, adjusted her pillow, and placed the silent Rattle Drum beside it. Just as she was about to spread out the blanket and tidy up her sleeping area, she suddenly felt something was off.
Stopping her movements and glancing around…
Oh.
Huo Yun'ai had woken up at some point and was staring at her intently.
Just as Qing Wu was about to speak to him, unexpectedly, Huo Yun'ai turned over and sat up in his clothes. Seeing that he intended to stand up, Qing Wu hurriedly crawled to the edge of the bed and grabbed his sleeve.
"Just right, stay still, don't move around. If there's something, I'll go find someone."
She was originally worried that Huo Yun'ai wouldn't listen and was thinking about how to persuade him further. To her surprise, the young man slightly turned his head to look at her, nodded, and lay back down.
...He actually listened after just one time...
In that moment, Qing Wu felt a bit bewildered. But soon, this confusion was replaced by happiness.
She hurriedly climbed down and, under Huo Yun'ai's watchful gaze, poured him a glass of water and placed it in his hand for him to drink. Then she ran to the door and called Uncle Yu over.
By this time, it was completely dark outside.
After some questioning, Uncle Yu learned that Huo Yun'ai was a bit hungry. He quickly summoned the eunuch to bring over the plain porridge and light dishes that Qing Wu had instructed to be cooked earlier.
"The young lady had someone prepare plain porridge early in the morning and also had a few light dishes stewed, instructing that they should be soft and well-cooked," Uncle Yu said with a smile. "Doctor Luo praised the young lady for being attentive; it's most suitable for His Majesty's recovery."
Doctor Luo arrived just in time to hear this and said with a smile, "Indeed. For someone recovering from illness, their stomach is weak and should consume soft and easily digestible food." He approached the bedside and carefully took Huo Yun'ai's pulse.
After a long while, Doctor Luo sighed and said, "There shouldn't be any major issues. As long as you rest well, you can expect a full recovery in seven days."
Noticing that Huo Yun'ai hadn't eaten for quite some time, he knew he must be extremely hungry and didn't say much more. After bowing, he left.
Uncle Yu brought a table over to the bed and had the food and porridge served on it so that Huo Yun'ai could eat while sitting up in bed without needing to get up again.
Qing Wu yawned as she watched all this unfold. She initially planned to go to sleep first but realized her stomach couldn't handle being hungry any longer; she felt a bit empty inside now.
Just then, Uncle Yu had someone prepare food for her as well. Seeing that everything was arranged for Huo Yun'ai, Qing Wu decided to get out of bed and go to the table by the window to eat.
Just as she was about to act on her thoughts and move to the bedside, she was suddenly pulled back by Huo Yun'ai.
"Just stay here."
He glanced at the food on the bedside table, shifted the table toward the center of the Dragon Bed, and had someone bring Qing Wu's meal over to place on the table. "It's much more convenient here."
Despite his words, Qing Wu felt that eating at the dining table was preferable to eating in bed. She intended to refuse, but before she could voice her thoughts, her hand was tightly grasped by Huo Yun'ai.
The firmness of the boy's grip left no room for argument, and his eyes held a look of anticipation.
Qing Wu found herself unable to speak, her words stuck in her throat.
"...Then let's eat here," she finally relented, her heart softening.
After the meal, Huo Yun'ai summoned a eunuch to wipe away the sweat from his body. He then changed into a clean undershirt.
Qing Wu had long known that Huo Yun'ai did not shy away from her presence, but she hadn't expected that he wouldn't even consider asking her to step outside while he changed. Fortunately, Qing Wu reacted quickly and hurried into the inner room before the eunuch could begin. She sat quietly with her eyes closed, waiting until everything was settled and the attendants had left before she secretly wiped away a cold sweat and rushed out.
Huo Yun'ai looked at her flushed face, momentarily taken aback before breaking into a low laugh. He ruffled her hair and pulled her down to sleep beside him.
Qing Wu had been busy and worried, and she was already exhausted. As soon as she lay down, her eyes closed. Before long, her breathing became steady, and she fell into a deep sleep.
Listening to her even breaths, the boy beside her shifted slightly and slowly opened his previously closed eyes.
Perhaps he had slept too much during the day; despite feeling tired now, Huo Yun'ai found it impossible to fall asleep. He feared that Qing Wu might stay awake worrying about him, so he pretended to be sound asleep.
In the dim light of the room, Huo Yun'ai slowly turned his face and gazed intently at the sleeping girl.
She was extremely beautiful. Even in her sleep, she looked charming and lovely.
Huo Yun'ai was quietly watching when suddenly, Qing Wu, in her deep slumber, seemed to dream of something. Her hand reached out in front of her, waving continuously. It wasn't until she touched the sleeve of the young man that her movements ceased. Grasping it in her hand, the girl unconsciously shifted forward, pressing closely against him, and then continued to sleep soundly.
After a long while, Huo Yun'ai gently sighed, lifted her hand, and wrapped it in his palm. After a moment's thought, he softly placed a kiss on her forehead. Then he closed his eyes and soon fell into a deep sleep.
Children tire quickly but recover just as fast.
The next day, Qing Wu woke up feeling refreshed, all previous fatigue swept away.
After moving her body slightly, the first thing she did was to check on Huo Rong.
The young man had not yet awakened. Just looking at him, she felt that his complexion was a bit pale. Other than that, he didn't appear to be ill.
Clearly, he was almost fully recovered.
Qing Wu was very pleased and secretly thought that once he woke up and they spoke, she would go home.
