"How did we end up here?" Huo Yun'ai asked softly, looking around. She picked up a thin shirt nearby and draped it over her, saying, "You might catch a cold sleeping like this."
"The palace has been destroyed, and it will take some time to repair it. It’s better to rest here for now."
Qing Wu had just woken up, and she was awakened by the noise. Her voice was soft and slightly dazed as she instinctively replied, then mumbled a question back, "If not here, then where else?"
Coming to Ningxin Pavilion was the result of discussions between Uncle Yu and Dou Mama.
Once Huo Yun'ai confirmed that the Rebels had all been dealt with, she quickly had someone bring Qing Wu out, fearing that the girl would not withstand the cold in that dark place for too long. However, there were too many matters for her to attend to, and she didn't have time to inquire about the extent of the damage to Qing Wu's palace before heading to the prison.
Thus, Uncle Yu and Dou Mama arranged for them to stay here.
Qing Wu was still not fully awake. She rested her head on her arm, squinting at him. After a moment, her expression cleared a bit. She sat up straight and asked, "Are you okay?"
Huo Yun'ai had a thousand words she wanted to say to her.
Fortunately, she noticed that Granny Lu was in trouble and had Meng Liang come to inform him, which helped him avoid some unnecessary issues.
Fortunately, she was unharmed and he could see her safe and sound as always. That was more important than anything else.
But when the words were on the tip of his tongue, seeing her fatigue made him swallow them back. He simply responded softly. He wanted to hold her in his arms but raised his arm only to see bloodstains on his clothes. Afraid that the stains would dirty her attire, he instead brushed his fingers through her hair.
His fingertips felt damp.
Huo Yun'ai paused for a moment, then lifted her wet hair with his fingers and asked, "Have you taken a bath?"
Huo Yun'ai's eyes were filled with bloodshot veins. Her originally bright eyes now appeared dark and deep like a bottomless pool. Yet when he looked at her, that unchanging warmth shone through despite everything.
Qing Wu felt a pang in her heart as she lightly nodded, raising her finger to trace his cool brows and eyes. Then, she took his large hand and playfully traced his long fingers with her fingertips, saying, "Of course. After all this time, if you don't wash up, it might really get filthy."
As she lifted her hand, the floral fragrance from her bath wafted out from her sleeves, rushing toward him unexpectedly.
Taking a deep breath of that delicate scent, even someone as steadfast as he was momentarily lost in thought. Noticing her puzzled gaze, he realized he hadn't quite caught what she had just said. Taking a breath to steady himself, he asked in a calm voice, "What did you just say?"
Noticing his voice was slightly hoarse, he quickly cleared his throat to cover it up. Looking down at his hands, which were still somewhat dirty, he pulled them back and frowned, saying, "Dirty." He then glanced around the room in search of a basin filled with water.
Earlier, Dou Mama had brought some snacks, so this water must have been prepared for Qing Wu to wash her hands. Huo Yun'ai reached out to carefully clean them and wiped his face as well. Turning his head, he noticed that Qing Wu had already gotten up and was quietly waiting for him with a clean silk handkerchief.
In just a moment of distraction, she had stepped forward on tiptoe and gently wiped the droplets of water from his face one by one.
The handkerchief was very thin. The contact felt almost barrier-free, allowing him to feel the softness of the girl's skin.
The faint fragrance from earlier was now even closer. It carried the unique scent of the girl’s body, stirring something within him that made his blood rush and ache intensely.
Unable to resist any longer, Huo Yun'ai grabbed her hand and pulled it to his side while wrapping an arm tightly around her waist. He leaned down and kissed her.
Qing Wu was caught off guard and fell into his embrace. The sudden hot kiss came with undeniable force and intensity, stealing away all her breath.
She could hardly bear it and could only lean against his arm for support.
After a long while, struggling to breathe, she whimpered as she tried to pull back. He released his lips from hers but did not let go of her; instead, he turned to kiss her neck while his large hand slipped under her clothing and began to knead gently.
Qing Wu could hardly withstand such teasing. Her body felt both soft and numb, trembling slightly as if it no longer belonged to her.
"Don't. Please don't." She whispered, pushing him away weakly with no strength in her limbs.
He chuckled softly, almost in a murmur, "Qing Wu, we are already husband and wife."
Being husband and wife meant that everything was natural.
Even though Qing Wu's mind was blank at that moment, she understood the implication of his words. In an instant, her entire body flushed with embarrassment, and she trembled uncontrollably.
Her shy appearance only made him adore her more. Unable to resist, he reached out to her with tender affection.
The boy's hands had developed calluses from continuous training, making them rougher than before. When they touched her skin, it felt both prickly and unbearable.
The girl could hardly bear it, gasping for breath, and eventually choked out a sound.
Huo Yun'ai felt a throbbing pain that was driving him nearly mad. Biting her earlobe, he murmured, "Is there still water in the bathhouse?"
Water? What water?
Qing Wu's mind went blank for a moment before she finally realized he was referring to the bathing water.
"There should be hot water in the kitchen. If we bring it in, then there will be some." She replied somewhat incoherently.
As soon as she finished speaking, the boy's lips had already pulled away, and her entire body was suddenly released.
Air rushed into her open clothing. The sudden chill made her shiver, and before she could react, she found herself lifted off the ground by him.
Qing Wu was afraid of falling and did her utmost to hold onto his neck. Turning her head, she saw they were heading towards the Bathhouse, and she began to understand, her face slowly losing color and turning pale.
"What... what are you going to do?"
Seeing that he didn't answer, her steps became more urgent, and she grew even more anxious. Yet, she didn't struggle; she just widened her eyes, staring at him in terror.
If it were any other time, he would have comforted her, cheered her up, and assured her not to be afraid because he was there.
But at this moment, knowing that she would be in excruciating pain soon, he could not retreat as he usually would.
...In the end, she had to endure the pain once. There was no way to avoid it.
Better to hurt early than late.
Huo Yun'ai tried hard not to open his eyes and look at her terrified expression. With one arm around her, he tapped on the water pipe with the other.
Azalea was busy in the storeroom. Hearing the palace maid's report that water was needed, she found it a bit strange. Hadn't the lady just finished bathing? Why was she still tapping the pipe? Was it really for water or was it a mistake?
Regardless of whether it was a mistake or not, since the master had tapped, they should send water over!
After instructing the palace maid, Azalea realized that His Majesty had not left yet and dared not disturb Qing Wu, so she ran to ask Dou Mama.
Upon hearing this, Dou Mama felt a chill in her heart. After thinking it over, she suddenly understood and hurriedly instructed Azalea to prepare more hot water in the kitchen.
"The more, the better," Dou Mama said. "Make sure there is enough inside so that we can add water at any time."
"But..." Azalea was still somewhat confused. "But the young lady usually doesn't use that much water."
Dou Mama, seeing her so dull-witted, became a bit annoyed and pointed at her forehead, saying, "The Emperor is inside!"
"Ah? Then, then..." Azalea finally began to understand a little. Although she had not experienced such matters herself, the palace maids had specifically taught her about some things regarding serving the Emperor closely in the future. Upon hearing this, she first felt a bit flustered and then turned to run.
"I'll go prepare things!"
Listening to the sounds from inside, Dou Mama sighed quietly.
... At this point, it was probably too late to prepare anything.
The sound of rushing water had not yet stopped, and Qing Wu's clothes had already been completely torn off. She had already been washed once, but now she was being forced to wash again.
Qing Wu had known what was about to happen and wanted to find an excuse to run out, but Huo Yun'ai insisted that she stay and help him.
She refused, and the young man smiled as he asked, "Did I hear you tell Uncle Yu to rest? If that's the case, who else can come help me?"
He did not allow the young palace maids to come close; there were only a few attendants around him. Li Zi and Granny Lu had also been caught, and upon careful thought, it seemed there was hardly anyone left.
"How about I let Dou Mama come?" Qing Wu shrank back at the edge of the pool and trembled as she looked at the naked young man in the center of the pool.
"That's fine."
Seeing that Huo Yun'ai agreed, Qing Wu just relaxed a bit when she heard him say softly, "If you want her to see with her own eyes that I want you, then let her come in."
Qing Wu Who would have thought that the usually serious and high-and-mighty emperor would blurt out such nonsense without even blinking? She was instantly embarrassed and annoyed, turning her face away to ignore him. However, she ultimately didn't insist on waiting for someone else. Instead, she picked up a silk scarf and slowly walked behind him, splashing water onto his back.
The sound of rushing water filled her ears, quick and urgent.
Qing Wu dared not look at him, only sending water onto his back for a brief moment.
It felt like only a very short time had passed when suddenly the person beside her stopped, stood up abruptly, and lifted her into his arms. He didn't even bother to dry off; instead, he hurriedly carried her to the bedside.
"Don't! I'm not dry yet! I'm wet! It's cold!"
Qing Wu exclaimed as she pushed Huo Yun'ai away.
The young man, however, ignored her completely and tossed her onto the bed, then leaned down closer to her.
"This little bit of water is nothing. As for being cold..."
Young Emperor pressed tightly against her, nibbling on her earlobe with a light laugh, "You won't feel cold for long."
