“Where is Ji Shaoli?”
Ye Qingqing snorted coldly, “I finally caught him in the act! Ji Shaoli is still slim; he hasn’t cheated!”
Jian Yunong looked at the furious woman, unsure of what she was talking about. After chewing and swallowing her food with effort, Jian Yunong finally spoke, “Ji Shaoli is not here.”
“Not here? Who are you trying to fool?”
Ye Qingqing felt a lump in her chest, having wanted to vent this frustration for a long time. Now that she had reached the point of divorce, she was certain that Ji Shaoli had someone else outside. But she had never been able to catch any evidence.
Ye Qingqing rushed to the dining table. As a regular customer at the restaurant, she immediately noticed that there were two meal sets on the table. Looking at Jian Yunong, a delicate and charming girl, it was hard to believe that Jian Yunong would be the one eating two meal sets.
“Ordered two meal sets, huh! In my favorite private room! This must be intentional!” Ye Qingqing crossed her arms and directly sat down across from Jian Yunong.
Wearing sunglasses and exuding confidence with her arms crossed, Ye Qingqing's sharp gaze scrutinized the person in front of her.
With a palm-sized face, fair skin, and eyes that were quite likable, but everything else… To someone like Ye Qingqing, who had become a big star in the entertainment industry, Jian Yunong could only be described as having an ordinary face.
“Who are you?” Ye Qingqing only vaguely remembered Mist Shenshen. Even though someone had taken a photo of Jian Yunong and Ji Shaoli last time, the pixel quality was too poor for Ye Qingqing to recognize this person as someone who had been rumored to be involved with Ji Shaoli. “Why did Ji Shaoli settle for someone so plain? His taste is really bad!”
Jian Yunong had never encountered someone so arrogant before—someone who barged in out of nowhere and pointed out her looks without any courtesy.
Hearing Ye Qingqing mention Ji Shaoli repeatedly with disdain and a hint of jealousy made Jian Yunong suddenly realize that this person was Ji Shaoli's ex-wife—the big star Ye Qingqing?
Jian Yunong slightly curled her lips and replied leisurely, “You’d rather have someone less attractive than you; what does that say about your personality?”
Ye Qingqing was taken aback and quickly took off her sunglasses. “Who are you?”
Jian Yunong took a sip of soup. “I’m just a passerby.”
"Ye Qingqing" didn't believe it. "You charged this meal to 'Ji Shaoli's' account, and you say you're just a passerby? Do you think I'm an idiot?"
At that moment, "Jian Yunong's" phone rang.
"Ye Qingqing" was sharp-eyed and immediately spotted the words "husband" flashing on the phone screen.
Jealousy surged like a tide, drowning her rationality. "Ye Qingqing" swiftly snatched the phone from "Jian Yunong," who had just picked it up.
Three marks instantly appeared on the back of "Jian Yunong's" hand, scratched by "Ye Qingqing's" well-manicured long nails.
"Ji Shaoli! How many women do you have outside?" "Ye Qingqing" shouted angrily into the phone.
"Who are you?" A displeased voice came from the other end.
"Ye Qingqing" was taken aback; this voice wasn't "Ji Shaoli's!"
"Miss Ye, right? Why is my wife's phone with you? Don't involve innocent people in your matters. It seems you don't quite understand this principle."
"Ye Qingqing" remained unconvinced. "If she's your wife, why is she eating out on 'Ji Shaoli's' tab? Why order two sets of meals? Is wearing a green hat warmer in this chilly weather?"
A busy tone came from the phone as "Huo Jincheng" hung up.
Just as "Ye Qingqing" was about to look smugly at "Jian Yunong," the door to the private room was pushed open.
"What’s wrong with ordering two sets of meals? My wife and I agreed to have dinner together; do you have a problem with that?" "Huo Jincheng," holding his phone and casually putting one hand in his pocket, walked in with an air of coldness.
"Jian Yunong" stood up and couldn't help but softly call out, "Husband."
The lingering tone was reminiscent of someone acting spoiled with him.
Huo Jincheng stood in front of the table, ignoring Ye Qingqing's awkward expression. "Miss Ye, please leave, or I will have security come in to escort you out."
When had Miss Ye ever suffered such humiliation? Yet she couldn't think of a retort. "You... you guys..."
"Get lost." Huo Jincheng's patience had run out.
"Do you know who I am?" Ye Qingqing stood up, daring to yell at her?
"Are you famous? Why must I know who you are?" Huo Jincheng raised an eyebrow and pressed the service button. "Excuse me, someone is disturbing my meal. Please send security in to escort her out."
Ye Qingqing had never encountered such an ungentlemanly man!
Ye Qingqing shot a fierce glare at Huo Jincheng and stubbornly said, "I don't need your invitation! I can leave on my own!"
Finally, the room was left with just the two of them.
Jian Yunong let out a sigh; the first thing he did was pick up his chopsticks and quickly eat another piece of Noble Consort Chicken to calm his nerves.
"How did you know I was here?"
"Your aunt told me."
Huo Jincheng sat down across from Jian Yunong and shook his head helplessly at the amount of food on the table.
Jian Yunong felt a bit embarrassed. "Um... should I order you a couple more servings?"
Huo Jincheng chuckled lightly, "Alright."
He handed her the menu, "Take a look and see if there's anything else you want to eat."
"..." Jian Yunong stuck out her tongue in embarrassment, explaining her big appetite, "The waiter told me the portions are small, so I wanted to order a bit more."
Huo Jincheng glanced at the two sets of meals occupying the entire table and nodded, "Yeah, it is quite little."
After finishing their meal, Jian Yunong asked Huo Jincheng if they should go to the hospital to see Grandpa.
"No need to go for now. Grandma said Grandpa needs to rest. At his age, he should learn to take care of himself."
"What about Big Brother and Sister-in-law..."
"Don't worry about that."
Huo Jincheng still had to go to the company in the afternoon, while Jian Yunong returned home to finish the work tasks she hadn't completed yesterday.
After finishing these tasks, her neck felt stiff.
Huo Jincheng wouldn't be coming back for dinner tonight.
After sending out her work emails, Jian Yunong took a taxi and headed to the bar street.
Wangcai was initially happy to see Jian Yunong, pulling her over to taste a new soft drink he had developed. However, after Jian Yunong explained her purpose for visiting, Wangcai's previously smiling face turned dull and silent.
"Old classmate, you're asking for too much."
"Alright. I understand. I won't make it difficult for you."
Jian Yuqian smiled faintly, "Wangcai, please don't tell anyone about my need for this thing."
Wangcai was actually quite puzzled about why Jian Yunong wanted this item. "Can you tell me the reason?"
Jian Yunong didn't want to lie, but she couldn't tell the truth either.
All she could do was return a bitter smile to her old classmate.
Everything was left unspoken.
Walking down the brightly lit street, Jian Yunong watched the couples engaging in intimate displays of affection, a hint of melancholy showing on her face.
Jian Yunong reminded herself that the events of the past were over; she needed to learn to let go.
However, such self-encouragement had little effect. Jian Yunong's heartache had fluctuated over the years, sometimes better, sometimes worse.
At the corner of the street, a couple was kissing so passionately that their tongues were visible, oblivious to those around them.
Jian Yunong couldn't help but quicken her pace to leave this place.
