"You're so sweet-tongued." Huo Jincheng was left speechless by Jian Yunong's words. "If I perform well, shouldn't you treat me a little better? Hmm?"
Huo Jincheng placed Jian Yunong in the bathtub. "Promise me you'll cooperate with the doctor and get better soon, okay?"
He gradually leaned closer, their noses almost touching, softly coaxing her in a gentle voice, pecking at her lips one after another. "Nong Nong, I need you."
Jian Yunong wrapped her arms around his neck, her anxious heart feeling like it had softly landed, soothed by him, no longer drifting uncertainly in the air. "I... I will do my best. I'll try to get better soon."
Jian Yunong lowered her eyes, not knowing why she suddenly felt like crying. Perhaps it was because of Huo Jincheng's gentle demeanor or maybe it was his earlier words: I need you.
Did she not also need him?
However, Jian Yunong felt that her current situation was probably not suitable for returning to Nancheng; she wanted peace and quiet.
"I'm sorry," Jian Yunong said softly. "I'm not brave enough. I'm really afraid to go back."
After a kiss on her cheek, Huo Jincheng's voice rang out, "You don't need to apologize to me, Nong Nong. Just promise me you'll get better soon."
His hands slipped under her nightgown. "Come on, let your husband help you take a bath. My little Daughter-in-law needs to get all clean."
"Rogue." Jian Yunong feigned anger, her face flushed with embarrassment. "Stop it, don't touch me randomly."
The room heated up.
By the time Huo Jincheng and Jian Yunong went out, it was already dinner time.
The waitstaff greeted them with smiles, making Jian Yunong feel like they were snickering at them, as if to say they had indulged too much!
Huo Jincheng held Jian Yunong's hand as they walked out. "Is there anything special you've been wanting to eat lately?"
Jian Yunong couldn't think of anything.
"Then let me take you to a restaurant with a good reputation."
"Okay."
Jian Yunong had great faith in Huo Jincheng's taste.
The restaurant was located in a remote area; if it weren't for food enthusiasts, no one would know that such a great place was hidden in the alley.
Especially after tasting their signature dish, Jian Yunong almost bit her tongue.
"It's so delicious. How did you find this place?"
Jian Yunong looked at Huo Jincheng with eyes full of admiration.
Huo Jincheng smiled indulgently, "Secretary Ye recommended this place. I'm glad you like it."
The new secretary seemed to have a good temperament, different from Jiang Secretary and the others. However, ordinary people wouldn't catch Aunt Wu Shenshen's eye.
If she were just an ordinary woman, Aunt Wu wouldn't feel such a deep sense of crisis for her.
Jian Yunong often felt confused, but sometimes her intelligence would kick in, "Is Secretary Ye from Nancheng? If you hadn't said she was a secretary, I wouldn't have noticed; I would have thought she was some noble lady accompanying you."
Huo Jincheng casually replied while eating, "I only care about a secretary's professional qualities and work ability. Background isn't important."
Not being able to pry more information out of him, Jian Yunong secretly pouted and then raised her head with a smile, "Then I need to get better quickly so I won't be out of a job when I come back."
Huo Jincheng glanced at her, "Your boss is me, and your husband is also me. No one dares to fire you. Just listen to the doctor; don't rush it to avoid putting too much pressure on yourself."
Jian Yunong pouted, "But you didn't say that when you were in the bathroom earlier. Did you forget once you were full and dressed?"
Huo Jincheng shook his head helplessly, "Daughter-in-law, I'm just worried about you putting too much pressure on yourself. You know what they say: haste makes waste. Besides, I've thought about it seriously; your physical and mental health is the most important."
Jian Yunong took a bite of dessert, savoring the deliciousness between her lips and teeth, "You know? What you just said is sweeter than this dessert."
She smiled with her eyes curved.
"I don't believe it." Huo Jincheng raised an eyebrow, placing both hands on the table. He picked up a napkin to wipe his lips and smiled at her, "So are you sure you won't come over and kiss me?"
Jian Yunong stood up, her hands resting on the table as she leaned over and kissed him softly on the lips.
Outside, the night lights twinkled, and the couple lost in their passionate kiss were unaware of their surroundings.
Later that night, the two took a stroll through Prague Square before returning to their accommodation.
Secretary Ye was standing in the hotel lobby. Upon seeing them walk in, she immediately approached. "Mr. Huo, there are urgent matters that need your attention."
She tiptoed closer to Huo Jincheng, their faces almost touching. Ye Mei's voice was so soft that Jian Yunong couldn't hear it, but she sensed a gentle intimacy between them.
This scene felt oddly jarring.
Huo Jincheng turned his head. "Nong Nong, you should go rest in the room first."
Jian Yunong naturally wanted to express her concern. "What’s wrong?"
"Just some minor issues," Huo Jincheng replied, not wanting company matters to disturb Jian Yunong's rest. He wrapped his arm around her and led her into the elevator to take her to her room.
"Are you going to let me sleep alone?" Jian Yunong couldn't help but cling to him. "I feel so bad about it."
Huo Jincheng chuckled and playfully tapped her nose. "What’s there to feel bad about? I’ll finish up quickly. You worked hard last night; make sure to get some rest tonight."
Huo Jincheng did not stay in her room but went next door, where a small meeting room had been temporarily converted into his office.
In the middle of the night, Jian Yunong suddenly woke up from her dream, instinctively reaching out for that warm embrace, but found nothing.
What she touched was only coolness.
Turning on the room light, Jian Yunong sat up in bed, illuminating her solitude.
It was now five in the morning.
Unable to resist, Jian Yunong got out of bed. She wanted to check on Huo Jincheng. Was he going to be busy all night?
Holding a cup of hot milk, Jian Yunong did not knock on the door but instead pushed it open with her foot and squeezed through the slightly ajar door.
When Jian Yunong entered, Huo Jincheng was already slumped over in his seat, while Ye Mei was draping a thin blanket over him, standing by his side.
"Mrs. Huo."
Ye Mei noticed Jian Yunong and greeted her with an open smile, stepping forward. "Mr. Huo accidentally fell asleep. Please let me take that cup of milk. There's an impromptu meeting to hold later, and it might not be finished until eight in the morning. Mrs. Huo, why don't you go rest some more?"
Jian Yunong sighed, "There are just too many things to handle. It feels like it will never end."
"Yes. Recently, Chairman Huo has assigned heavier tasks. Those capable must work harder. Mr. Huo is the future heir; there are many matters he must personally oversee. This is Chairman Huo's requirement."
Mentioning that formidable woman made Jian Yunong fall silent.
"Then I'll go rest," Jian Yunong reminded Ye Mei, "Remember to let him drink the milk."
Ye Mei nodded with a smile, "Don't worry. I will make sure your concern reaches him."
After Jian Yunong left, Ye Mei walked directly to the bathroom and poured the entire cup of milk down the toilet.
In the mirror, Ye Mei's expressionless face reflected back at her.
