Green Qi was deep in thought when the sudden sound of the doorbell interrupted her. She thought it was IKEA who had forgotten their keys, and without thinking, she opened the door.
The more one tries to avoid someone, the more likely they are to appear. Standing outside was none other than her husband: Jiang Chengmu.
Could it be that he came over for a surprise inspection because he suspected something? It must be! Green Qi felt his intense gaze on her, as if he were searching for some clue.
Sweat began to form in the palms of Green Qi. If this continued, she would surely be discovered; she needed to send him away quickly.
"What's up? It's rare for you to come over; aren't you going to let me in for a bit?"
"Since you're here so rarely, just get to the point!" The implication was clear: since he forced himself to come over, he should say what he needed and leave quickly.
Jiang Chengmu wasn't surprised by Green Qi's stance at the door, showing no intention of letting him in. This woman had always been indifferent towards him since they got married. If she suddenly became warm towards him, that would be unusual.
If it weren't for Lu Manqing repeatedly confirming that Gu Lvq Qi had cheated on him, he wouldn't have come over looking for evidence after failing to catch her in the act. However, looking at the calm Mrs. Jiang, he wasn't sure if anything had really happened.
He believed that with time, the truth would reveal itself. He didn't plan to leave so soon; he pushed aside Green Qi's hand and entered the living room, sitting down and propping his feet up on the coffee table.
When Green Qi followed him in and saw his arrogant demeanor, she couldn't help but laugh. "I say, Jiang Dashao, aren't you a bit too familiar? Did the host invite you in? The host doesn't even want you here, yet you still have the nerve to come!"
Sure enough, Jiang Chengmu's face darkened, his Eyes filled with gloom; he was angry.
Green Qi secretly laughed; she hoped he would get angry so that he would leave sooner. Although she was wearing long pants and a collared shirt with her hair down to cover any marks, it was easy for someone to become suspicious given how heavily she was dressed in the summer. He might already have doubts.
Sure enough, Jiang Chengmu spoke up: "Mrs. Jiang, you dressed so lightly yesterday, and today you're so conservative. Aren't you afraid others will think you're quite reserved?"
You're the one who's reserved! Green Qi cursed inwardly but couldn't show it. She felt anxious and pretended to sigh before speaking, "Jiang Shao, you know that different occasions call for different attire. At home, I prefer to dress like this."
Jiang Chengmu knew she was sharp-tongued and couldn't find any evidence to his advantage, so he decided to back down.
"I've been here for quite a while, and I haven't seen you pour me a glass of water. Even as a guest, you should offer tea or water. Moreover, I'm your husband. If Madam Jiang finds out, your days might not be easy!"
Green Qi found his words very harsh. Offering tea or water? What era are we in? Even as a couple, they should be equal. Besides, it was just the two of them here; if news got out, it would be him who spread it. This was clearly a blatant threat.
But she still went to the kitchen and poured a glass of water; she had to maintain appearances.
Jiang Chengmu took a sip of the water while Green Qi watched him drink, her mind racing with thoughts on how to send him away. She thought it would be great if IKEA were here; that girl had been out for so long and still hadn't returned!
