Rao Jie didn't want to say anything about Jiang Chuchu. After all, they had been very close during their freshman year. If she told Wu Xin, knowing her temperament, she would probably fly back and start a fight. There was no need for that; it would only make things awkward, and it would be Rao Jie who ended up embarrassed. She didn't want to waste her energy on them anymore.
"It doesn't matter who it is; I don't want to pursue this matter," she said.
"Why not pursue it? You definitely need to get revenge! How can you let those two bitches go unpunished? You're the victim; they need to know that you're not someone to mess with. You're just too soft-hearted. No way, I'm coming back to help you," Wu Xin insisted.
"Really, it's unnecessary. There are no victims in love, only those who love and those who don't. I just don't want to waste my time and feelings on them anymore. The most important thing for me right now is to find a place to settle down."
Wu Xin looked at Rao Jie, unsure if she was seeing too clearly or if she was so heartbroken that she couldn't bear to face them again. She guessed it was the latter. Since Rao Jie didn't want to bring it up, Wu Xin didn't press her further. "Didn't we just agree? You can stay at my place, indefinitely. My parents have immigrated, so the house is empty. My brother is just an unexpected factor; you don't need to worry about him."
"Maybe it's not such a good idea; it could be a bit inconvenient."
"Do you have enough money to rent a place right now? Rent these days is usually one month deposit and three months' rent in advance. Can you afford that? And don't forget, you're in your senior year now; you have to prepare for the graduate entrance exams. You won't have time to work part-time for money, will you? Just think about it."
Wu Xin was sharper than her and understood the situation better. She hit the nail on the head regarding Rao Jie's helplessness. Since she had run away from home, there was no way she could ask her family for money. The little cash she had could barely cover her food expenses, let alone accommodation.
"So living at my place is the best option. Just ignore my brother; that's just how he is. He's fierce, but you need to be fiercer than him; otherwise, he will intimidate you."
Rao Jie chuckled nervously. How could she dare to be fierce with Wu Rong? To be honest, Wu Rong was really handsome; their whole family had good genes. Wu Xin had been the school beauty in high school, and Wu Rong's looks were arguably even more refined than hers.
But Rao Jie was still afraid of him. Just thinking about how he stormed off earlier and slammed the door made her legs tremble; his notebook almost got smashed in the process.
No matter how handsome he was, his constant fierce expression made him intimidating. Only someone with guts would dare approach him; as for Rao Jie, she was timid and couldn't even look at him for more than five seconds straight.
"Your brother is really angry; maybe it's better not to trouble him. I'll think of another way tomorrow—there must be... some way."
Wu Xin looked at Rao Jie and comforted her, "Staying here is the best choice; trust me, I have a way to deal with him."
Rao Jie paused in surprise. "Did you just say you'd tell your parents?"
Wu Xin laughed heartily. "My parents are pushing for marriage right now, so my brother is terrified of being found out."
"Marriage? But... your brother doesn't look that old!"
Wu Xin smirked mischievously. "My parents think that since my brother is young and has looks and a career going for him, he should find a partner quickly. Otherwise, it will be even harder when he gets older."
"You've noticed his bad temper too, right? Most people can't handle his quirks; he's so fierce that it's like his face was wasted on him! And he's still single—a total bachelor!"
"Even though he's spent several years in open Western countries, he still chooses to focus solely on academic research every day! My parents are worried he'll end up lonely forever, so they've started arranging things for him a few years earlier than usual."
