"Eighteen," Chen Yue said, thinking to himself how many people had asked him his age today.
"Eighteen!?" the old man with a white beard shouted.
The white-bearded man reached through the car window and firmly grabbed Chen Yue's shoulder. The man's grip was surprisingly strong, and for a moment, Chen Yue couldn't break free.
It was Old Lu who got out of the car, pulling the white-bearded man back by the shoulder, allowing Chen Yue to finally breathe a sigh of relief and move to the other side to get out of the car.
Old Lu said to the white-bearded man, "Don't make such a fuss over a young person."
Chen Yue walked around to Old Lu's side, while the white-bearded man, still unconvinced, asked, "When were you born?!"
"August fifteenth," Chen Yue replied.
"Impossible, impossible, impossible!" The white-bearded man kept repeating, lowering his head as his whole body trembled violently.
"I've seen his ID; August fifteenth is correct," Captain Wang also came out from the office.
"Don't you mind this rain? You're all soaked and have kept me waiting for ages; I had to come out and invite you in," Captain Wang said helplessly while holding an umbrella.
At that moment, Li Caishu chuckled and said, "Since we're already drenched, what's a little more rain?" He then jogged into the office.
Chen Yue walked last, casting a curious glance at the white-bearded man.
Old Lu turned his head and noticed Chen Yue's expression. He stood beside him and whispered, "Don't mind him; he's been like this for the past two years—crazy."
"Who is he?" Chen Yue nodded and asked.
"Special Regulatory Bureau, the big boss in Central China, skill: Prophet, Jiang Jiang."
"He is..." Chen Yue didn't finish his sentence. He had originally thought Old Lu would harbor deep resentment towards that Prophet but was surprised to see no animosity at all; they seemed more like ordinary friends.
Old Lu saw through Chen Yue's thoughts and said, "I hate him; that's personal. Right now I'm in uniform, and today we need to discuss major world issues—he's essential for that. I can distinguish between public and private matters."
The white-bearded man might have heard Old Lu's words; as he was about to enter, he turned back to glance at him with a dark look filled with regret but mostly determination.
Inside the office sat a crowd of people in suits, each showing signs of difficulty.
Seeing them enter, a man who had been pacing back and forth approached Old Lu and asked, "Where's that kid you mentioned?"
Old Lu glanced back and saw Chen Yue hiding behind him. With a helpless smile, he turned sideways to reveal Chen Yue, instantly drawing all eyes to his face.
"Talk to them about what you saw," Old Lu said as he patted Chen Yue's shoulder reassuringly.
Everyone fell silent; the entire police station was so quiet that one could hear a pin drop.
Even Li Caishu, who had been clamoring for Captain Wang to explain, fell silent, waiting for Chen Yue to speak.
Chen Yue said, "Three days ago, I saw a red cloud in the sky that remained fixed in place. I told my classmates, but they all said I was imagining things."
"There were two cracks on the red cloud that looked very much like squinting eyes. I felt like it was watching me."
"Today, while I was in the car with Uncle Li and Uncle Lu, I saw one of the cracks suddenly widen, like a beast opening its eyes after lying in wait for a long time, ready to hunt."
"Its eyes emitted a fierce white light, and the cloud seemed to expand like it was being blown apart by the wind. The white light gradually faded, leaving behind a hollow white space."
"It was at that moment that a swarm of giant beasts flew out from the hollow. I saw a giant bird flying towards our car and shouted for Uncle Li and Uncle Lu to get out. I hurriedly got out too, but the giant bird did not attack us."
These things that Chen Yue witnessed about the mysterious side of this world had already been shared with Li Caishu and Old Lu. What remained were the experiences he shared with Li Caishu and Old Lu.
There was no need for concealment, so Chen Yue told them everything.
"Is it convenient to take another look now?" asked the man who had initially inquired about Chen Yue's whereabouts, Fu Tianqi.
Chen Yue nodded and said, "Sure."
Then he walked to the door, stood at the threshold, and looked up.
"It's gone," Chen Yue organized his thoughts and ultimately decided to speak honestly.
"What?!" The few people who followed Chen Yue out were shocked.
Others also looked up at the sky, but they couldn't see anything either.
Captain Wang said, "Actually, it's normal. According to Chen Yue, this rain is just the cloud in a molten state; it has already fallen to the ground."
Jiang Jiang, the old man with a white beard, also nodded in agreement with Captain Wang.
A sharp gaze swept over Chen Yue, and he turned his head to see a man holding a pen, turning it around while looking at him inquisitively.
The man spoke up: "Doesn't anyone find him suspicious? Why can he see things that others can't? This is ridiculous; in my opinion, he's the Evil Son, trying to confuse us."
Jiang Jiang interjected: "Qin Yu, speak properly; he doesn't match my prophetic results."
"Boss, I completely trust your prophetic results; who would dare question me? But ages can be fabricated, right? Birth dates can be made up!"
"I've already seen..." Jiang Jiang tried to explain but was interrupted by Qin Yu.
Qin Yu sarcastically said, "So you've seen his ID? Whether it's an ID card, household registration book, or birth certificate, they can all be faked."
Chen Yue felt a tightness in his chest.
"Even if there was no fraud, there could be some situation in his family that intentionally made the child a year younger, or maybe it was just a mistake during registration; accidents happen all the time."
Qin Yu threw down his pen and looked at everyone with a dumbfounded expression.
Captain Wang's face darkened; after all, no one likes to be treated like a fool. He said firmly, "You don't need to say anything. Since we have brought him here, we will naturally keep an eye on him. If there are any unusual actions, we will report it immediately, so there's no need for Lord Qin to worry."
Seeing that both sides were about to argue, Old Lu stepped in as a mediator and said, "It's more important to discuss the main issue first."
Then Old Lu pointed to a row of rooms and said to Chen Yue, "You go to the last room in this row; it's a dormitory and quite clean. No one has stayed there for the past couple of days, so you can sleep there."
Chen Yue nodded and obediently walked inside.
The room had a faint smell of smoke and men's cologne; it was clear that a tidy person lived there.
Chen Yue took off his blood-stained outerwear and threw it on the floor. Then he turned on the faucet and washed his face with clean water, rinsing away the dried blood on his skin.
He then grabbed some soap from the shelf and washed his hair, casually wiping his face afterward.
He felt a bit embarrassed using the facial cleanser and shampoo that were laid out since he didn't know the owner of the room.
Chen Yue picked up the outerwear he had thrown on the floor, tossed it into the sink, and scrubbed it with soap. After cleaning it, he hung it up at the head of the bed to dry.
It was a double dormitory bed, but it was clearly occupied by one person. The lower bunk was cluttered with items like clothes, toiletries, and photos, while the upper bunk had a mattress laid out.
Chen Yue lay down on the bed and quickly fell asleep.
"Hehehe, hehehe, come here quickly, you're so slow~" A childish voice echoed, but Chen Yue felt an eerie chill.
Suddenly, a face appeared right in front of Chen Yue.
The face was covered in thick foundation with eyebrows painted in noticeably different sizes and shapes; blue, pink, red, green, and purple eyeshadow piled up on her face. Bright red blush seemed embedded in her cheeks without any hint of naturalness, and her glossy bright red lips were slightly puckered.
It looked like the work of a child who had sneakily used their mother's makeup.
Chen Yue couldn't help but scream loudly: "Ah——!"
