I know these four people: Dean Gao and the three vice presidents of the hospital.
Usually, we grassroots doctors hardly have any contact with these high-level leaders.
Today, I was quite surprised to see them all come together.
"Doctor Cao, are you busy?" Dean Gao asked with a cheerful smile.
"No, not at all!" I quickly shook my head.
"That's good! We old folks came to visit you today!" Dean Gao's smile grew even brighter.
"Dean Gao, please don't say that!" I was flattered; it’s not common for a dean to visit a subordinate. Isn't this embarrassing for me?
"Doctor Cao, don't be nervous. We just came over to chat!" Dean Gao said with a smile.
"Doctor Cao, it's too cramped here. Let's talk in my office!" one of the vice presidents suggested.
"No need, no need! Please sit; I'll go get some extra chairs!" I hurriedly brought in some spare chairs.
It was truly bizarre that all four hospital leaders came to visit me at the same time.
"Dean Gao, is there something you need to discuss with me?" I asked cautiously.
"Doctor Cao, your recent performance at work has been impressive, and your achievements stand out. The hospital has decided to promote you from resident physician to attending physician!" Dean Gao said with a smile.
"Ah?" I exclaimed in surprise.
Although there is only one level difference between a resident physician and an attending physician, the promotion is quite challenging.
First, one must transition from a resident physician to a chief resident before being eligible for promotion to attending physician.
I never expected to skip two levels and become an attending physician directly.
"Doctor Cao, are you satisfied with the hospital's decision?" Dean Gao asked cheerfully.
"Thank you, Dean Gao, and thank you to all the directors. I will continue to work hard!" I quickly expressed my gratitude.
Although I felt puzzled, I certainly wouldn't refuse such a great opportunity.
"I'm glad to hear that!" Dean Gao chuckled. "However, your current office is too small for your new position!"
"I have decided to move you to the small conference room at the back of the obstetrics and gynecology department!"
"That conference room is four times larger than your current office; from now on, that will be your office!"
"Is that really appropriate? Others might gossip about it!" I was taken aback.
"You are a mid-level manager at the hospital. Whoever offends you is offending me, and I will never let it go lightly!" Dean Gao said with great authority.
"Thank you, Dean Gao!" I didn't know what else to say.
"Doctor Cao, congratulations on finding a new romance! On behalf of the hospital, I present you with a gift. I hope you and Dr. Lin have a long and happy life together!" Dean Gao laughed heartily.
He gifted me a handcrafted gold necklace that looked incredibly valuable.
The other three vice presidents also presented their gifts.
One vice president gave me a jade bracelet, said to be Old Pit Glass Type Imperial Green, worth over a million.
Another vice president gifted me a limited edition LV bag, reportedly worth over eight hundred thousand.
The last vice president presented me with a pair of couple Rolex watches, also valued at over a million.
I was stunned. Why were these high-ranking leaders of the hospital being so generous to me?
I wasn't a hero, nor a role model, and I hadn't made any significant contributions to the hospital.
Why were they doing this?
