Liu Qianqian was reluctant to leave her father's grave. Fu Tianming stood quietly beside her in the wind and rain.
Finally, it was time to go, and Jianxiong's straightforward confession was met with her unhesitating rejection.
"Is it for that man?" he pointed at Fu Tianming, who was waiting by the car outside.
"No!"
"You're lying; I can see it. He’s very wealthy, and you like him."
"I would never choose money, never!" Liu Qianqian said loudly, somewhat angrily.
"I know you're not a vain girl, but if you don't choose me, I still wish you well. And if you don't like him, just tell him!" Liu Qianqian looked at him in surprise; this boy who used to be so arrogant was now saying such rational things!
"I—why?"
"What? Oh, as a man, I can tell he cares about you a lot. You told me he’s just an ordinary friend, but I don’t think so. He seems a bit older than you, but he must love you!" This statement shocked Liu Qianqian beyond measure.
"What are you saying?"
"I'm saying he loves you. No way? Can't you see it yourself? Otherwise, who would work so hard for you?" Seeing the confusion in Liu Qianqian's eyes, Jianxiong couldn't help but question her.
Liu Qianqian looked up; the man in front of the car appeared even more dashing and handsome in the sunlight, though his expression couldn't hide his fatigue.
She quickly rushed out and got into the car. The wait was much shorter than Fu Tianming had anticipated.
On the road, Liu Qianqian occasionally glanced at him. He had lost a lot of weight over these past few days; he must be exhausted. He had left his business without a word to accompany her here. Could it really be true what Jianxiong said—that he loved her? But why couldn’t she see any lover-like expressions or actions from him? Was she too dull? Or had she not been "mindful" enough to feel it? Over these days, she had only focused on her own thoughts and realized she hadn’t spoken much to him; aside from a few words when he sought her opinion, they hadn’t talked at all.
"When we were kids, only Jianxiong didn’t bully me; he was my only childhood friend. We were neighbors back then; he often came to play with me, making me happy and comforting me." For some reason, she suddenly thought of explaining this to him.
"Oh!" The doubts in Fu Tianming's heart were resolved. He felt happy but didn’t show it.
"You knew all along?"
"No, I’m listening to you!"
"He just said he would marry me after I graduate!" Liu Qianqian tried to sound casual.
"Oh!" This sentence made Fu Tianming's heart sink after just stabilizing. Liu Qianqian paused for a moment and said, "I told him no!"
"Why?" He turned to look at her but secretly breathed a sigh of relief.
"I told him I have someone I love."
"Oh!" It felt like a knife stabbing into his heart. Fu Tianming couldn't help but bite his lip hard as the image of that young man he saw in the bar flashed through his mind.
She was waiting for him to ask, so she could test his feelings and express her own. But apart from that one response—silence! He didn’t ask a single question. This left her unsure of what to say next.
After several hours of travel, they finally returned. Originally, Fu Tianming wanted to take her back to his home, but she said she wanted to return to school first, so he took her back. The next morning, he called to check on her. She had hoped he would come to see her.
One day while walking down the street, Liu Qianqian unexpectedly ran into Lina. Lina was still dressed flamboyantly but looked noticeably older. Lina was surprised at how charming this girl had become, though her expression remained cold. However, she was very warm in her demeanor, with a tone full of jealousy!
“Oh, no wonder Fu Tianming got drunk over you and hasn’t touched a woman in years; it’s really worth it!”
“What did you say?” Liu Qianqian didn’t understand.
“What? You still don’t know?”
“What? Know what?” She looked at Liu Qianqian with a puzzled expression.
“A smart man like Fu Tianming is actually infatuated with a silly woman like you? Hasn’t he confessed to you yet? Can’t you see it?”
“What are you talking about? Can you please clarify?” Liu Qianqian’s heart raced with excitement and urgency as she pleaded with this woman.
“Out of respect for your deceased father, I’ll tell you: A few days ago, Fu Tianming came to see me and got very drunk. In fact, he hasn’t touched me in years; he only comes by once in a while when he’s feeling down. But he’s always generous and leaves me quite a bit of money each time. Just the other day, he came by and said you had a boyfriend and didn’t need him anymore. It was the first time I saw him cry! That day he drank too much and said a lot of things. You know, he’s not usually one to talk.” She paused and glanced at Liu Qianqian. “He said how much he has loved you all these years, but that his age is too great for you; he can’t and doesn’t deserve it. Then he threw a large sum of money at me and told me to live well—”
She continued talking about many things, but Liu Qianqian could only think of three words: “He loves you.” She didn’t know what kind of joyful mood brought her to the Han family’s home; all she knew was that when she burst into the house, she embraced everyone. Her joy infected them all, and everything in the room seemed to shine with happiness. She personally went into the kitchen to cook, preparing many dishes that Fu Tianming loved.
