"Master Ye is fine, I'll go socialize for a bit," Gao Fen said.
"Alright, Mr. Gao, go ahead," I nodded.
After Gao Fen left, I held my wine glass and began to wander around the hall.
Suddenly, I spotted a familiar figure.
It was a woman wearing a white dress, her hair styled up, and a pearl necklace around her neck.
She was standing in the corner, talking to a man.
The man had his back to me, so I couldn't see his face.
I felt a stir in my heart and quietly walked toward the woman.
She seemed to sense something and suddenly turned her head.
I quickly lowered my gaze to avoid her sight.
The woman looked around in confusion but saw nothing unusual, so she turned back to continue her conversation with the man.
I raised my head and looked in her direction again.
This time I could see clearly; the woman was actually Gongsun Qing.
"How did she end up here?" I thought to myself.
Gongsun Qing is Hu Jingtian's lover, so she should be in Jing Jiang. How could she be in Haining?
Could it be that Hu Jingtian has already fled to Haining?
I quickly pondered this in my mind, my eyes fixed intently on Gongsun Qing's direction.
Soon, Gongsun Qing finished her conversation with the man and hurriedly left the hall.
After a moment of thought, I decided not to follow her out; I wanted to wait and see Feng Qinian's performance.
Feng Qinian finally appeared, and his arrival drew everyone's attention.
I noticed that the guests present had gathered at the front, quietly listening to Feng Qinian speak.
“Dear guests, hello everyone. Today I am honored to host this international ball. To help more impoverished children, I announce that the ball is now officially open,” Feng Qinian announced loudly.
As soon as Feng Qinian finished speaking, the hall erupted in enthusiastic applause.
“Dear guests, in addition to dancing today, we have also prepared a charity sale for disaster relief. I, Feng Qinian, will lead by example. This gold pendant is something I have worn for many years; I am donating it now and hope everyone will respond positively,” Feng Qinian said as he took off the gold pendant and handed it to Butler Qiu beside him.
“Hu Gongzi is truly generous; I, Jiang Ming, cannot fall behind. I will bid fifty taels for Hu Gongzi's gold pendant,” Jiang Ming shouted loudly.
“I'll bid sixty taels,” Nie Han followed up.
“I'll bid seventy taels,” Mr. Chu also joined the bidding.
"I bid eighty taels," Miss Huang Minyi also raised her hand.
"I bid one hundred taels," Miss Qian Wanyi added without hesitation.
"Miss Lu has bid one hundred taels. Is there anyone else willing to raise the bid?" Feng Qinian shouted excitedly.
"I bid one hundred fifty taels," a voice suddenly called out.
Everyone turned to look, and to their surprise, it was Madam Chen who had made the bid.
"Madam Chen has bid one hundred fifty taels. Is there anyone else willing to raise the bid?" Feng Qinian was even more excited.
No one else raised their bid; one hundred fifty taels had already far exceeded the value of the gold pendant itself.
"Congratulations, Madam Chen. This gold pendant is yours," Feng Qinian said happily.
"Young Master Hu, I didn't bring that much money today. I will send the money to your residence another day," Madam Chen said.
"Madam Chen, there's no need to rush. I trust you," Feng Qinian said generously.
"Young Master Hu, I have a pearl necklace here that my father bought from France. I will donate it today to help underprivileged children," Madam Chen said as she took off the pearl necklace from her neck.
