It was another sunny summer day, with temperatures soaring above thirty degrees Celsius, warming the pedestrians on the street. As noon approached, due to the sweltering heat, most people chose to stay indoors in the cool air-conditioned rooms, enjoying the refreshing sensation that came with it unless they had urgent matters to attend to.
Qian Mo was one of those indulging in the comforts of air conditioning, and he was particularly carefree, almost resting his thigh on the girl next to him.
"Hey, Qian Mo, can you please pay attention in class and respect Professor Liu's hard work up there? Did your family send you to business school just so you could sit in the classroom enjoying the air conditioning while peeping at the pretty girls outside in their summer outfits with a telescope?" The girl finally snapped after pushing Qian Mo's restless leg away for the third time, her voice low but filled with frustration.
Putting down the telescope casually, Qian Mo turned to look at the girl beside him. With her long black hair cascading over her shoulders and a face that usually appeared gentle but now looked like an angry tigress baring its teeth at him, she was undeniably beautiful.
A mischievous smile crept onto his face, one that was both familiar and infuriating to her: "What's wrong, Xuan Xiao? Jealous? It's understandable; we've grown up together, and I can see how deep our bond is! By the way, if you wore less clothing, I might not even need this telescope; I could just turn around and look at you!"
"You asshole!" Xuan Xiao seemed unable to tolerate this guy who had always been able to annoy her since childhood.
She stepped on Qian Mo's leg for the fourth time as he stretched it out again.
"Ouch!" he exclaimed involuntarily.
Feeling the eyes of nearly everyone in class turn towards them made Xuan Xiao's scalp tingle; she thought to herself that they were doomed.
Sure enough, a rhythmic cough accompanied by a distinctive two-beat pattern echoed through the room...
Qian Mo was quite curious about how Professor Liu could masterfully control the rhythm of his coughs.
With white hair and a reputation as the most esteemed lecturer in the business school—Professor Liu slowly spoke: "Qian Mo, Xuan Xiao, do you have any dissatisfaction with what I am teaching? Or is it that this supply and demand curve I drew on the board does not satisfy your quest for knowledge?"
"Hehe, not at all, Professor Liu! I was just discussing your lecture with Xuan Xiao. Your understanding of supply and demand is indeed far superior to that of other teachers!" Qian Mo immediately flashed a sunny smile back at the serious-faced Professor Liu.
With his height of about six feet and somewhat handsome looks, it was indeed quite persuasive. Of course, in Xuan Xiao's eyes, that smile was purely infuriating...
"Well, that's good. However, Qian Mo, next time you lie, I hope you'll put away the telescope on your desk. Even at over sixty years old, I can still clearly see your position from up here. I'm sure you don't need a telescope to see me from where you are sitting. If I remember correctly, you scored 57 on your last Western Economics quiz. I haven't had a chance to talk to you about it yet. Since it's such a hot day and I don't want you to suffer from heat exhaustion going home too early, let's do this: after school this afternoon, stay here and rewrite all your mistakes from that quiz while summarizing each one. Also, write a thousand-word reflection as punishment for disrupting classroom discipline and submit it to my office; I'll be waiting for you there. At over sixty years old, before I retire, I hope to teach you into becoming a talent beneficial to society!"
