Tan Chengping is my attending physician and also a doctor at Tongming Hospital in Thoracic Surgery.
I first met him one autumn day.
That day, I was in the yard knitting gloves when my ball of yarn fell into the bushes.
I crouched down and reached out to grab the ball of yarn.
Suddenly, a hand reached over and picked it up.
I looked up and saw a handsome man.
He looked at me and smiled slightly, "Is this yours?"
I nodded, took the ball of yarn from him, and gave him a sweet smile, "Thank you."
From that day on, I would occasionally run into him at the hospital.
Sometimes he would chat with me, and other times he would play string games with me.
He looks great when he smiles, his eyes curved, making people feel warm.
"Doctor Tan," I said to him, "let me tell you a joke."
He looked at me and smiled, "Sure."
"One day, a turtle walked into a bar and shouted at the counter: 'A cup of turtle jelly!'"
"Hahaha," I laughed, "isn't that funny?"
He looked at me with bright eyes and chuckled, "Hehehe."
Seeing the smile on his face warmed my heart.
I hope he is happy; I hope everyone is happy.
"Lanlan," he asked softly, "what is your wish?"
"Wish?"
I blinked.
I thought for a moment and said, "I hope everyone is happy."
"Everyone is happy?"
"Yeah," I nodded, "I hope everyone is happy, and I am happy too."
In the evening, I put on my thick down jacket, gloves, and scarf, and went downstairs with Tan Chengping.
He handed me a shovel and said, "Don't push yourself."
"Okay!"
I nodded vigorously and ran outside excitedly.
It was very cold outside, and the fountain was covered with a thick layer of ice.
I ran around the fountain, feeling very cheerful.
Suddenly, a figure appeared not far from me.
I looked up and was surprised to see Yi Jun.
He looked terrible, with stubble all over his chin.
"Lanlan..."
He called my name hoarsely.
"Yi Jun, what are you doing here?"
I smiled at him.
"Lanlan," he walked up to me, "can we talk?"
I blinked in confusion as I looked at him.
He took my hand, his eyes reddening: "I'm sorry, Lanlan..."
"Why do you have to say sorry?" I asked softly.
"Lanlan..."
He closed his eyes in pain.
I looked at him, feeling a bit sad.
"Yi Jun," I said softly, "Happy New Year. I wish you and your family good health and all the best."
He was taken aback.
"Don't treat me like this, Lanlan, please, don't treat me like this..."
"Then how do you want me to act?"
I looked at him, tears slowly streaming down my face.
"I just wanted to see you gracefully, to know how you've been."
He lowered his eyes, fell silent for a moment, and said softly, "I knew you would come to the class reunion..."
"I know," I nodded gently, "You hate me, and that's understandable."
"I don't hate you!" He interrupted me eagerly. "How could I hate you?"
"That's good." I smiled.
I looked at him as a layer of mist formed in my eyes.
I said softly, "I see you. You are really excellent; you've made it."
He looked at me, his lips trembling slightly.
"I always hoped you would succeed," I said with a smile. "Now you've done it, and I'm really happy."
"Lanlan..."
He cried hard, like a child.
"I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I broke my promise... I said I would make money for you, but those things mean nothing to me now..."
"You have it, that's enough," I said.
"Lanlan..."
He choked up and couldn't say anything.
"Just go," I said.
He shook his head, "I won't force you anymore."
I smiled slightly, "Thank you."
"Lanlan, I know you're angry with me, so no matter what you do to me, I won't be mad."
"Why would I be angry with you?"
I looked at him in confusion.
"Because..."
He paused, "Because I want you back by my side."
"Oh."
I responded lightly.
"I'm too greedy," he said, "I'm too greedy, that's why it turned out this way."
"Lanlan," he said softly, "that night, I didn't do anything."
