I hesitated for a moment, but ultimately decided to follow and see what was going on. I quietly went downstairs, carefully trailing behind Wu Ming. He walked into a small wooden cabin deep in the garden, and I hid behind some nearby bushes, peering through the cabin's window.
I saw Wu Ming open a black bag and take out a pile of items. I squinted to observe closely. Medical instruments stained with blood! Why does Wu Ming have these? He meticulously wiped the instruments, then wrapped them in a cloth and placed them into an iron box. After finishing this, he let out a long sigh, and a strange smile appeared on his face.
I was so frightened that I quickly hid back behind the tree, not daring to make a sound. After a while, I heard the cabin door open, and Wu Ming stepped out. I held my breath, afraid of being discovered. Once he walked far enough away, I finally relaxed.
I returned to my room along the same path, my mind filled with questions. What exactly is Wu Ming doing? Where did those bloodstained medical instruments come from? Blood? The more I thought about it, the more scared I became; I felt that Wu Ming was hiding some terrible secret.
I decided to uncover the truth as soon as possible; otherwise, danger might very well come to me. For the next few days, I kept a close watch on Wu Ming's actions. He often went out late at night and always returned looking exhausted. A few times, I even caught a faint whiff of blood on him. This made me even more certain that Wu Ming was involved in something unspeakable.
Taking advantage of Wu Ming's absence, I sneaked into his study. I searched carefully, hoping to find some clues.
Suddenly, I found a stack of documents in the compartment of a drawer. I carefully took them out, and when I opened them, I was instantly speechless. It was an investigation report on a medical malpractice incident. The report indicated that a year ago, a major medical accident occurred at the Central City Hospital. A young woman unexpectedly died during surgery, and the lead surgeon was… me? I couldn't believe my eyes. Had I once been a surgeon? And had I made such a serious mistake?
Just then, I heard the sound of a door opening downstairs. Oh no, Wu Ming is back! I quickly put the documents back in place and hurriedly left the study. Once back in my room, my heart couldn't settle for a long time. I began to suspect that the truth behind my amnesia might be related to this medical incident. Was Wu Ming hiding something?
As I was lost in thought, Wu Ming knocked and came in. “Mengmeng, the doctor is here to give you a routine check-up,” he said, his tone still cold. I nodded and followed him downstairs.
In the living room stood a stranger, wearing a white coat and gold-rimmed glasses, looking refined and elegant. “Miss Fang, I am Dr. Fu Ting,” he said with a smile as he extended his hand to me. “I’m here to conduct your regular check-up.”
I shook his hand and felt an inexplicable sense of familiarity. “Dr. Fu, have we met before?” I couldn’t help but ask.
Fu Ting paused for a moment before smiling and saying, “Perhaps so; I work at the Central City Hospital, so we might have been colleagues.”
Hearing "Central City Hospital," my heart jolted. Could he know the truth behind that medical incident?
Wu Ming coldly watched us from the side, seemingly dissatisfied with my conversation with Fu Ting. He interrupted, "Dr. Fu, please begin the examination." Fu Ting nodded and started to examine me. His movements were gentle, and his gaze was warm, which made me feel inexplicably at ease.
After the examination, he said to Wu Ming, "Miss Fang's body is recovering well, but her memory will take some time. I suggest exposing her to familiar environments; it may help with memory recovery." Wu Ming frowned slightly and replied, "No need. What she needs most right now is a quiet rest."
Fu Ting seemed to want to say something but glanced at Wu Ming and ultimately just nodded. Before leaving, he quietly slipped me a note: "If you feel any discomfort, feel free to contact me." After sending Fu Ting off, Wu Ming turned and went upstairs without saying a word to me.
I opened the note, which contained a string of phone numbers. I hesitated for a moment but decided to save the number in my phone.
