Si Nian had her little gang take turns following me, and they had to make sure I got home safely before leaving.
My mom didn't dare to do anything to me today, probably because I pointed a pen at her. She was terrified of me; with my dad not home, she didn't even dare to curse in front of me. She certainly wouldn't let my brother come near me.
The classmates who had bullied me before were punished by the school. It was Old Zhang who confronted their parents. Naturally, the parents were unwilling to admit that their children had bullied anyone, insisting that their kids were well-behaved and couldn't possibly do such things. Old Zhang directly showed them the video Si Nian had taken of the incident and played it publicly.
In the video, I was surrounded and bullied by those girls, while Si Nian stood in front of me, frowning at them.
"They all say you bullied them since you had a knife," Old Zhang said calmly.
"The knife belongs to them; it has nothing to do with me," I replied expressionlessly while sitting on the sofa.
The girls panicked immediately, screaming their denials. Old Zhang then pulled out another video that clearly recorded their bullying behavior towards me.
"This matter should have been reported to the police, but considering this is your first offense, Classmate Gao Ming has chosen to resolve it privately."
"You all need to write a ten-thousand-word reflection and apologize to Classmate Gao Ming in front of the entire school during the broadcast."
"Otherwise, I will hand this matter over to the police."
The parents fell silent at once. The girls glared at me fiercely, wishing they could tear me apart. I sat quietly on the sofa, eating the apple Old Zhang had given me.
"Classmate Gao Ming, you have suffered," Old Zhang said as he looked at me and sighed.
There was no teacher in the office. She looked at me with a complex expression.
"Tell me honestly, what’s the deal with that knife?"
I didn’t answer her; I just patted my pocket.
"You!"
Old Zhang glared at me, pointing at my head, gritting his teeth as he said, "You’re just like that wild girl, Si Nian—both of you are stubborn and uncontrollable!"
"I’m your homeroom teacher. If you’re in trouble, you can talk to me. How can you just pull out a knife like that? It’s so dangerous!"
"If someone gets hurt, your life will be ruined!"
Old Zhang scolded me for a full half hour, stopping only when the preparation bell rang.
"There are many choices in life; don’t make a wrong turn because of a moment of impulse."
"I know your family situation isn’t good, but you can be excellent."
"Gao Ming, your grades are outstanding. You have a bright future ahead of you and could get into a key university. Don’t do anything foolish."
I remained silent for a moment before looking up at Old Zhang.
"Teacher, why isn’t Si Nian in school?"
Old Zhang paused for a moment and then chuckled lightly.
"If you want to ask about Si Nian, you should ask Si Nian herself."
"She has her own path to follow."
A week later, at an interschool physics competition, I saw Si Nian again.
She was there to pick up Si Xiang.
This was the first time I had seen Si Xiang since my rebirth.
She was much thinner than Si Nian and wore a friendly smile on her face.
Even though they had the same features, I could easily tell them apart.
I happened to be sitting right in front of her.
When she saw me, she looked slightly taken aback.
"Hello."
She gave me a faint smile, but it seemed a bit stiff.
My hatred for her wasn't strong.
After all, it was my fault.
I had mistaken her for Si Nian from the beginning and had been bothering her ever since.
It was only natural that she didn't like me.
"Mm."
I responded to her faint smile coldly, glancing at her before looking away.
The competition was about to start, and I needed to prepare myself.
Yet deep down, my feelings were hard to settle.
