"Hmm?" Chen Hao asked, puzzled. "What are you trying to do?"
Fang Hui smiled and replied, "Trying to be with you."
Chen Hao was taken aback.
Seeing his surprised expression, Fang Hui couldn't help but laugh. "What's wrong? Are you unwilling?"
"No, no, no," Chen Hao quickly shook his head. "Of course I want to."
"That's good," Fang Hui said, her smile growing even brighter.
As Chen Hao looked at her smiling face, he felt a warmth in his heart. He had waited for this day for a very long time.
...
Back in the dormitory, Fang Hui didn't turn on the lights; she just sat quietly in the darkness.
She thought about many things. Over the years, she had always been chasing after Li Chaowen, always looking up to him. But today, she could finally hold her head high. She could also live very well.
She took out her phone and posted on social media: "Went to the aquarium today and saw many beautiful fish. Suddenly felt that life is really wonderful."
When Li Chaowen saw this post, he was having dinner with a client. He picked up his phone and sent Fang Hui a message: "Did you take Xiao Zhou to the aquarium today?"
Fang Hui didn't reply.
Li Chaowen's expression darkened as he called her directly. The phone rang a few times before it connected.
"Hello?" Fang Hui's voice came through.
Li Chaowen took a deep breath. "Xiao Jing, did you take Xiao Zhou to the aquarium today?"
"Yes," Fang Hui admitted readily.
Li Chaowen tightened his grip on the phone. "Are you two... together now?"
Fang Hui paused for a moment before softly saying, "Not yet."
"..." Li Chaowen sighed in relief. "That's good."
In the following period, Fang Hui and Chen Hao grew closer and closer. They ate together every day, went to the library together, and took evening walks on the playground every day.
On weekends, they would go out to watch movies together. Fang Hui felt that the understanding between her and Chen Hao was becoming stronger.
Meanwhile, it seemed that something was wrong between Li Chaowen and his roommate. They hadn't been in contact for a long time. Previously, Fang Hui could see them messaging each other and making video calls every day; they were inseparable.
But now, there was not even the most basic communication between them. In fact, Fang Hui even heard her roommate's suppressed sobs late at night.
Fang Hui felt that she could no longer stand by and do nothing.
After all, this matter concerned her. She thought for a moment, then took out her phone and called Li Chaowen. The phone rang for a long time before it was answered.
"Hello?" Li Chaowen's voice was hoarse and low, faintly tinged with fatigue.
Fang Hui bit her lip and said softly, "Li Chaowen, can we talk?"
"You finally decided to answer my call," Li Chaowen replied with a hint of relief in his voice.
Fang Hui paused for a moment before speaking, "Li Chaowen, I..."
"Xiao Jing," Li Chaowen interrupted her, "I know what you want to say."
Fang Hui was taken aback. "You know?"
"Yes," Li Chaowen's voice trembled slightly, "I know you don't like me anymore."
Fang Hui pressed her lips together. "I'm sorry."
"You don't have to say sorry," Li Chaowen said bitterly, "Whether you like me or not is your freedom."
"..." Fang Hui fell silent.
Li Chaowen took a deep breath. "I just didn't expect that you would stop liking me so quickly."
Fang Hui forced a smile. "I didn't expect it either."
"Is it... because of Xiao Zhou?" Li Chaowen asked.
Fang Hui thought for a moment. "Maybe."
"..." Li Chaowen fell silent again.
Fang Hui licked her dry lips and said, "Li Chaowen, I'm now with Chen Hao."
"..." Li Chaowen's breath caught in his throat. Despite having guessed it, hearing her say it out loud still shocked him immensely. It felt as if something had pierced his heart sharply, causing him pain.
Fang Hui didn't notice his unusual reaction and continued, "I no longer like you; I only hope you can be happy."
"..." Li Chaowen let out a bitter laugh. "Xiao Jing, if you don't like me anymore, how can I be happy?"
Fang Hui was stunned. She hadn't expected Li Chaowen to say that. But she couldn't find the words to respond. She didn't want to deceive herself any longer. Taking a deep breath, she said, "Li Chaowen, I only see you as a friend now. The person by my side is someone worth cherishing for a lifetime; I hope you can understand me."
Li Chaowen remained silent for a long time before slowly speaking up: "Xiao Jing, are you with Xiao Zhou to get back at me?"
"..." Fang Hui felt frustrated. She had spent ten years liking him, and he actually thought she was trying to get revenge on him. It was an insult to her. Without saying another word, Fang Hui hung up the phone and blocked Li Chaowen again.
In the following days, Fang Hui and Chen Hao continued to interact as they always had. They ate together every day, attended classes together, and on weekends, Chen Hao would take Fang Hui out to watch movies.
That night, Fang Hui and Chen Hao returned from the movie. As they passed by the playground, Fang Hui accidentally tripped over a stone and nearly fell. Fortunately, Chen Hao caught her just in time.
"Are you okay?" Chen Hao squatted down to help her massage her ankle.
Fang Hui shook her head. "I'm fine."
Chen Hao carefully checked her ankle and, confirming that she wasn't injured, let out a sigh of relief. He helped Fang Hui sit down on a nearby bench and then squatted in front of her. "Get on."
Fang Hui was taken aback. "What are you doing?"
"I'm going to carry you back," Chen Hao said with a wink. "Didn't you twist your ankle?"
Fang Hui couldn't help but laugh. "I was joking; I'm fine."
"You were joking?" Chen Hao said, slightly displeased. "But you almost fell just now."
"I just tripped a little," Fang Hui replied with a smile.
Chen Hao still looked worried as he held her ankle and gently massaged it. His hands were broad and warm, applying just the right amount of pressure, which felt incredibly soothing.
As Fang Hui watched the boy squatting in front of her, an odd feeling surged within her. She quickly averted her gaze, not daring to look at him.
The moonlight was soft and gentle. Couples occasionally strolled by the playground, hand in hand, whispering their little secrets to each other.
Fang Hui gazed at them, feeling a wave of tenderness in her heart. She lifted her head to look at the stars above, unable to suppress a smile.
When Chen Hao looked up, he saw her delicate and fair chin. His throat tightened as he slowly stood up.
Fang Hui sensed his movement and lowered her head to look at him. Their eyes met, and sparks flew between them.
