Before long, Shen Yulin answered the phone, "Xingxing? How did you know my home number? Is there something you need?" The urgency in his voice was evident.
"Do you have time? I need to talk to you in person," I said straightforwardly.
"Uh, okay. I'll come find you. Let's meet at the entrance of your neighborhood," Shen Yulin replied after a brief pause.
After hanging up, I went back to my room and casually changed into another outfit before leaving the house. I sat on a swing near the entrance of the neighborhood, quietly waiting for him. Suddenly, a pair of hands covered my eyes from behind, followed by a playful voice saying, "Guess who I am?"
I pushed his hands away and turned to look at him seriously. Shen Yulin's smile froze on his face; he seemed a bit flustered by my expression.
"Xingxing, what's wrong?" he asked with concern.
"Would you lie to me?" I continued to look at him seriously.
"Why are you asking that all of a sudden?" He looked puzzled.
"Answer me, would you lie to me?" Ignoring his confusion, I asked again.
"No, I would never lie to you," he replied firmly.
Hearing his answer made me laugh, but it was a sorrowful laugh. I didn't expect him to respond that way; he had clearly deceived me yet remained so calm as if nothing had happened. I could no longer hold back my tears, which flowed down like rain.
"Who is Lu Pingping?" I questioned him with a voice tinged with sobs.
"Who is Lu Pingping! And who am I to you!"
The wait for his response felt like an eternity.
"Lu Pingping is a classmate from the next class. She is indeed my recognized sister, but my feelings for you are different from those for her!"
"Xingxing, I just don't want to be in a relationship right now, but I do have feelings for you. Lu Pingping is just my sister; I've done nothing with her." Shen Yulin's explanation only complicated my feelings further. He claimed he never intended to hurt me and tried to explain his actions and the seemingly unforgivable betrayal.
"Shen Yulin, do you think I'm so easily summoned and dismissed? What do you take me for?"
Tears streamed down uncontrollably as I couldn't control my emotions; the pain and grievance in my heart surged like a flood. I felt trapped in an inescapable predicament, helpless and desperate.
Through my tears, I began to reflect on my choices and decisions. Perhaps I had been avoiding reality all along, constantly making excuses for myself to cover up the pain and unease within. But now, faced with Shen Yulin's betrayal and deceit, I could no longer escape.
He took hold of my hand, and it felt as if an invisible force was pulling me back, leaving me unable to take a step forward. I looked up into his deep eyes, which sparkled with complex emotions. Under his gaze, my feelings became tangled; on one hand was anger and disappointment towards him, while on the other was an indescribable attachment and reluctance. It felt as if I were caught in a whirlpool of emotions, unable to break free.
"Xingxing, I'm sorry. I never meant to hurt you." His voice was low and sincere, filled with regret and remorse. His words touched me deeply, but the doubts and contradictions in my heart remained; I didn't know how to respond.
He slowly leaned closer to me; I could feel his breath drawing near until our lips almost touched. In that moment, time seemed to freeze; my heart raced and thoughts became chaotic as I didn't know how to react. His lips brushed against mine softly, sending a gentle warmth throughout my body. At that moment, I felt an indescribable mix of emotions—pain and unease intertwined with warmth and attachment.
Perhaps this was a response from deep within me—a longing and expectation for him that I was reluctant to admit but could not deny the feelings stirred by his kiss.
I... can't refuse him.
