"Shen Yulin, I have loved you from the north to the south. Yue Fanxing, I have never possessed you from beginning to end."
This was the last sentence I wrote in my diary on the day I graduated from middle school, and in the years that followed, my memories pressed pause.
In middle school, Yue Fanxing and Shen Yulin entered my heart suddenly and left this world unexpectedly.
Six years later, Zhang Yun and I attended a university in B City, while Cheng Haifeng studied at a vocational school next door. The three of us often ate and traveled together. On the first day of university, Cheng Haifeng confessed his feelings to Zhang Yun, and they eventually became a couple. That night, seeing Zhang Yun's flushed face and Cheng Haifeng's silly expression made me drunk; I thought of the ray of sunshine that had appeared in my life that year—a ray always covered by dark clouds. But I believed that one day, the sun would shine on my life again.
Soon it was graduation season, and Cheng Haifeng proposed. He chose the school playground for the proposal ceremony, dramatically claiming it would be the most sensational proposal event at B City University in recent years.
Thus, Zhang Yun was successfully tricked by her roommates to the stage on the playground. She looked bewildered as she changed into a white mermaid gown, staring at the crowd below with nervousness. Suddenly, a path opened up in the crowd, and at the end stood Cheng Haifeng in a black suit and white shirt, holding a bouquet of red roses. He slowly approached Zhang Yun and stopped less than a meter away from her, kneeling on one knee.
I wore a light pink off-the-shoulder dress and walked up to the stage with the music, handing over Cheng Haifeng's engagement ring. Afterward, I stepped back to stand diagonally behind Zhang Yun, witnessing this couple who had endured hardships finally reach a perfect conclusion to their love.
"Zhang Yun, you are my gentle stream; you are my daily necessities; you are my deep affection; you are my forever."
"Zhang Yun, I love you. Please marry me!"
Cheng Haifeng's loud voice echoed through B City University via the microphone. As soon as he finished speaking, the crowd spontaneously shouted in unison, "Marry him! Marry him! Marry him!"
I couldn't help but join in the shouting. Zhang Yun was already in tears, nodding vigorously as she accepted the flowers and extended her right hand. Cheng Haifeng put down the microphone and gently slid the ring onto Zhang Yun's right ring finger before standing up to hug her tightly and kiss her passionately, causing everyone to burst into laughter. Seeing this scene made me cry out loud as well; however, out of the corner of my eye, I seemed to catch a familiar figure in the crowd. I turned my head to search among them.
That figure walked further away—was it you? My Shen Yulin.
After the noisy ceremony ended, Zhang Yun, Cheng Haifeng, and I changed our clothes. A few roommates suggested we go to "Night Colors" bar for drinks to celebrate for the newlyweds.
Night Colors bar was located on the street adjacent to our school. We entered as a group under the dim lights of the bar; bartenders gracefully mixed colorful cocktails while strangers met amidst loud music and wild dancing. The air was thick with nicotine and alcohol; suppressed revelry surged within people’s bodies like an overwhelming atmosphere of decadence.
I couldn't stand the music any longer—it gave me a headache—so I just sipped my drink while Zhang Yun excitedly grabbed my hand and danced around. Cheng Haifeng mysteriously handed me a cocktail saying, "Try this! I've heard it's really good." I glanced at him and casually took it before downing it in one go.
"Star Sister is amazing! Downing Long Island Iced Tea in one shot!" Cheng Haifeng shouted loudly in my ear.
Upon hearing it was Long Island Iced Tea, my expression darkened. Oh no.
Zhang Yun noticed something was off and came over: "What's wrong?" I pointed at Cheng Haifeng and said, "Your husband gave me Long Island Iced Tea."
Zhang Yun's eyes widened: "The one that gets you drunk fast?"
"Yes," I gritted my teeth in response.
Zhang Yun angrily pinched Cheng Haifeng's ear while scolding him. Whether it was due to the Long Island Iced Tea or beer reacting together chemically, my vision started to blur.
